Backup memoQ projects online to wordfast.fi is a new service introduced by Kilgray in November 2012, together with memoQ 6.2. It lets memoQ users back up their projects online directly from memoQ's Dashboard. Likewise, projects can be restored from to the local computer. One gigabyte of disk space is provided for free. Translate native InDesign via memoQ XLIFF wordfast.fi In a previous video, I talked about a new online service introduced by Kilgray: . Among other things, it lets you convert native InDesign files (INDD) into the industry-standard XLIFF format. The output produced from the INDD file by is a file in the MQXLZ format. MQXLZ is in fact ZIP by another name: by changing the extension from MQXLZ to ZIP, it is possible to access the content of the file. There are two files inside an MQXLZ: 1) document.mqxliff, 2) skeleton.xml. In this video, I show how to translate document.mqxliff in SDL Trados Studio 2011. The extension of the file must be changed from MQXLIFF to XLIFF, otherwise Studio won't recognize it as a valid XLIFF file. Once document.xliff has been translated in Studio, it can be renamed to document.mqxliff, zipped together with skeleton.xml and the extension of the resulting file can be changed from ZIP to MQXLZ. That file can then be uploaded back to , which will produce the translated INDD from it. The same approach should work with any other translation tool that supports XLIFF as input. I'm the Director of Web Strategy at Special Olympics International in Washington, DC Special Olympics has four million athletes in 170 countries around the world. Our website is a place where people can come to get marketing information about Special Olympics as a movement around the world. We have a page for every one of our programs. What we've done with our website is to come up with a core set of common content about Special Olympics. It tells who we are, what we do, how you can get involved. We have slideshows that show the breadth and depth of what Special Olympics does. We translated those into six languages. The core message that we're presenting on all of pages in all of our languages is exactly the same. Our ability to do the exports using the XLIFF facility that's built into Ektron, to easily import it and to manage the content straightforwardly has been a real treasure. We've seen really good results once we started presenting information in languages other than English. Of course you can't get anyone to understand what you're talking about unless it's a language they understand. Using the Ektron API and using localization and using the language features has really made our website an amazing place for people to visit. This is no longer the case and translators can now choose from a variety of tools, including inexpensive ones. This series of five videos covers inexpensive, yet fully-featured CAT tools costing from 0 to 139 euros. This video is about MemSource Cloud Personal ( an "hybrid" tool with a cloud-based component and a local, multiplatform (Windows, Mac, Linux) editor. Quick look at Heartsome Translation Studio 8 wordfast.fi Heartsome is a software company headquartered in Hong Kong and with offices in Singapore, China and Japan. They make a translation tool called Heartsome Translation Studio, which is lesser known, but has been around for many years already. Heartsome Translation Studio Version 8 was released in late 2012. Heartsome is Java-based and as such multiplatform (Windows, Mac, Linux), like OmegaT, Swordfish, Wordfast Pro and CafeTran. This video shows how to translate a short Word document from English into French, using Heartsome Translation Studio 8.1 Ultimate Edition in Windows 8. The document and the workflow is the same as in the series of five videos on inexpensive CAT tools (OmegaT, MemSource Cloud, Wordfast Anywhere, CafeTran and MetaTexis) published in December 2012.
