  • Weathering a Boxcar part 1 My first attempt at a model train. This is the answer to "REVERSE SEALION" by Svinehunden aka Kasper. These are his trains and when they're done I'll send them back to him, he gets the trains all done up and I get the knowledge I gained doing them. Every project makes you better and this is no different, I learned so much about oils working on this project. All I used is visible in the video. Oil paints, thinners and varnish. Nothing special at all.

  • 12.03.09 My new weathering Technique called WEATHER DIPPIN' by Big Al Mayo Well I think this weathering techniques will work for even the most ***ed up weatherers out there. It is quick, easy and the final results are believeable. Dont be a little sissy, dawg!! give it a try and then speak on it or Hate on it. But its like hitting it with a fat chick, don't knock it until you try it. LOL seriously, the end results are great and will speed up the COMMON weathered rolling stock on EVERYONES layout. I guess it is kinda like the Instant weathering stuff they sell but its custom made and I know they do NOT recommend to DIP the *** like a Hotdog into cornmeal making a corndog! LOL well its off the hook!!
  • Shed Weathering Here's another "How To" video. This video takes you through weathering a train maintainance shed. It's not difficult and it's also very inexpensive. Here are the materials you'll need and some instructions: Materials - Krylon or other brand clear matte finish, two brushes (medium and fine), white acrylic paint, water, hair dryer and weathering powder or chalk. Step 1 - Fade the shed using a slightly opaque (watery) mixture of white acrylic paint and water. Apply with a medium brush. Dry with hair dryer between coats. Apply 2 coats, more if desired. Step 2 - Using the black (soot) weathering powder or chalk, apply the soot with around vent areas and on vents until desired look is acheived. Spray with clear matte spray and dry with hair dryer to accelerate dry time. Step 3 - Using a dark and or light brown weathering powder, apply additional weathering to building, in streaks as shown in the video. Apply clear matte spray to accelerate fry time. Step 4 - Apply and additional weathering, for instance along the base of the building or where egnine exhaust may be present (use soot aka black powder). Step 5 - Apply a final coat of clear matte finish spray and dry with hair dryer. Notes: Use the clear matte spray in a well ventillated area. I apply my powder dry for soot, because its more realistic. You could also use paint, but I find the powder just looks better.

  • Weathering olive drab - part 2: oils in layers The second in the series detailing my techniques when weathering olive drab vehicles. In this video I use a series of layers of oil paints, divided with acrylic varnish, to build up the effect of rain marks and dust, and blend it all together with a quick airbrush dust coat at the end. I have tried to fit as much in to a 5 min video as possible, so hopefully you can see how the varnish and oil layers work together using the photographs that I take at each stage, but it's not so long you die of boredom! thanks for watching, please rate if you enjoyed !
  • Weathering olive drab - part 1: simple wash The first in a series of videos about how I weather olive drab coloured vehicles. This step deals with the first basic wash, which picks out details and adds depth to recessed areas. This is a pretty basic technique so more advanced guys out there probably won't take anything from this, but perhaps it will help the beginners out there ! Please comment and/or rate this video if it was a help to you! Cheers Scalemodelmedic

  • More simple weathering techniques This is the "next step" to the basic techniques of the last video... instead of just adding some general weathering I am doing it from reference photos, to achieve specific effects. The end results are nice, but the techniques are simple enough for beginners to start doing straight away ! • Weathering A Cinzano Wagon Modelmates is a translucent, water soluble weathering spray dye that makes things look dirty, old and weathered. It dries fast and is quick and easy to use and is ozone friendly. It is not a paint. Modelmates comes in 8 colours:- Soot black: A really matt black, almost like coal residue. Slate Grey: Black/blue slate grey colour. Light grey: Very light grey. Mud Brown: Muddy, dirty colour. Like spraying a layer of mud. Oil brown: Dirty Oil green/brown. Similar to Mud brown, but slightly oily green. Sand brown: Light brown, slightly golden sandy brown colour. Rusty Red: Rich rusty red/brown colour. Moss green: Dirty mossy/khaki green colour. Modlmates is translucent and does not cover or colour like a paint. Spray it on and you still see the surface underneath. The different colours just make surfaces look dirty in different ways. Mud Brown makes them look muddy dirty while Rust Red makes them rusty dirty. Its most visible on light coloured surfaces and least visible on darker ones, but you still see the dirty effect even on very dark surfaces. It can be used on many types of models and landscapes, such as plastic and cardboard model wagons, carriages, buildings, platforms and roads to make them look dirty and old. Soot Black makes ballast and tracks look as black as coal residue and Oil Brown and Rusty Red makes them look just dirty. Moss green gives the colour of moss to buildings and ballast. Spray on grass, trees, shrubs to create darker and lighter patches. Use it ...
