They live in a variety of habitats where they feed as scavengers on decaying vegetation and soil fungi. The spinal cord functions primarily in the transmission of neural signals between the brain and the rest of the body but also contains neural circuits that can independently control numerous reflexes and central pattern generators. The spinal cord has three major functions: A. Serve as a conduit for motor information, which travels down the spinal cord. B. Serve as a conduit for sensory information, which travels up the spinal cord. C. Serve as a center for coordinating certain reflexes. The spinal cord is the main pathway for information connecting the brain and peripheral nervous system. The length of the spinal cord is much shorter than the length of the bony spinal column. The human spinal cord extends from the medulla oblongata and continues through the conus medullaris near the first or second lumbar vertebra, terminating in a fibrous extension known as the filum terminale. - Apistogramma macmasteri - wild caught female with 2-3 week old fry This is the original Apistogramma macmasteri 'rotrucken/red-shoulder' (A120-121). I was very pleased to be able to get a pair of wild caught specimens, imported from Colombia, and they spawned after 2 months. Both male and female bear a red border to the dorsal fin, and the relatively prominent black abdominal stripes when not in breeding colours. The male also has a characteristic black first 2-3 dorsal spines. There are very few original viejita's and macmasteri's left in the hobby, so I definitely plan to raise these F1 fry... ;) Here is the female in breeding dress (abdominal stripes disappear when breeding, but note also the prominent black border to the *** fin), defending her large batch of fry through the tank divider... Ventrally, she bears a black patch between the gills and pelvic fins, and a thin black line running from the pelvics to the ***). The male is captured in another video on my channel.
