When the thrombus breaks free of the valve leaflet, it is then called an embolus, and travels toward the heart and lungs. Bleeding Control: Venous Bleeding Venous bleeding is more severe than capillary bleeding, but is not under pressure like arterial bleeding. It is characterized by oozing or running of dark colored blood. You should first apply direct pressure with a bandage for 1-2 minutes. Do not lift the bandage to check for clotting. Instead, lift your hand to see if blood is seeping through the bandage. You may have the patient hold the dressing in place while you use roller gauze, beginning at the distal end, to secure the bandage. If bleeding does not continue through the bandage, take the patient to a medical center for wound irrigation and possible stitches.

Optic Disc - Spontaneous Venous Pulsations Spontaneous Venous Pulsations(SVP) are an important clinical sign caused by a fluctuating intravascular pressure gradient between the intraocular retinal veins and the retrolaminar portion of the CRV. The pulsations are observed as a subtle narrowing and expansion of one or more retinal veins on the optic disc and are present in 90% of normal persons. The examination technique requires adequate visualisation and magnification. The presence of SVPs allows the examiner to conclude that the patient does not have optic disc swelling and that the patient's CSF pressure at that time is less than 190 mm H2O. Finally, this clinical sign needs to be interpreted in the light of the history and other clinical findings.
