  • The Tao of Jeet Kune Do The Tao of Jeet Kune Do Film Presented by Alessandro Sorbello The Tao of Jeet Kune Do is a book expressing Bruce Lee's martial arts philosophy and viewpoints. It was published posthumously (after Bruce Lee's death in 1973). The book was not written by him; instead it was assembled by various people based upon a core set of writings and disparate notes that were left behind after Lee's death. The project for this book began in 1970 when Bruce Lee suffered a back injury during one of his practice sessions. During this time he could not practice martial arts. He was ordered by his doctors to lie flat on his back for 6 months in order to recover from his injury. This was a very tiring and dispiriting time for Lee who was always very physically active. It was during his convalescence that he decided to compile a treatise on the system or approach to martial arts that he was developing; which he called Jeet Kune Do. The bulk of these writings would become the "core set of writings". Many of these writings were done during a single session which provided natural continuity. Lee had also kept various notes throughout the development of his combat philosophy and these would become the disparate notes used in the book. Many of these notes were "sudden inspirations" which were incomplete and lacked any kind of a construct. The combination of the "Core set of writings" and the "disparate notes" would be known as the text "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do". In 1971 ...

  • When You Say Nothing At All Buck Norris sings "When You Say Nothing At All" by Keith Whitley and later by Alliaon Krause. Keith Whitley's legacy loomed large over the country music landscape of the '90s. A talented new country singer and songwriter, Whitley was just beginning to emerge as a superstar at the time of his death in 1989. Throughout the next decade, his reputation as both a performer and writer continued to grow, as other artists had hits with his songs and posthumous recordings climbed into the Top Ten. Born and raised in Kentucky, Whitley began singing as a child, winning a talent contest at the age of four. When he was eight years old, he learned how to play guitar and within a year he was singing on a Charleston, WV-based radio station. Whitley formed his first band at the age of 13, playing nothing but straight bluegrass. A few years later, he formed the Lonesome Mountain Boys with his high school friend, Ricky Skaggs. The Lonesome Mountain Boys primarily played Stanley Brothers songs and soon became a popular attraction. In the late '60s, Ralph Stanley was looking to re-form his band after the death of his brother and partner, Carter. He was so impressed with Whitley and Skaggs, he asked them to join his Clinch Mountain Boys group. The duo accepted the offer immediately and began appearing with the band in 1970. Whitley stayed with the Clinch Mountain Boys for two years, recording a total of seven albums, including 1971's Crying From the Cross, which was named the Bluegrass Album ...

  • PARNELLITES, MARK 11 : Seamus Breathnach : James JOYCE IV Come, Gather Round Me , Parnellites... A Ballad To Be Sung With Much Drink Born in Braintree, Es***, in January 1846, Katharine Wood was well connected. She first met Charles Stewart Parnell in 1880. She had been married to Captain William O'Shea , but to a avoid a life of unhappiness they were separated or in the process of such a separation. Parnell loved Katharine O' Shea deeply. The couple had three children. Although accounts differ as to how Captain O'Shea felt about his wife's intrigue , he vacillated between challinging Parnell to a duel in 1881 to remaining publicly silent about it until he filed for divorce in 1889. In any event the love- affair brought down Parnell, who had agitated for Irish freedom so successfully, that he became known as the 'uncrowned king of Ireland'. One of his devoted supporters was John Stanislaus Joyce, father of James Joyce. Honourable though the affair was, it was used by the moralists of the day on both sides of the Irish sea to retard the Irish Home Rule movement and, of course, destroy the secular Irish leader. it also had a negative efffect on Stanislaus Joyce. It made him virtually 'berufsverboten' or unemployable. Stanislaus' loyalty to Parnell meant challenging the Irish Catholic bishops and their endless supply of unforgiving liege zealots. James Joyce, who watched the effects of the secular failure of Parnell against both Victoran morality and Roman Catholic conservatism, never forgot how easy it was for the religious in ...

• Come Gather Round Me, Parnellites...: Seamus Breathnach : James JOYCE IV Come, Gather Round Me , Parnellites...

  • 5 Minutes Bible Study - Meet Mr. Peter By Dr. Harold Sala MEET MR. PETER Peter, an apostle of Jesus ChristGrace and peace be yours in abundance. 1 Peter 1:1-2 Meet Mr. Simon Peter. Oh, some folks put a halo over him and call him St. Peter, and some history books use his Aramaic name and call him Cephas, but Jesus gave him the name Peter, meaning Rock. If Jesus thought of him as being hard or as tough as a rock, its pretty obvious to me that he didnt wear black, have lace on his handkerchief, sit around and sing hymns all day, and drink vinegar to keep from smiling. Peter was a pretty tough character in his younger days. Born to Jonah, a fisherman who lived in northern Galilee on the shores of the sea, Peter joined with a couple of buddies, James and John, and ran a fishing business which gave them a pretty fair living. I have yet to meet a commercial fisherman who put perfume behind his ear or frosted his hair. The wind and weather bronzed and etched his face, and the long hours of labor battling the seas and the nets hardened his muscles and strengthened his back. As I think of Mr. Peter, I think of five qualities or attributes. First, he was a man of action. He never vacillated. He didnt play the grandstand. He may not have always been right, but you knew where he stood. He did what he thought was right. It was his quality that made him a leader. Second, Peter was a man of commitment and loyalty. Once Jesus entered his life, he quickly walked away from his nets and vowed allegiance to the carpenter-Messiah ...
