Tennyson Mariana Margaretta Scott, who reads this poem, was a lovely actress with a fine voice. She was born in 1912 and died in the spring of this year aged 93. COMUS - The Herald - With Slideshow This is from a very rare Acid Folk LP by COMUS called 'First Utterance', which was released in 1971. The music is largely acoustic art rock that blends elements of Eastern percussion, early folk and animal-like vocals. The music evokes many feelings, but the most dominant are fear, confusion, despair, with occasional passages of tranquil beauty such as can be found in "The Herald". I decided to put some photos with it that I think capture the mood; nothing fancy but i quite like the result. I had to edit out the first segment of the song due to You Tube's 10 minute rule. It lasts for about 12 minutes in its entirety. Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth is a big fan and many of Opeth's tracks have been inspired by Comus (eg. The Baying Of The Hounds takes its title from a Comus lyric). Comus recently re-formed for Melloboat and played on the same bill as Opeth; here is some amusing footage of a transfixed Mikael Åkerfeldt as he watches a guitar rendition of The Herald in the boat's can***; www.youtube.com

GLENN GORING PLAYS SEGMENTS FROM THE COMUS SONG "THE HERALD" This film is from an Italian Restaurant near Paddington Station in central London. The film was shot the 23rd of September, 2007. Glenn shows Mikael the guitar he used when COMUS recorded the album FIRST UTTERANCE. The audience includes three members of Comus + Bobbie Watson's step daughter, Stefan and Mikael, and the restaurant waiter who requests the song Hotel California but Glenn Goring plays some fragments of the COMUS song THE HERALD instead. It might be difficult to transfer a real emotion via a cheap camera but this moment was magic!!!! The 8-9th of March 2008 will Glenn perform the entire THE HERALD onboard the MELLOBOAT together with the complete COMUS band. Don't miss that event! The countdown has started!!!
