CHRIST - THE UNIQUE WORD OF SACRED SCRIPTURE 101 In order to reveal himself to men, in the condescension of his goodness God speaks to them in human words: "Indeed the words of God, expressed in the words of men, are in every way like human language, just as the Word of the eternal Father, when he took on himself the flesh of human weakness, became like men."63 102 Through all the words of Sacred Scripture, God speaks only one single Word, his one Utterance in whom he expresses himself completely:64 You recall that one and the same Word of God extends throughout Scripture, that it is one and the same Utterance that resounds in the mouths of all the sacred writers, since he who was in the beginning God with God has no need of separate syllables; for he is not subject to time.65 103 For this reason, the Church has always venerated the Scriptures as she venerates the Lord's Body. She never ceases to present to the faithful the bread of life, taken from the one table of God's Word and Christ's Body.66 104 In Sacred Scripture, the Church constantly finds her nourishment and her strength, for she welcomes it not as a human word, "but as what it really is, the word of God".67 "In the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children, and talks with them."68 II. • Tennyson Mariana Margaretta Scott, who reads this poem, was a lovely actress with a fine voice. She was born in 1912 and died in the spring of this year aged 93. She reads the poem with great dramatic skill building up to the final despairing utterance 'Oh God that I were dead!' Mariana is, of course, sister to the Lady of Shallott and I can't help thinking that both owe a great deal to Tennyson's love for his friend Arthur Hallam (after whom he named one of his sons) and Tennyson's sense of absolute loss when Hallam died at a young age. This emotion found its most profound utterance of course in 'In Memoriam' which was much admired by the grieving 'widow of Windsor' Queen Victoria.
  • HAVE YOU RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST? (Part 2) . . Baptism of the Holy Ghost The baptism of the Holy Ghost is the birth of the Spirit (John 3:5). This spiritual baptism is necessary to put someone into the kingdom of God (God's church, the bride of Christ) and is evi-denced by speaking in other tongues (other languages) as the Spirit of God give utterance. It was prophesied by Joel (Joel 2:28-29) and Isaiah (Isaiah 28:11), foretold by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:11), purchased by the blood of Jesus, and promised by Him to His disciples (John 14:26; 15:26). The Holy Ghost was first poured out on the Day of Pentecost upon the Jews (Acts 2:1-4), then upon the Samaritans (Acts 8:17), and later upon the Gentiles (Acts 10:44-46;19:6). "The promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call" (Acts 2:39). . . . Tongues Speaking in tongues means speaking miraculously in a language unknown to the speaker, as the Spirit gives utterance. Tongues can be classified in two ways, according to function: (1) speaking in other tongues as the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost and (2) the gift of tongues as mentioned in I Corinthians. 1. Speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance is the manifestation God has given as the definite, indisputable, supernatural witness or sign of the baptism of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4; 10:46; 19:6). It was prophesied by the prophet Isaiah as the rest and the refreshing (Isaiah 28:11-12), foretold by Jesus as ...

  • COMUS - The Herald - With Slideshow This is from a very rare Acid Folk LP by COMUS called 'First Utterance', which was released in 1971. The music is largely acoustic art rock that blends elements of Eastern percussion, early folk and animal-like vocals. The music evokes many feelings, but the most dominant are fear, confusion, despair, with occasional passages of tranquil beauty such as can be found in "The Herald". I decided to put some photos with it that I think capture the mood; nothing fancy but i quite like the result. I had to edit out the first segment of the song due to You Tube's 10 minute rule. It lasts for about 12 minutes in its entirety. Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth is a big fan and many of Opeth's tracks have been inspired by Comus (eg. The Baying Of The Hounds takes its title from a Comus lyric). Comus recently re-formed for Melloboat and played on the same bill as Opeth; here is some amusing footage of a transfixed Mikael Åkerfeldt as he watches a guitar rendition of The Herald in the boat's can***;

  • Gayatri Mantra (27 Repetitions) Revered by both Buddhists and Hindus worldwide. It is considered to be a supreme vehicle for gaining spiritual enlightenment. The Entire Mantra says, "I invoke the Earth Plane, The Astral Plane, The Celestial Plane, The Plane of Spiritual Balance, The Plane of Human Spiritual Knowledge, The Plane of Spiritual Austerites, and The Plane of Ultimate Truth. Oh, great Spiritual Light which is the brilliance of all Divinity, we meditate upon You. Please illumine our minds." Origin Rishis selected the words of the Gayatri Mantra and arranged them so that they not only convey meaning but also create specific power of righteous wisdom through their utterance. The ideal times for chanting the mantra are three times a day - at dawn, mid-day, and at dusk. These times are known as the three sandhyas - morning, mid-day and evening. The maximum benefit of chanting the mantra is said to be obtained by chanting it 108 times. However, one may chant it for 3, 9, or 18 times when pressed for time. The syllables of the mantra are said to positively affect all the chakras or energy centres in the human body - hence, proper pronunciation and enunciation are very important. In general, Brahmarishi Vishwamitra is credited as the mantra-dhrishta(Mantra was revealed to him) of the Gayatri Mantra. Gayatri Mantra is devoted to God Savitr. Savitr refers to Sun. Sun here does not imply the sun of our solar system. Rather it implies a Sun of all suns. Sun that is the source of ...

  • Srimad Bhagavad Gita Chapter 17 A short description of the seven***th chapter is available from the second para of the second page of: www.swami- In this chapter, the Lord continues to explain the gunas. 17.15 yat, that; vakyam, speech; anudvegakaram, which causes no pain, which is not hurtful to creatures which is satyam, true; priya-hitam, agreeable and beneficial with regard to facts seen or unseen-. 'Speech' is qualified by characteristics such as being not hurtful, etc. The ca (and) is used for grouping together the qualifying characteristics. When a sentence is used in order to make another understand, if it happens to be devoid of one or two or three among the qualities-truthfulness, agreeability, beneficialness, and non-hurtfulness-, then it is not austerity of speech. As in the case of a truthful utterance there would occur a want of austerity of speech if it be lacking in one or two or three of the others, so also in the case of an agreeable utterance there would be no austerity of speech were it to be without one or two or three of the others; and similarly, there would be no austerity of speech even in a beneficial utterance which is without one or two or three of the others. What, again, is that austerity (of speech)? That utterance which is true as also not hurtful, and is agreeable and beneficial, is the highest austerity of speech: As for example, the utterance, 'Be calm, my boy. Practice study and yoga. Thereby you will gain the highest.' svadhyaya-abhyasanam, the ...

  • The Gift of Tongues and The Baptism of The Holy Spirit. A Distinction_1 Mark 16:17 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; This is the foundation for speaking with new tongues and it is part of the last standing order that Jesus the anointed one and His anointing left before he departed into heaven. Now let us dissect this verse a little bit. Jesus Christ said that these signs will follow those that believe, not follow Christians, not the apostles, not Jews, not Gentiles, only those that believe. Believe what you may ask? Those that believe what He siad that "In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; So if you do not believe this scripture then, it will not follow you so you should not have to worry about it. At Pentacost: The first manifestation of the Gift of Tongues occurred on the day of the Pentecost when they all were in one accord and received the gift of tongues. Acts 2:1-12 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised ...
