  • Parisal in Nagamarai - Relevant Ancient Rural Technologies of Tamils This Parisal was able take more than 10 motorcycles and 10 people almost roughly over 2.5 tons. It is just made of Bamboo wicker work, used PP (polypropylene ) plastic bags ( used fertiliser/ cement) waterproofed with asphalt or bitumen (used in road making) - the whole construction costs between 100 - 200 USD depending on size. Hence everything is locally available and requires only wickerwork skills it is very easy to make it, maintain, repair it. This is very suitable technology for dams, rivers etc for poor people to use. It also replaces large amounts of wood hence contributes to Climate Change mitigation. This can be great for Africa and Elsewhere where there are small lakes and dams locally primarily for fishing and transportation. The Government agencies have stupidly tried to replace this with expensive, unmaintainable fiber. plastics and Metal which have miserably failed. Some times Ieaves me wonder if all the sound claims we make about education is true.
  • FIXING ROAD - a spiritual METAPHOR you can only be saved by trusting Jesus 100%. You cannot rely on your flesh. That denies faith. The works salvation philosophy is nothing but non-faith dressed as christianity. Faith means 100% trust in the sacrifice of the lamb - that it HAPPENED. To think you can do it alone by the flesh is to not trust Jesus nor in God's promise nor dominion nor truth nor fulfillment of all prophecy since beginning of time! Vainly fixing the road: It's a losing battle! Striving to maintain the unmaintainable! ACCEPT that you are wretched - and that you NEED God! You NEED Jesus to save you. amen. Good works cannot save your soul! it is DENIAL!
  • American Gun Culture Industry booms as concerned owners hoard arms in US 30 March, 2009, 13:55 Fear of new regulations has driven gun owners to stockpile weapons and ammunition at such a high rate that manufacturures are having trouble meeting demand. There is growing concern that the Obama administration could reimpose a ban on some semiautomatic weapons, which is causing an unmaintainable level of demand for ammunition and other components for weapons. Currently, 25 percent of adult Americans own a gun, according to official statistics. The unofficial number could be much higher.
  • Google I/O 2009 - ThoughtWorks on App Engine for Java.. Google I/O 2009 - ThoughtWorks on App Engine for Java: An Enterprise Cumulonimbus? Martin Fowler, Rebecca Parsons Enterprise software pundits are now gazing metaphorically skyward. There's all this talk of clouds, but what kind of clouds are coming, and will they be friendly? We begin by describing some applications we've developed for App Engine, including implementation of other languages, such as JRuby, on top of the App Engine for Java implementation. These implementations demonstrate the breadth of capability provided by App Engine. We then examine some of the strengths and current weaknesses that we encountered. We also describe more about the implications for testing that arise when developing on App Engine. We will also present an initial framework for characterizing these differnet clouds and examine how these characteristics will impact the adoption path for enterprises and the kinds of applications these enterprises will move to the cloud. Of particular interest here is the central role of Big Table in App Engine. Broad adoption of this of this platform could lead to lots of lightening striking at the dominant role relational data base systems currently enjoy. • Making developing chemistry based systems easier - Tim Dudgeon (ChemAxon) The latest standards for enterprise systems based on the Java platform can provide new approaches bringing type-safety, better support for refactoring, more reuse, extensibility and testability to the development process. However, these approaches have not often been used in the development of chemistry based systems, such as those using Marvin and JChem, which typically still rely on approaches such as JDBC and JSP. We have investigated some of these more promising approaches for building Marvin and JChem based web applications. We will illustrate the use of: -- Hibernate and JPA persistence frameworks that make writing database persistence code simpler and less error prone, and show how these can be used with JChem Cartridge and JChem Base, -- modern component based web frameworks such as Wicket and Grails that promote reuse at the UI layer and allow web based applications or web services to be created with little effort, -- alternative languages on the JVM such as Groovy as an to aid productivity and in creating domain specific languages
  • PST7140A Retrofit Breaker Test Set This is an old Multi-Amp CB7140 breaker test set. The 71 means it was designed in 1971 and the 40 means it is capable of about 40000 amperes short pulse. Probably only about 30 kA into a breaker with only about 8 VAC. I originally retrofitted this test set in 1994 for a company in NJ, and I used a Samsung laptop computer and some proprietary PC boards to create a breaker testing system that ran under MSDOS and could save results into a database. It had several drawbacks and it was difficult to use and essentially unmaintainable because of the obsolete computer. It was sold or transferred several times before coming back for a more modern retrofit with the MAC-20.
  • C++ Stylistics Google Tech Talks March, 5 2008 ABSTRACT Both by accident and by design, C++ supports a number of different styles and approaches to programming. Its evolution from C gives it obvious support for a procedural systems programming style based on C idioms, but past, present and future language support opens up a wealth of other approaches and idioms, including object-oriented programming, generic programming and some elements of functional programming. This diversity is both a strength and a weakness. It can lead to code that is crisp and well matched to its problem. But it can also lead to code that is at best considered an exercise in groundless post-modernism or, less favorably, an unmaintainable and incoherent mess. This talk examines some of the styles and approaches, including their key strengths and accidental complexities, as well as consequences of and techniques for combining them. Speaker: Kevlin Henney Kevlin Henney is an independent consultant and trainer based in Bristol, UK. Kevlin's work focuses on software architecture, programming languages and development process. He has been a columnist for various magazines and online publications, including , The Register, C/C++ Users Journal, C++ Report, JavaSpektrum and Java Report. With Frank Buschmann and Doug Schmidt, he is coauthor of two volumes in the Pattern-Oriented Software Architecture series: A Pattern Language for Distributed Computing and On Patterns and Pattern Languages.
  • Journey to getting Ripped - Week 1 www.rip*** So it's been 1 week so far, and after Sunday's weigh in. I'm pretty pleased. One pound weight loss, which is not my focus. But still nice to see. Since I know I will end up lighter than what I am even with body composition changes. But an inch off my stomach is a great sign of progress. So here is what I focused on for the first Week. 1. My main focus was on getting back to a proper eatting window to get an effective fast. Using the Rip***logy Fasting protocol, which calls for a minimum of 19hrs of fasting, at least 2 days per week. I am not new to fasting so I shoot for 7 days. 2. I did one day of low calorie this week to get back into calorie cycling. Next week I will be doing two. I cycle my calories ever 3-4 days. Starting with an approximate 500 calorie drop. The way I handle this is by eating less calorie dense food. No almonds, etc. 3. I did one day of lifting. It only takes me 30 minutes to do, but at the end of it I feel I could throw up. It goes like this. (Squarts, Clean & Jerk, Straight Leg Deadlift w/ Shrug at the top, Bend of Bar Rows, Straight Bar Curls, Tricep Extensions, Bench Press). One set each, 10-12 Reps, 30 second rest, focus on time under tension. 4. Started drinking more water, still feel I am not getting enough. 5. Lightly jogged 3 mornings. I don't do this for cardio, I just like to clear my mind with a jog. I don't go fast. So here is a recap. Diet: Focused on the timing, not the food. One day of low calories. Exercise ...
  • Anonymous - Invalid, paradoxical, dangerous and deceitful capitalistic financial system manifests Real economic process dependence on private banking system and financial markets is synthetic fraudulent economic subordination, falsifying real economic values and real economic relations, on the behalf of economic parasitism or subordination. Private banking system and financial markets are seriously and destructively affecting the real economic process and society, by implicitly and essentially parasitic character, and chaotic, deceitful and unreal behavior. Capitalistic recession is not related to real economy, real economical process, and real economical space. Capitalistic recession is always wide and surface effect, and increasingly more and more global. Capitalistic recession always breaks down real economic relations by means of capitalistic financial system. Defects and deceptions in capitalistic financial system always propagate into real economic process. That means, capitalistic recession is distinctly related to capitalistic financial system, not to the real economic process. The real economic process is distributed synergetic process, based on real economical values and real economical relations, and by means of that it is strongly resistant and adaptive. Only ways to destabilize the real economic process in short time globally are : by invalid, deceitful or chaotic control of globalized financial medium, by collapse of globalized financial system, or by global natural catastrophe. Capitalistic recession is characteristic effect of capitalistic financial ...
  • Anonymous - Financial intimidation, globalization and enslavement Financial intimidation leads to enslavement. Intimidation is criminal act, psychologically leading to permanent growth of intimidation, and the victim enslavement. It is clear, that enslavement via financial intimidation is today reality, generated and perpetrated by private banking system, financial markets, corporations and imperial policies. It is clear, that the level of enslavement is growing, and the racket of enslavement reached the countries of the West, clearly manifesting in political and economical layout deterioration and degeneration. That means, the financial intimidation and enslavement mechanisms entered the state of unprecedented global societal abuse and evil, the global crime against humanity, leading to political power subordination and decadence. Financial intimidation is fundamentally based on financial dependence. The most primitive form of financial intimidation is usury, the debt deception mechanism, the permanent financial insufficiency used for permanent debt generation, permanent financial intimidation and fraudulent profit. Financial dependence is inevitable consequence of specialized economic process using the financial medium as shared economic value providing access to real economic production of society and real economic resources of society. Financial dependence can be misused to construct the permanent financial insufficiency, permanent debt. It is clear, that to prevent financial intimidation, financial medium and financial system must ...
  • Debate: Designers and Scripting systems Designers see scripting languages as powerful tools for rapidly implementing game ideas and directly realizing their gameplay goals without having to rely on the programming pipeline.
