Zephyr Shows Unconcern for Small Rodents Life. Death. Technology. Lawns. Cats. This little movie packs a lot into 30 seconds. The movie is a bit violent, but the violence is part of the plot. That makes it OK. The neighbor's discarded hot water heater in the background lends a certain moodiness to the scene, evoking slightly disturbing thoughts of the failure of technology and the immense amounts of waste that our society generates. Set in apposition to the primal nature of the battle between the feline and the rodent, this is really powerful stuff. Note also that the orange cat is a passive bystander, and is clearly deeply conflicted. I will not even mention (because it is too obvious) the intense symbolism of the Stop sign in the background, as if the little rodent were crying out for the pain and stress to stop. But is the rodent calling for Life or Death?
