  • AT&T Archives: The Step-By-Step Switch See more from the AT&T Archives at The purpose of this film was to show employees, back in 1951, how calls were automatically switched through an SxS office. This film gives a general appreciation of the importance, complexity, and cost of switching equipment in an average 1950s telephone office. The path of a call is illustrated as it runs through a demonstration unit. "Careful adherance to Bell System maintenance practices" is stressed. While this is only part I, Part II eventually showed the equipment in various types of use, and Part II showed the internal circuit operations. Switchers today are digital and look drastically different. These systems at this time were still not even transistorized, so this film shows a system that's not only years back in time, but many generations back in terms of technology. • EMP Protection - Electronics. Infinite Dangers, Inc. EMP (Electromagentic Pulse). This video describes what EMP is and the best and most inexpensive way to protect electronic devices. After food, water, medicine, guns, etc. a high quality transistorized radio that picks up short wave is the next most important item you MUST have. It must pick up short wave to receive other continents in the event the EMP bomb was so massive that it destroyed all electronics in, say, North America. EMP can come from nucleasr bombs but EMP can also be made from easy to buy, easy to assemble parts that are NOT classified (they should be). For a few milion dollars an EMP bomb can be built that would destroy all electronics in a major city. Terrorists could put North America back to the 14th century permanently for less than $100 million dollars. Protection of your radio and other electronics such as walkie talkies is cheap and easy. Not mentioned is a large aluminum trash can with a lid that seals tightly. If the radio turned on and volume up on AM cannot receive stations inside the protective device or cover then it also will not receive a destructive EMP static discharge. READ the book that is currently free at for much more information. EMP Protection WILL be the most important chapter if terrorists strike using EMP to destroy our electronics. Our world would STOP and not start again. EMP is the MOST destructive means of harming us I can think of.

  • IBM 1401 System 50th Anniversary [Recorded: November 10, 2009] Announced in 1959, the IBM 1401 was widely adopted by business and institutions around the world. By the mid 1960s, half of all computers were 1401s or members of its family. The 1401 was one of IBMs earliest transistorized computers and introduced thousands of businesses to stored-program computing while its tape and disk systems freed them from the decades-long practice of storing data on punched cards. Known as a small-scale computer, a 1401 system weighed between 2-to-4 tons, dissipated 12000 watts, and was built out of over half a million parts. In today's dollars, a typical system rented for $ 45000 a month or could be purchased for $ 3.4 million. The 1401's popularity was due in part to its legendary peripherals, including its chain-based 1403 printer whose fast speed and outstanding print quality made it into an industry workhorse. This lecture at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA, hosted by Jon Iwata, IBM Senior VP, Marketing & Communications, brought together a distinguished panel of key players in the creation of the IBM 1401 system: - Francis Underwood, IBM 1401 Chief Architect, 1957 - 1960 - Charles Branscomb, IBM 1401 Program Manager, 1957 - 1960 - Sheldon Jacobs, IBM 1401 Marketing Lead, 1958 - 1960 In addition to celebrating the anniversary of the 1401, the Computer History Museum also honors a dedicated team of volunteers, lead by Robert Garner who have successfully restored to full operation two 48-year-old ...
  • 1959 Philco Safari Model H-2010 The 1959 Philco Safari Model H-2010 was the first transistorized, battery operated portable television. From www.tvhistory.tv "It all begins with this Philco set. Its dimensions are actually quite large: 8" wide x 15" tall x 5-1/2" deep, but the race to build smaller and smaller sets was on! RCA and GE had displayed laboratory models of transistorized TV sets in 1956 and 1958, respectively, but Philco beat everyone in the world to the punch by introducing the Safari model in late 1959. They even beat Sony to market, who were planning a release of their set shortly. The unique design of this set (to conserve battery power) was the ingenious method of using a small 2" vertically mounted picture tube, which reflected the television image at a 45 degree angle off a concave mirror! At the optimum viewing distance of precisely 4 and 1/2 feet, you had what appeared to be the same size image given by a 14 inch picture tube! There was one serious drawback; This system required a VERY narrow viewing angle. If you were off by a few degrees, the picture would be cut-off easily. The consequence? A stiff neck after a very short viewing time! However, it was transistorized -- battery powered -- and portable -- all amazing features in 1959."
  • The Guts of my Seeburg DS160 Jukebox, part 1 Now you get to see what makes my 1962 Seeburg DS160HR jukebox work - and sound - the way it does. Fully refurbished and customized. It has an auto-speed unit so it plays both 45rpm and 33-1/3rpm 7" records, holds 80 records for 160 selections (more with extended-play discs), original rebuilt tube amplifier (transistorized pre-amp circuit), rebuilt Tormat tube-type selection receiver; rebuilt solid state (all transistorized) auto-speed unit; original Pickering dual-styli magnetic stereo cartridge. Original speakers: two 12" woofers thru a "Seeburg Stereo Network" (low-pass filter); two 4x6" ear speakers each thru a high-pass filter. Two extra 4" tweeters and one subwoofer have been added (concealed inside the cabinet). If you are playing this back thru a sub and tweeters, you will get astounding bass and treble response. New reproduction upper & lower glass, custom 3-D mirrors around center crown and also flanking speaker grille. New stainless steel mirror-finish kickplate; repainted cabinet sides with custom pinstriping and decal work. The jukebox is wired with a 'free-play' credit unit which keeps the credit lamp lit, but the latch bar solenoid is only energized once the first button is pushed and releases when the second one is pushed. Ropelighting installed underneath the cabinet creates a blue glow beneath the juke. This piece of history looks as good as, or better than the day she rolled off the assembly line and has provided me with untold hours of enjoyment. People ...

Model T-100 tuner/pre-amplifier is what's visible in the console and a separate power amp chassis is located inside and concealed in the cabinet. The technicians at the shop tell me she's pumping out 20 watts RMS per channel; all the electronics have been rebuilt. AM/FM/FM stereo with AFC, scratch and rumble filter settings, mono button for monaural recordings (reduces groove noise). VU meters for audio balance and also for tuning strength in both AM/FM. Buttons for selecting headphones/internal/external speakers or both at once. This splits the output to 4 X 10 watts when both int/ext speakers used. Garrard 'lab series' type A record changer completely overhauled, new Shure cartridge and elliptical stylus for incredible frequency response and tracking at 3.0 grams. Each speaker chamber is air-tight and acoustic suspension with: 12 inch polypropylene woofer w/rubber surround; 5 inch midrange; 4 inch tweeter and 1-1/2 inch supertweeter each with dedicated crossover. • Zenith Allegro "Menorca" Console Stereo After a co-worker of mine cleaned out her grandparents' home, this Zenith console stereo needed to find a new home. Nobody was interested in it, and I'd have hated to see it go to the trash, so it followed me home. Dating from sometime in 1974, it was made in the US (Missouri or Chicago) by Zenith Radio Corporation. There is an AM/FM Stereo radio, stereo eight-track player, a record changer and two stereo speakers built in to the unit. It is solid-state (transistorized) with a ten watt per channel power output rating. An additional pair of speakers may be connected and operated in addition to the internal speakers or by themselves. Also supported is a line level input and output for a tape deck, though it appears that using this would disconnect the internal eight-track player. During this demonstration I was only using the internal antennas provided for AM and FM reception. The turntable and eight-track player both need work, while the radio and amplifier still work perfectly. Sets like this are not terribly uncommon, but there sure won't be any more of them. The different model numbers reflect different cabinet styles according to a 1974 newspaper ad that I found. Model F902, known as the Arbora, was available in walnut. Zenith referred to the Arbora as having a "contemporary" style. Model F903 (identified as the "Thomaston") was offered in so-called "early American" styling with an American Maple color. The unit shown in this video is the "Menorca", which was described ...

  • 1968 Super Stock Hemi Dart from Hurst First Drive The first drive of Troy's 1968 Super Stock Hemi Dart recreation. This car is a recreation of how racers originally recieved the cars from Hurst Corporation. Skinny tires, primer paint, transistorized ignition, heater delete, outside mirror delete, rear seat delete, no seam sealer, no sound deadener, no undercoating, and many many other tricks! The rolling burnout in this video was truely not done on purpose. Just bliping the throttle with those skinny bia plys will that! It's a correct looking 472 Hemi with the new TTI Hemi A-body headers. No need to have expensive custom header made for your car anymore! The rest of the exhaust is straight back to glasspacks as delivered by Hurst. This was THE car TTI used to prototype and create the jigs for A-body Hemi Headers. This car has a 1968 idler, pitman, centerlink, with manual brakes. Motor is positioned as called out in the TTI instructions. Troy did extensive research and work to complete this project that took under 2 years to complete. • 132142 / 1969 Camaro Z/28 When you start talking about early Z/28s, the conversation inevitably turns to those rare upgraded models that were truly race-ready. More specifically, while these were all ostensibly built to homologate the Z/28 for Trans Am racing, the street cars were not necessarily turn-key race cars. To turn them into race cars, GM had to offer the race components if they wanted to use them on the track (although ever-smart GM always referred to them as "heavy duty" components). Whatever they were called, they were talking about the killer dual quad Cross-ram induction system and the powerful JL8 4-wheel disc brakes that were available on the street cars. If you can actually find a real JL8 Z/28 with a real Cross-ram intake, expect to pay considerably more than the asking price on this car Or, if you don't feel like searching the universe for the next 20 years, you can have this gorgeous Hugger Orange Z/28 that has a date-code correct, OEM Cross-ram and a full JL8 brake package, both of which were added during the top-flight restoration that took place only recently. To answer your first question, yes, it is a real Z/28. It carries a date-code correct 302 and its original 4-speed, the Cross-ram system is a GM/Winters OEM piece, not a modern reproduction, and the JL8 system includes all the correct upgraded front discs, fasteners, hardware and lines. As an extra little bonus, it also includes a rare factory transistorized ignition system that's fully functional. In short, it is as ...

This piece of history looks as good as, or better than the day she rolled off the assembly line and has provided me with ...
  • EARLY 60's DUMONT CONSOLE STEREO, ***AGERS PARTY, PT 2, Dr.Klimper's Musikalische Fusswarmer OK baby boomers, this is what our parents rocked out to on Saturday nights! This really is fun music, you have to appreciate it. Odeon label monaural extended play EP pressing, played on my Dumont console stereo circa early 1960s, solid wood cabinet w/walnut veneers, a fine piece of furniture made in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and kept in immaculate condition. 100% solid state (all transistorized), probably one of the first of its kind as it still uses speaker output transformers. This piece of equipment kicks ...
