  • Seonjeongneug: The Royal Tombs Seonjeongneug is home to the royal tombs of the 9th and 11th kings (and their wives) of the Joseon Dynasty. After paying your admission you find yourself immediately at a red gate. This served as not only a marker for holy ground, but to ward off evil spirits. At the top of the gate is the Taegeuk (the Korean Yin/Yang symbol: Red is the air, Blue is the earth, Yellow is humanity). The spikes on the gate announce the Kings authority over the land. From the gate is a bi-level path. The upper path is for the heavenly spirit of the departed King and the lower path is for the living. The path leads up to a temple where rituals are still performed to this day to honor the departed kings. Its here that the body and spirit of the kings were separated, only to be rejoined when they meet once more at the tomb. While you can fully explore Seolleung, one must admire Jeongneung from afar. King Seongjong (1457-1494) was the 9th king of the Joseon Dynasty. He was well loved and left legacies that still are a part of Korean life today. His tomb is the Seolleung. Its a large structure situated on a hill. There are three levels representing military, civil, and royal responsibilities. Stone statues stand guard on the first two tiers, along with a giant lantern symbolizing education and enlightenment. The final (royal) tier is marked by a stone tablet which covers the tombs entrance. To either side of the tablet are a pair of tall pillars. These pillars have holes in them, which the Kings ...

  • Searching for Cleopatra's tomb April 21, 2009, Copyright permission from CCTV Egyptian archaeologists seek Cleopatra´s tomb WATCH VIDEOSource: 04-21-2009 09:12 High on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, buried deep under the crumbling limestone of a temple to the goddess Isis, Egyptian archaeologists believe the body of Queen Cleopatra may lie. Her tomb has never been found but archaeologists are discovering more evidence suggesting Cleopatra's priests carried her body to the temple to place her beside her lover, Marc Antony. Researchers using radar technology found what may be three chambers as deep as 20 meters under the rock. Historians believe, based on the Roman writer Plutarch, that Antony and Cleopatra were buried together. Archaeologists this week discovered a cemetery near the temple containing gilded mummies, indicating the burial of royals around the temple. Egypts Supreme Council of Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawass said, "We excavated outside the temple, and we found near the lighthouse a big, large cemetery. Twenty tombs. Looks to be important people. Cut in the rock. Inside them we found ten mummies. Two of them were beautifully gilded, and I believe that those people who are buried beside this temple, they could be buried beside an important person - a King or a Queen. Because no one would be buried beside a temple without reason, as we saw in Pharaonic period, they'll always be buried beside the pyramids." The discovery of 22 bronze coins inscribed with Cleopatra's name, an ...

  • The Goldens WONDERS of the Bulgarian Archaeology - Panagyurishte Gold Treasure & MORE The archaeological research of the Thracian culture started in the 20th century and especially after World War II, mainly on the territory of Southern Bulgaria. As a result of intensive excavation works in the 1960s and 1970s a number of Thracian tombs and sanctuaries were discovered. More significant among them are: the Tomb of Sveshtari, the Tomb of Kazanlak, Tatul, Seuthopolis, Perperikon, the Tomb of Aleksandrovo, Sarmizegetusa, etc. Also a large number of elaborately crafted gold and silver treasure sets from the 5th and 4th century BC were unearthed. In the following decades those were exposed in museums around the world, thus gaining popularity and becoming an emblem of the ancient Thracian culture. Since the year 2000, Bulgarian archaeologist Georgi Kitov has made discoveries in Central Bulgaria which were summarized as "The Valley of the Thracian Kings". On 19 August 2005, some Bulgarian archaeologists announced they had found the first Thracian capital, which was situated near Karlovo in Bulgaria. A lot of polished ceramic artifacts (pieces of roof-tiles and Greek-like vases) were discovered revealing the fortune of the city. The Bulgarian Ministry of Culture declared its support to the excavations. In Dabene, Bulgaria, a cache of more than 15000 gold Thracian artifacts were discovered, including thousands of rings. In August 2006 a sensational archaeological find was made near the village of Dubovo. A Thracian dagger made of an alloy of gold and platinum, sharp ...
  • Royal Tombs of Ur The late 1920s excavation of royal tombs at Ur, in southern Iraq, provided one of the most renowned discoveries in the history of archaeology. Extravagant jewelry of gold, lapis-lazuli, and carnelian, cups of gold and silver, and extraordinary objects of art and culture were among the Mesopotamian treasures uncovered by renowned British archaeologist C. Leonard Woolley in a joint expedition by the British Museum and Penn Museum. The remarkable tombs opened the world's eyes to the full glory of ancient Sumerian culture (2600-2500 BC) at its zenith.

  • PC Longplay [097] Tomb Raider Anniversary (part 1 of 3) Played by Ravenlord A mighty syndicate gives Lara Croft the task to find the Scion, a mystical artifact which is said to be the key to the secret of Atlantis. Since her father already searched for this item, Lara does not hesitate and begins her journey through ancient tombs and forgotten worlds. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is essentially a remake of the original Tomb Raider. So you fight and riddle your way through familiar sites and meet good old enemies. But also you feel at home, the game features everything that Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend has. So besides the better graphics, Lara also has many new moves, such as swinging on ropes, bullet time when an animal rushes towards her, and the addition of a grappling hook in her inventory (which resembles the one from the original game). Jumping is also a lot easier, as the heroine automatically grabs the ledges without requiring pixel-precise timing. There are also completely new moves, where Lara balances and jumps on small sticks. The cut-scenes are identical, but rendered in real-time using the new engine. Some are also action-based, like in the previous games, requiring quick reflexes to keep the action going. The environments and riddles have been changed to fit the new gameplay and the voice recording was also redone. After I finished the game I had to redo ''The Lost Valley'' level because the quality was bad and that's the reason why I don't have same number of medipacks and ammo after ...

Dr Zivie explains that the difficulty in accessing the tomb meant that it was never raided in modern times, and only in ancient times when the thieves were not seeking antiquities.

It makes KV62 the only tomb in the Valley of the Kings to be discovered fully intact.
  • Tombs - Egypt December 1995 Egyptians have long had a fascination with burying their dead. In Pharonic times even animals were given sacred tombs. We visit the Cairo suburb of Imam ash-Shafii which has been a cemetery for centuries. But these days if you knock on a tomb, chances are you'll get an answer. The living have built their homes among the tombs of the dead. Ahmed Atiyah's great-great-great-grandfather's tomb is right in the middle of his front room. "It's better than living with people who talk a lot", insists his wife. Ahmed is the self-appointed guardian of the forgotten tombs of Egypt's 19th century Royal Family. They belong to a period of Islamic history the present government of Egypt seems, perhaps not surprisingly, happy to forget. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

  • Tomb Raider: Legend (Box Puzzle) Hi guys, I am back once again with a BRAND NEW VIDEO for you guys to watch, and hopefully you enjoy it, it's up to you at the end of the day. Ok, it's not Spyro related, it's not Canis related, it's not even Sonic related either. What else, erm, it's not Ratchet and Clank related, it's not Jak and Daxter related, also it's not Doctor Who or Cat related either! So, what have I decided to make as a video this time around? I have chosen to make a Tomb Raider video, because I am a fan of the Tomb Raider series. I'll give you a brief run down of how I became a fan of Tomb Raider. Firstly I have seen one of the Tomb Raider films, the first one, way back in August 2001, that was pretty awesome. I have played on some of the Playstation One games, sadly I've never completed any of them. Anyway, in 2003, I purchased Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, and I completed it! It was the first Tomb Raider game I had ever finished, was really chuffed. In 2006, I got Tomb Raider: Legend, and completed that too, and that was my second Tomb Raider game I had finished, so I was happy with that. I also own the Tomb Raider: Legend guidebook and another Tomb Raider book too, which has walkthroughs of the past games, so that is a good read, so that explains why I'm a fan. Ok, in this video I am playing on Tomb Raider: Legend, and have started a new game, although I'm not planning to do the entire game, but I'm hoping to record certain sections of the game. Ok, I'm in the first level of the game ...
  • THE MING NECROPOLIS The Ming Dynasty Tombs China A dignified pavilion rises behind the main entrance of the magnificent Ming Necropolis, which is located 50km northwest of Beijing. Seven kilometres long, the holy avenue, 'Spirit Way', of the Ming Necropolis is lined with numerous beautiful stone figures. Dingling, the mausoleum of the 13th Ming Emperor, Wanli, is one of three restored grave sites where elegant stairs, decorated with beautiful stone masonry, lead up to the terrestrial section of the mausoleum. According to ancient Chinese tradition, an earthly section had to be built for the soul of the dead, in which the soul would be comforted. For this reason, the magnificent buildings and great halls were designed in the style of the emperor's palace. The expenditure for the royal funerals was without limit and it took almost six years and around 30000 workers to build the grave complex for Emperor Wanli. Changling is the largest mausoleum of the Necropolis and was built for Emperor Yongle, who reigned during the beginning of the 15th century. But this extremely well restored grave site has a darker side to it. Together with the Emperor, it is believed that 30 living concubines were buried in this grave.

Mr Carter found King Tut's tomb near the entrance to the entrance to the tomb of Ramses VI and was the first person to enter it and to find the sacrophagus of Tutankhamun. The tomb had been robbed at least twice in antiquity, but was otherwise intact. These days Tutankhamun is the most exhibited of the Pharaohs. Reuters S30100604
