This is the Place Heritage Park Over view Whether youre watching a craft, petting a farm animal, listening to a fiddler, eating penny candy from ZCMI or enjoying the fresh foothills air, a visit to the Park is an experience for all of the senses. Immerse yourself in the pioneer adventure! One of the few real tinsmiths in the US works his craft in Heritage Village. The blacksmith makes items that are used elsewhere in the village while explaining his trade to visitors. A similar working environment is found at the furniture-makers shop and the saddlery. See wool being carded and spun into yarn to be colored with dyes made from native plants. We have puppet shows, rug making, crafts, and pioneer classes at the school. Visit the newspaper print shop, see how butter is churned and taste it on fresh bread, find old-fashioned penny candy at ZCMI, see nearly-lost arts (such as basket making, rug making, needlework or hair weaving) demonstrated, or go on a handcart mini-trek. Young visitors can help do chores by watering the real garden, beating dirt from rugs hung on the fence rail or scrubbing clothes on a washboard in a large metal tub. They can see and touch domestic animals typical of the era: cows, sheep, goats, chickens, horses and huge oxen even ride a pony! This Is The Place Heritage Park So Much More Than A Monument! 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Admission: $8/adults - $6/children (3-11) and seniors (55+) for more information visit This Is The Place Monument This Is The Place Monument marks the spot ...

Seamus Heaney - Mossbawn Sunlight Seamus Heaney reads his poem Mossbawn Sunlight Mossbawn Sunlight by Seamus Heaney (1939-) There was a sunlit absence. The helmeted pump in the yard heated its iron, water honeyed in the slung bucket and the sun stood like a griddle cooling against the wall of each long afternoon. So, her hands scuffled over the bakeboard, the reddening stove sent its plaque of heat against her where she stood in a floury apron by the window. Now she dusts the board with a goose's wing, now sits, broad-lapped, with whitened nails and measling shins: here is a space again, the scone rising to the tick of two clocks. And here is love like a tinsmith's scoop sunk past its gleam in the meal-bin.

Brooke Parkhurst, vocals and recorder Avril Smith, guitar Rowan Corbett, percussion Ireland's Green Shore - (Traditional/Tim O'Brien) From [the album] The Crossing (PD, arr Tim O'Brien (Howdy Skies Music/Forerunner Music, Inc., ASCAP)) Ireland's Green Shore One evening for pleasure I rambled On the banks of some cold purling stream I set down on a bed of primroses And I gently fell into a dream I dreamt that I saw a fair female Her equal I never saw before And I sighed for the laws of our country As we stray there on Ireland's green shore Her cheeks were like two bloomin' roses Her teeth were like ivory so white Her eyes shone like two sparkling diamonds Or the stars on some cold frosty night She was dressed in the richist attire And green was the mantle she wore All bound down with the hemlocks and the roses As we stray there on Ireland's green shore Transgression of joy I awoken I found this was only a dream That pretty fair female had fled me I longed to be slumbering again May the heavens above be her guardian Though I know I'll never see her anymore May the goldliest sunbeam shine upon her As she lies sleeping on Ireland's green shore One evening for pleasure I rambled On the banks of some cold purling stream I set down on a bed of primroses And I gently fell into a dream
