SMITH X3 No Groove Stripe Eraser removing thermoplastic on Concrete You can remove highway, airfield and parking lines or markings without grooves, undulations on concrete or asphalt using the SMITH LNX8 or X3 Eraser. FACT: WHY NO GROOVES and UNDULATIONS? Erasers like the SMITH LNX8 and X3 leave a smooth surface finish by "erasing-out" the markings using a circular rolling, bevel-edged surface pattern. This removal rotation will NOT create sharp-edge grooving or "ghost-lines" unlike the marks left from "flail cutter drum-style" scarifiers (aka grinders). Some may call an Eraser or Scarifier a "Grinder". This term is incorrect. Although they both mechanically abrade with or without water, only the Eraser removes using the same circular pattern as a hydroblaster. Adding a dust collector to the Eraser's collection port eliminates airborne particles. A broom vac truck in tow leaves the surface clean and ready for immediate re-striping. Removing thermoplastic materials when the surface is extremely hot (ierubberized asphalt or slurry seal) may require additional removal controls to keep surface termperature low enough so thermoplastic is not re-applied. These include shallow removal passes and the use of water to keep the surface temperature cool. Adding water will also eliminate any airborne dust.
