  • The Life of Saint Catherine of Siena here, I am gonna show you the life of saint Catherine. I hope you Enjoy it. Life : Saint Catherine of Siena, OP (March 25, 1347 April 29, 1380) was a Tertiary of the Dominican Order, and a Scholastic philosopher and theologian. She also worked to bring the Papacy back to Rome from its displacement in France, and to establish peace among the Italian city-states. She was born Catherine Benin in Siena, Italy, to Giacomo di Benincasa, a clothdyer, and Lapa Piagenti, possibly daughter of a local poet. Born in 1347, she was the 24th out of 25 children. She took the habit of the Dominican Tertiaries after vigorous protests from the Tertiaries themselves. In about 1366, St Catherine experienced what she described in her letters as a "Mystical Marriage" with Jesus. Her biographer Raymond of Capua also records that she was told by Christ to leave her withdrawn life and enter the public life of the world. Catherine dedicated much of her life to helping the ill and the poor, where she took care of them in hospitals or homes. Her early pious activities in Siena attracted a group of followers, both women and men, while they also brought her to the attention of the Dominican Order, which called her to Florence in 1374 to interrogate her for possible heresy. After this visit, in which she was deemed sufficiently orthodox, she began travelling with her followers throughout northern and central Italy advocating reform of the clergy and the launch of a new crusade and advising people that ...

  • Akbar Padamsee - Slde Lecture - Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi Akbar Padamsee was born in Mumbai in 1928. He received his art education from Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai at the time when the Progressive Artists' Group announced itself on the Indian art scene in 1947. Padamsee went to live and work in France in 1951. In 1952, he was awarded a prize by Andre Breton, known as the pope of surrealism, on behalf of the Journale d'art. His very first solo show was held in Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1954. Though widely spoken of as a modernist, Padamsee continues to resist easy categorization. Throughout his illustrious career spanning six decades, he has remained fiercely experimental and individualistic. Renouncing the rich colour palette of his early years, he chose to paint in grey between the years 1959-1960 stating, "Grey is without prejudice; it does not discriminate between object and space". Akbar Padamsee's artistic oeuvre is a formal exploration of a few chosen genres- prophets, heads, couples, still-life, grey works, metascapes, mirror - images and tertiaries , across a multitude of media -- oil painting, plastic emulsion, water colour, sculpture, printmaking, computer graphics, and photography. In 1962, Padamsee was awarded a gold medal from the Lalit Kala Akademi, and in 1965 a fellowship from the JD Rockefeller Foundation. Subsequently he was invited to be an artist-in-residence by Stout State University, Wisconsin. In 1967 a solo exhibition of his paintings was held at the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, Canada ...

It is native to forests in mountainous areas of western China but feral populations have been established in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. The adult male is 90-105 cm in length, its tail accounting for two-thirds of the total length. It is unmistakable with its golden crest and rump and bright red body. -- Jeg synes den gamle framstår for brutal i dag, sier Lundby til NRK, og foreslår en ny logo der øksene er byttet ut med hjerter. www.nrk.no The Order of Preachers (Latin: Ordo Praedicatorum), after the 15th century more commonly known as the Dominican Order or Dominicans, is a Catholic religious order founded by Saint Dominic and approved by Pope Honorius III (1216--27) on 22 December 1216 in France. Membership in the Order includes friars,[1] nuns, congregations of active sisters, and lay persons affiliated with the order (formerly known as tertiaries, now Lay or Secular Dominicans). In England and other countries the Dominicans are referred to as Black Friars because of the black cappa or cloak they wear over their white habits.[2] Dominicans were Blackfriars, as opposed to Whitefriars (for example, the Carmelites) or Greyfriars (for example, Franciscans). They are also distinct from the Augustinian Friars (the Austin friars) who wear a similar habit. In France, the Dominicans are known as Jacobins, because their first ...

  • CS & IT Symposium 2010: Programming Contests and Competitions Computer Science Teachers Association Computer Science and Information Technology Symposium July 13, 2010 Programming Contests and Competitions Presented by Karen Lang & Margot Phillipps The popularity of participation in math and science contests shows a huge desire by students and parents to get a sense of "their place." Computer Science suffers in the eyes of students, their parents, and educators in general. It is not seen as a high status subject and the battles advocating for it are well known to the CSIT audience. We present the case for the motivational value of programming contests. We advocate for increasing the awareness of competitions as one way of increasing the awareness of the subject and its status. We also present some of the many options available for entering competitions and how to run a local contest. For more information, please see
  • Interior Design Colour Tutorial - Part Four - QC Design School Interior Design and Decorating professional shows how to create primary and secondary colors, adding combinations of colours to come up with the desired effect. Learn colour consulting and Interior Decorating with QC Design Schools distance learning program. Primary's and Secondary's done. We do not have to do all the tertiaries but we'll give an example of one. Say for example a red violet, try to get equal amounts. Little bit of red, little violet, and you have your red-violet. I tried to get as close as I could to equal amounts of the red and the violet. We'll get into now tints and shades. Take a little blue and add a bit of whites. The more white you add the cooler the colour becomes. The more white you add the lighter it becomes. Basically it is a version of your saturated hue of blue then you just adds white. So you haven't actually changed the colour, you change just the intensity of it, or changed the value of it I should say. Now we're going to get into doing a shade. So in making a shade you either add brown or black. We'll go this the red and add black. That's perhaps the most interesting example of the efficacy of using the paints. That is when we say you have to start playing with colors, you really have to look at a colour and figure out what is in it. So now we're going to try to change the intensity of a colour, by taking one colour and adding its compliment. Take orange and add the blue. That's the idea to take opposites, to mute a colour. This exercise ...
