  • Taboo ***Warning: this video contains images, practices and beliefs that some may find disturbing and offensive*** Once again being inspired by yet another show, this time however it is National Geographic Channel's "Taboo" and I decided to tackle of few of them myself. This video is for education purposes only. To show certain beliefs and practices that are performed on a daily basis somewhere on this planet. Some can be a bit rough to watch and may very well disgust some viewers. That was NOT the idea behind the of making this video. My subscribers know me as someone who makes videos for music (remixes, extended versions, etc.), but I wanted to try and do something that some may feel that I have probably crossed the line with....."Taboo's". I will more than likely lose many subscribers due to this and that is their choice. Plus this video will also be more than likely flagged as inappropriate. So be it. For over a year now I have wanted to do this subject and this is the 3rd version I have done. The first was too graphic...even for me. I actually had nightmares about some of the content in the first version so I scrapped the idea and moved on. Well, I gradually came back around again to trying this a second time and yet again, it STILL was too graphic. Again...I dropped it then moved on. Being a stubborn person I decided (for the last time) to give it one more shot with different content and some MAJOR editing, and more editing and more editing and finally just decided to ...
  • The Disturbing, Disgusting, and the Taboo Part 1 This is a new video series where i examine some of my films that leave you a bit warped. I pick 3 titles and try to put one in each of the categories, of course they overlap but then again they all are pretty disturbing. Today's Video includes The Disturbing Cannibal Holocaust - The infamous and best of the Italian Cannibal films, if you haven't heard of this one, you are watching the wrong video my friends :). A personal favorite, filled with many taboos and disgusting moments, the over all effect of the film is disturbing and even depressing. The Disgusting Fetus - the underground gore shocker by the director of Bone Sickness, delivers more then just the goods in this shocking bloodbath including insects in your genitals and dead baby fetus who surely will speak no evil. It is taboo but this one is by far more disgusting. The Taboo Nekromantik - The most famous corpse ***ing film, of course its disturbing, or course its disgusting, but man is this movie taboo for the time, although could be argued that its more disturbing or disgusting i wouldn't necessarily disagree, but to me the Taboo subject of Necrophilia takes the cake for the Taboo in this trio of ghastly greats. i had these videos planned to do and was holding out for awhile, then 81oakridg messaged me and said it be a badass idea to do something like this, and i thought you know, i was gonna do it eventually, no time like the present. Thanks 81 for getting me on track lol

  • Are Taboos Adaptive? Evidence from the Island of Fiji Taboo, the polynesian word for a forbidden practice, has become part of the English lexicon. Are taboos ignorant superstitions, do they contain adaptive wisdom, or are they a mixture of both? Joseph Henrich and his colleagues are addressing this question for food taboos and other cultural practices on the island of Fiji. Their work is an intoxicating blend of anthropology, psychology, and biology from a unified evolutionary perspective. What they have discovered for one kind of taboo on a single island says much about our general capacity to learn and transmit behavioral practices, which are often--but not always--adaptive. Joseph Henrich is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Culture, Cognition, and Coevolution, Departments of Psychology and Economics, at the University of British Columbia. • "Science and the taboo of psi" with Dean Radin Google Tech Talks January, 16 2008 ABSTRACT Do telepathy, clairvoyance and other "psi" abilities exist? The majority of the general population believes that they do, and yet fewer than one percent of mainstream academic institutions have any faculty known for their interest in these frequently reported experiences. Why is a topic of enduring and widespread interest met with such resounding silence in academia? The answer is not due to a lack of scientific evidence, or even to a lack of scientific interest, but rather involves a taboo. I will discuss the nature of this taboo, some of the empirical evidence and critical responses, and speculate on the implications. Speaker: Dean Radin Dean Radin is a researcher and author in the field of parapsychology. He is Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and four-time former President of the Parapsychological Association. He holds an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a masters degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. • Taboo Buddhist History 1 of 2 This is from a Theravadin Buddhist with an historical view. See also, my YT video "What is Wrong with Buddhism." This video here begins outside, then in class, with an explanation about the origins of Pure Land Buddhism. This theory is not proven but there is some evidence and it was taught by Buddhist historian Edward Conze in the 1960's. The view is that Pure Land Buddhism comes from the Zoroastrian Sun God religion from ancient Iran! Another major theory is that it arose within India based on Indian philosophical ideas. Continuing our studies on Buddhism, this video is from a Buddhist history class at the Vancouver School Board - Continuing Education, taught by Brian Ruhe. Here we see the difference between the arahant ideal in the Theravada and the bodhisattva ideal in the Mahayana and the Vajrayana of Tibetan Buddhism. The Theravada criticism of the Mahayana is covered, as the Buddha didn't teach the Mahayana. It was a later development which contradicts the Buddha and creates a schism in the religion. These are the biggest taboos in the entire religion and few teachers will give you the straight goods on this vital subject. Even the Theravadins, who have nothing to hide, don't want to talk about this with outsiders because they don't want to offend the Mahayanists. Look into this! Google "Buddhist History" and it's all there! I am Brian Ruhe, a Buddhist follower and lay teacher. I teach Buddhism and meditation in Vancouver, Canada in adult ed. at several school ...
