  • My Favorite Etudes-tableaux Op.33 by Sergei Rachmaninov I am beggining to really like these pieces, especially after listening to a Russian Pianist perform some of them live! I think that these pieces are overshadowed by Rachmaninov's Preludes. This is a selection of my Favorite Étude-tableaux Op.33. Please leave a comment telling me if you like my selection, or if you would of liked other Études-tableaux Op.33 to be in the video. I like the other pieces aswell, but I find that I like these 3 the most. My next video will include my Favorite Études-tableaux Op.39, which will include 5 pieces. Enjoy the music!
  • Rachmaninoff - Etude Tableaux, Op 33, No 8 - Timothy Nguyen January 31, 2007. Rachmaninoff - Etude Tableaux, Op 33, No 8 in C# minor, performed live by Timothy Nguyen. I got a little carried away on the final chord of this piece :-)
  • Video 7: CALVIN Rachmaninoff Etude Tableaux Op 39#1 in C- Rachmaninoff influenced 20th century music with his post-romantic style. A extraordinary pianist himself, he transformed the dry poetic etude study piece into a master colorful palette. The Etude Tableaux Opus 39 No 1 is one of his many etudes. Set in a dark, mysterious tone of C minor, this technically challenging piece contains mostly alternate broken chords, octaves, arpeggios and shivering tremelos. While it may intimidate some pianists, those who scale this piece can enjoy a sense of accomplishment. Compared to the infamous Rach III (Rachmaninoff's Piano concerto #3 in D minor), this piece contains certain difficult elements. I'm hoping to use this piece to prepare myself to master the Rach III. I have already played the first movement, and the third is now my goal. Rachmaninoff is undoubtedly one of my favorite composers. • rita nowak - austrian artist photography (tableaux vivants) www.castyourart.com (english version) www.castyourart.com (german version) The artist Rita Nowak, based in Vienna and London, is carrying on the tradition of the embodiment of living pictures with her held-pose photography. Drawing from historical paintings, she composes living pictures using fellow artists as models thereby bringing the historical works up-to-date. Rather than creating mere reproductions, she investigates the possibilities of interpretation, thereby developing pictures that visualize the past in the present and modern images that are depicted through the visual language of past centuries.

  • Part 1- Phil plays Tableaux de Provence mvt.1,2,3 for Jean Marie Londeix Master Class. Phil plays Tableaux de Provence mvt.1,2,3 for a Master Class held by Jean Marie Londeix at Lawrence University on Sept.22, 2009. This shares with the saxophone community the insight that the great saxophonist and educator Jean Marie Londeix has on the world of music. Professor Londeix's long career includes acting as Professor of Saxophone at the Bordeaux Conservatory and Dijon conservatory, performing in concert countless times, and making definitive recordings of some of the saxophone's finest literature. Jean Marie Londeix premiered Tableau de Provence in the late 1950's, and personally knew Paule Maurice. As with so much else in the classical saxophone genre, he is unequaled in his knowledge and experience. He premiered the Dubois concerto; the Denisov Sonate, the Murgier Concerto; Tableaux de Provence; Noda Improvisations; and amazingly to me performed "Scaramouche" with Darius Milhaud conducting. Due to Youtube time restrictions, this video is posted in 2 parts. The Londeix biography and Private Collections CD set is available at Amazon and I and highly recommend both as being essential to the classical saxophonist.

  • Richter plays Rachmaninoff Etudes-Tableaux op.39 No.1 & 2 The title Etudes-Tableaux / picture etudes was apparently coined by Rachmaninoff, although this form is not unique to him. It is possible that the Transcendental Etudes of Liszt served as a forerunner to the Etudes-Tableaux. Each piece presents a pianistic problem, in the tradition of the etude. In addition to this, an extra-musical idea is implied, although Rachmaninoff was reluctant to reveal any program associated with the Etudes-Tableaux. He stated, "I do not believe in the artist disclosing too much of his images. Let them paint for themselves what it most suggests." The Etudes-Tableaux were the last works Rachmaninoff composed in Russia. Author of "Rachmaninoff: His Life and Times", Robert Matthew-Walker, writes that they mark the virtual end of the nine***th-century tradition of virtuoso writings of the great composer-pianists. He further states that Opus 39 is a hidden set of variations on the composers idée-fixe, the Dies irae, parts of the plainchant being quoted directly in all of the nine studies, particularly obviously in the first five. He adds that in these compositions Rachmaninoff seems to be writing less in the Russian tradition and more in the Central and East-European tradition. The entire collection contains a vivid rhythmic life of its own. A different harmonic language including modal harmonies is used and can be compared to that of the Third Concerto. The Etudes-Tableaux Opus 33 were composed in the months of August and September of 1911 and were ...

He was one of the finest pianists of his day and, as a composer, the last great representative of Russian late Romanticism in classical music. Early influences of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and other Russian composers gave way to a thoroughly personal idiom which included a pronounced lyricism, expressive breadth, structural ingenuity and a tonal palette of rich, distinctive orchestral colors.[1] Understandably, the piano figures prominently in Rachmaninoff's compositional output, either as a solo instrument or as part of an ensemble. He made it a point, however, to use his own skills as a performer to explore fully the expressive possibilities of the instrument. Even in his earliest works, he revealed a sure grasp of idiomatic ...
  • M.Mdivani - M.Musorgsky - Les Tableaux D'Une Exposition Final part - Le grande porte de Kiev. As with most of Mussorgsky's works, Pictures at an Exhibition has a complicated publication history. Although composed very rapidly (during June 2-22, 1874), the work did not appear in print until 1886 (five years after the composer's death), when an edition by the composer's great friend Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was published. This publication, moreover, was not a completely accurate representation of Mussorgsky's score, but presented an edited and revised text that had been reworked to a certain amount, as well as containing a substantial number of errors and misreadings. Only in 1931, more than half a century after the work's composition, was Pictures at an Exhibition published in a scholarly edition in agreement with the composer's m***cript. In 1940, the Italian composer Luigi Dallapiccola published an important critical edition of Mussorgsky's work with extensive commentary. Mussorgsky's hand-written m***cript was published in facsimile in 1975

  • Michael Ponti: Etude Tableaux Op. 39, No. 2 in A minor (Rachmaninov) Michael Ponti plays Rachmaninov's Etude Tableaux Op. 39, No. 2 in A minor. This recording is part of a 3-LP set produced by Vox in the early 1960s and distributed in a boxed set in the early 1970s, Serial number SVBX 5456. Ponti is remembered for his wide-ranging recordings of the unknown romantic repertoire on the Vox label. He recorded a series of concertos, many of which had never been recorded before, and some indeed unrecorded since, by such composers as Ignaz Moscheles, Charles-Valentin Alkan, Sigismund Thalberg, Moritz Moszkowski and Hans Bronsart von Schellendorf. He also recorded the complete piano music of Scriabin, Rachmaninoff and Tschaikovsky.
