Lionel Acela at Westport, CT First Night The test track runs of my Acela were the lead-up to this New Year's Eve event in Westport, CT. "First Night" () in this town is a collection of family-friendly events, one of which is a public model train display presided over by "Dennis the Conductor" (also a friend of mine). After hearing about last year's event, and the kinds of trains that prompted the most positive response (hint New Haven wasn't recognized), I decided that an Amtrak Acela would garner a positive response due to its ultramodern appearance and that it also passes through Westport's Metro-North station. While the Westport Public Library's folding tables were somewhat swaybacked to varying degrees (The Acela's couplers are very sensitive to irregularities in track elevation), we managed to iron out the gremlins enough to give the children and their parents a good show in the latter half of the three-hour display. The first shot was taken during the show with the public in attendance (I couldn't move around as I was manning the transformer powering the Acela's loop, sounding the horn to warn curious children away as the train approached), and the second was taken after the display ended and there was room to follow the train around the loop. Normally I am a staunch proponent of using an actual camcorder to film clips intended for YouTube, since most digital cameras up to fairly recently recorded choppy video and weak scratchy audio. We ended up at The Tropic, a dilapidated two story clapboard hotel right on the beach. At $15 a night, it was exactly what we were looking for, and exactly what you would expect in that price range. A tub and sink that didn't drain, paper thin walls and a mattress that left bruises. You do get what you pay for. But the toilet flushed, the ceiling fan blew the sheets off the bed, and the view was as good as it gets. The 3 ½ days we spent on Caulker were a blur of inactivity chased by laziness interspersed with naps. So yeah, it was great. Sure, we did some stuff along the way, snorkeling a bit on our own, and all day on a tour out to the barrier reef where we swam with sharks and stingrays and whatnot. I fished a bit every evening, catching a bunch of different stuff including bonefish and barracuda, but mostly it was all about relaxing. Pretty sweet really. And every walk around the town included a little local color, with random encounters with local eccentrics like CrissCross, Beadhead, and Castaway Bob. WH Immagonation "George" Video 1 "George" is a 9 year old registered Arabian gelding. He is VERY well-trained and rides beautifully and is easy to handle on the ground. I have had him since birth and been his only owner. He is for sale to a GOOD home only. He is healthy and sound and UTD on everything. Been shown and trail-ridden. **I had someone email and ask if he is sway-backed. He is NOT sway-backed...He has very high withers that make his back appear to be swayed. Goodbye Penny... About 3 weeks ago, we lost Penny, the most amazing pony in the world. I don't even know where to start. This pony, was a wonder pony. She taught SO many kids to ride, over 300 I'm sure. Including me. She did it all. Barrels, jumping, shows, you name it. And I am absolutely completely and utterly devastated that shes gone. It seemed like just yesterday I was cantering her around the yard bareback, just for the hell of it. RIP Penny, the best and most caring pony in the world Her health started to deteriorate in early spring, we thought she had laminitis, so we put her on supplements and kept her off grass, and she started to gain weight again and was happier, so we left her. Then she started to deteriorate again. Faster, and worse. By the time we put her down she was skinny and swaybacked and had lymes disease and cushings and was dead lame, all in a matter of a few weeks. DO NOT JUDGE. This pony was almost 30 years old, and we had a really hard time making the decision to let her go. And I swear if I get one rude comment I will bite someones head off. I'm not kidding.

FireBond Skeeter (new name) =] =] well lets see how this works - not as good now being that i had to redo it - but thats okay - it still works so its good by my train lol enjoy!! (i cannot catch skeeter for my life but i did good keeping up with him later when he was cantering) I could not believe my sister had convinced me to ask mom if we could go look at riding barns, and I was doing it. Two year's before, I had walked away from horse's and everything to do with them. For five year's I was a jumper with high-strung ex-racing horse's. I had learned you have to be meaner then the horse your riding and that horse's are scary and un-trustworthy. A woman came over and talked to us about her riding lesson's and I just said "yes" (and I still don't know what made me). After riding in three of her lesson's, she took me over to the small, dark stall. Inside was a sway-backed, annoyed, small horse. She lead him out and it turned out he was not small (he was one of the biggest horse's I had seen there to tell the truth). He walked with a hard limp on his right front leg, but he didn't seem to notice. "This is Skeeter. He's an retired rodeo horse, and you'll ride him today." She told me. I just watched him while she tacked him up. He was the exact picture of the mean horse's I had worked with for five year's. He threw his head around, stomped, snorted, danced, flatened his ears, and bit. When she held the bit up, he snatched it up and she fit it to his head. Douley riding with a drop noseband Well, it's been a long winter and Douley and I are enjoying being out doors at last. At this time I was working on posting higher, I have a tendency to post to low. With the higher posting, I'm able to keep him more rounded in the back. I'm also working on keeping my abs tight, my hips more under me so I'm not sway backed myself. As the trainer says, as I'm posting up I'm actually pulling Douley up with me. It feels like I'm really going very high but I could actually post even higher. As you can see with the higher posting Douley actually has more energy in his trot. My legs are not in their correct position as I'm more focused on the posting but eventually I'll get my legs in better position. I'm also trying to keep my chin down, as I have a tendency to jut my chin out which sways my back. So many things to think about. The trainer wanted to try Douley out with a drop noseband, to see if it would improve the way he breathes, thus improving the way he moves and I can say with certainty that the dropped noseband has made a big difference. He's not pulling against the bit, he's listening better to my signals and I think he's breathing better, no more coughing spells in the ring. I'm also getting more confident and enjoying our time together. If you look closely you can see when I'm posting to low, my trainer wanted me to see the difference.
