Glacier Surfing Alaska World champion big wave surfers, Garrett McNamara and Kealii Mamala rode into surfing history last week when they towed into a monster tsunami created by Child's Glacier in South-Central Alaska. The creator/producer, Ryan Casey, "disovered" the wave in 1995, while on location shooting in Alaska. Then after finishing his last film, Quest, a documentary on big wave surfing, he showed Garrett the wave... that was six months ago. "Aqua Alta Surfing": St. Mark's Square on a Wakeboard Everything happened at the speed of light on Tuesday: just a few minutes after 11 am, the high-water mark had reached 1.35 metres, equivalent to a good half metre of water covering St. Mark's Square. Duncan Zuur's team pulled a compact, 20 horsepower motor winch from its hiding place and placed it under the square's arches. One team member, clad in rubber boots, pulled the winchs cable about 120 metres across the square and pressed one end firmly into the hand of Duncan Zuur, who had taken the opportunity to get into his wakeboarding gear. Four elegant turns later, the event was over prompting by a standing ovation from an astounding crowd of tourists. And luckily for Duncan, the police didn't even notice.

The World's First Surfing Mice - The Radical Rodents You will not believe your eyes !!! Hello we are the Radical Rodents, the coolest and hippest mice in the world. We are all mad keen surfers and as far as we know are the only rodents in the world that surf, which would make us the world's smallest surfers. Our names are Chopsticks, Bunsen, Harry & Curly and we have been surfing for over 3 years. We love living here up in sunny Queensland because we get to surf most of the year as the water is warm and the weather is mild. Also there are lots of stinking rich folk with massive boats that deliver the waves which we long to ride. We mainly surf in rivers and estuarys as we are only very tiny, but as you will see we get some very nice waves indeed and on the weekends when the boats are out it is very consistent. To all you brave mice out there at home who think this sounds like a groovy idea, please do not try this. We are trained proffessionals and have endured a lengthy process learning how to swim and how to balance on a board. All the team is in our last season of surfing as we are all getting old and as mice we live for approx 3-4 years. We have already started showing some of our offspring the ropes and Bunsen's son Junior has already caught a few and will be joining the team soon. The new generation are as keen as mustard and we all look forward to seeing them take over the reins so we can retire. As the bass begins softly, the images start to move up along a vertical line, apparently reflecting the path of an elevator. Everything is transparent, everything is structured: The scaffolding is echoed in the picture's frame, which rolls across the screen in a way similar to a poor film projection, offsetting the illusion of movement. Or the images accentuate the music through superimpositions, short zooms and shots through cloudy glass. A small model of the Statue of Liberty then briefly disorients the viewer, and the vertical movement becomes horizontal, moving from Tokyo to Kyoto: ***ogously to the laid-back drum'n'bass, the images then begin a relaxed and aimless journey through Japan's urban spaces. In this phase, the two elements almost unite, in smooth parallel movement. Near the end, the rhythm materializes in the human body. Three kids break-dance in a city park and are then joined by others. While this is not an arrival at a certain destination, it is definitely more than a chance meeting. At Beaver Bay in Duluth (lake superior), Minnesota amongst freezing cold temperatures, Sterling was able to surf some remarkably big waves despite being in an actual fresh water lake.

Just last week, Shipstern Bluff -- a notoriously shallow wave off the southern tip of Tasmania, Australia -- produced some of the most spectacular rides of the year and triggered numerous entries into the BILLABONG XXL GLOBAL BIG WAVE AWARDS.
