  • Diane's Succulent Plant Collection This is my succulent collection of uniquely different textures and shapes of succulents. I fell in love with succulents a few years ago, because of their unique looking characteristics , and they like and tolerate some dryer conditions. Not only that but if you live in a colder area, many do well as houseplants as you see in this video. Succulents store their water in their leaves which means less watering is needed when growing succulents. Propagation is another reason I love them so, once you have one plant, many will make into many plants over time. Succulents look great in containers , mixed with different colors and textures to make them really stand out. I have seen succulents in the strangest containers , such as shoes, boots, cupcake pans, anything really will do provided they have good drainage. Succulents should be planted in a soil that is recommended for cactus and succulents, a mix of peat , sand , perlite works well and let them dry out completely between waterings. I look forward to bringing you individual videos on some of my most favorite succulents so stay tuned. http growing succulents, how to grow, Zebra Haworthia,Cotyledon Bears Paw ,ALOE ,Aloe zanzibarica, leopard lily, gardening, houseplants, indoor plants, ogon sedum, variegated sedum, types, succulents, propagation, succulent pictures, Crassula princess pine, haworthia white ghost, variegated jade, crassula gollum et fingers , kalanchoe, container gardening

  • Succulents in Containers I'm sure you've seen those spectacular containers bursting with color and crazy cacti known as succulents left wondering, how do I do that? Well, worry no more, because I also wondered and got the answers from Debra Lee Baldwin, author of Succulent Container Gardens. Tip #1 pick the container first, then the plant or succulent,or you won't have a "pot to plant in." Then, take that pot with you to your favorite nursery to play "dress up" with your plant selections and see what works. Remember the designer mantra of repetition and contrast and know that you cant do this!~ Enjoy

  • Growing Succulents - Cloning Fat Plants www.b2 Succulents, also known as "Fat Plants" retain water and are easy to clone and grow for visual enjoyment. Normally I do not suggest any plants that you can not eat and just "look" nice but these were salvaged from a poor environment so we have a small history with them. Certain succulents also make wonderful companion plants. Many gardeners allow other plants to grow and vine over the succulents making them useful in vertical gardening as well. Succulents normally pull up water into the leaves and stem, the roots normally stay close to the surface, and in some cases there may be more photosynthesis from the stem when compared to the leaves. I have found that water every few days is fine but once or twice a year I spend a week or two with watering daily. Succulents include aloe, cacti, agave, and many other varieties. Cloning Succulents Certainly the easiest plant that I have cloned is the succulent. The succulents that I have been working grow small shoots under the soil that can be cut off and planted in soil with good drainage. Normally I wait until there is about 4-6 inches of stem and a full group of leaves before cutting the new plant off of the mother plant. It seems to take a few months before the plant has developed a significant root structure but once the roots have grown the plant should stay healthy for years to come even with very little watering. If you are not able to water the succulent regularly it will normally not grow quickly since the ...

  • Jeff Pavlat succulent garden design: Central Texas Gardener See how Jeff Pavlat and Ray Clayton turned a treacherous slope into limestone terraces, patios and staircases. To plant them, Jeff wanted deer resistant plants that needed little water and care. Through the Austin Cactus & Succulent Society, he found a passion for succulents and cacti, including Southwestern natives and specimens from around the world. For design impact, he clusters groups of plants against central standouts in each bed, alternating strong textures with softer plants. Jeff designed an upper story patio to feature aloes and a millstone fountain in a Japanese-inspired setting. In a greenhouse, he tends less cold hardy specimens. They tamed a water-collecting slope at the front door with a pond.

  • How to Plant Cacti & Succulents Cacti and succulents are not difficult to grow if you keep their basic requirements in mind. First and foremost, cacti require excellent drainage. • Moorten Botanical Gardens - Cacti & Succulents Located at the southern end of Palm Canyon Drive, the Moorten Botanical Gardens and Cactarium is a favorite Palm Springs attraction and the enduring legacy of Patricia and Chester "Cactus Slim" Moorten. Both shared a love of the Desert and its beauty, plants and wildlife. Nicknamed Slim for his tall lanky form and work as a contortionist, Moorten was one of the original Keystone Cops and became the stand-in for Howard Hughes. Poor health led him to Palm Springs in the 1930s with his young wife Patricia, a biologist with a special interest in botany. Together they explored the surrounding area collecting desert plants and in 1938 created an arboretum. The Moorten Botanical Gardens now boasts 3000 examples of desert cacti and other desert plants grouped by geographic regions: Arizona, Baja California, California, Colorado, the Mojave desert, the Sonora desert, South Africa, arid South America, and Texas. Outdoor collections include agaves, bombax, crested Cereus, cardon and boojum trees, arborescent "candelabra" Euphorbia, a two-story Pachypodium, thorned Caesalpinia and Bursera, and aloes of southern Africa and Madagascar. In the "Cactarium" greenhouse are cacti and succulents, with caudiciform species exhibiting thickened root crowns, many species of Asclepiads, Aztecia, Gymnocalyciums, Alstromeria, Euphorbia, and Ferocactus, plus two Welwitzia mirabilis from Namibian deserts. Slim and Patricia Moorten designed and installed landscapes for Frank Sinatra and were friends ...
