It was on August 11, 1919, that Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun got together not far from the current stadium, on Cherry Street in downtown Green Bay, and decided to form a football team. In order to help out with the cost of the jerseys and other equipment, it was the company that Curly Lambeau worked for as a clerk, for $250 a month, that came through. The Indian Packing Company gave them the money for the jerseys and the other equipment that was needed. Thus the name "The Packers". Since 1919, this team, through ups and downs, has succeeded in an amazing way. The team has won 12 National Football League championships. They have 21 members in the Football Hall of Fame.
