  • Noel Pearson Brisbane Writers Festival Protest - (Part 3) Controversial Australian Aboriginal writer, and Howard Golden-Boy, Noel Pearson was a keynote speaker at the 2009 Brisbane Writers Festival. Pearson is portrayed in much of the media and by political commentators as speaking for all Aboriginal people. Yet Pearson has been an outspoken supporter and co-architect of the Howard and Rudd Governments genocidal, racist and illegal Northern Territory Intervention which demonises entire Aboriginal communities, and includes racist laws that specifically target Aboriginal people. Pearson has helped to have the Racial Discrimination Act suspended. Pearson has helped to have Land Rights eroded and communities forced to lease their land in return for basic services that should be their right. UN special special delegate on indigenous rights Professor James Anaya has just slammed the intervention, calling income quarantining "demeaning" and saying the intervention "overtly discriminates against Aboriginal peoples" and "stigmatise already stigmatised communities". Yet Pearson, as self-appointed spokesperson for Aboriginal people, champions this demeaning, racist policy. Sam Watson asks Pearson: "HEY NOEL, DO YOU HAVE A RATION CARD?! IS YOUR INCOME MANAGED BY WHITE PUBLIC SERVANTS?! DO YOU LIVE IN A TOWN CAMP?! YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR ME OR MY FAMILY OR MY COMMUNITY !!!" There was a protest at his first talking session at the Festival on Thursday night including representative from the Wilderness Society accusing him of spreading ...

  • Speaker Tour 2009: An Interview With Sheikh Yusha Evans - Part 1 As a follow up for the already concluded Speaker Tour which was held last November in Ireland, FOSIS Ireland would like to present a short interview video with the speaker, Sheikh Yusha Evans. The 15 minutes interview video is divided into 3 parts. In part 1, as Sheikh Yusha Evans revealed his inheritance of the Irish blood, he expresses his impression on the hospitality he received from the Muslim community and praises, generally, all the effort that have been done to make the tour successful. He also mentions that Muslims should take advantage from the situation in which Islam has not been severely stigmatised in this country to spread and explain the true teaching of this beautiful religion to the Irish community. In the 2nd part of the interview which is focusing on the youth, the speaker urges the Muslim youth to come to the realization that becoming a Muslim is something that they should be proud of. It is only by having this vision that the speaker conceived can release the youth from the clutch of inferiority complex that hinder them to work and contribute in finding solutions to the problems that plague their society. Finally, in the last part of the interview, Sheikh Yusha took the opportunity to bring upon and discuss small things in Islam that the Muslims sometimes take for granted. He advices the Muslims not to consider any good action of little magnitude lightly because, in parallel to what the Prophet SAW had said, the small things which are done ...

  • Project Kalki Intro movie Project Kalki is the voice of the voiceless. Transgender women, all over the world, have been the most marginalised, stigmatised and discriminated community for centuries. Except in Tamilnadu, our voices have not been heard anywhere in India. This is a project to empower those women to speak who have not spoken, to hear their voices. To empower them to tell the world what they wanted to say through video films. As citizens of this great country, transgender women also care about other under privileged people and care about social problems of this country. In this dream project, Kalki provides a Canon Legria FS 200 hanycam to seven under privileged transgender women. They are also provided with all the accessories needed for filming. These women carry the camera in their hands for a few days and shoot their stories and subjects. After one person completes the filming, she hands it over to the next girl. When all the seven girls finish their shoots, their films are edited and made as short documentary films by themselves. These subjects these girls have chosen are all unique. For example, Gomathi wants to do a short documentary on street children, Sandhiya wants to do a story on abandoned aged people and Monal does a story on garbage pickers. Some girls have chosen the subject of their relationships. These films will be screened at a venue in Chennai and other places in India.

  • Breaking the silence on AIDS in Egypt An estimated 34 million people are living with HIV and AIDS across the globe. Many don't even know they have it, but of those who do more than nine million are still not getting vital treatment. That ratio is particularly bad in countries where the virus is stigmatised, such as Egypt. The UN estimates around 11000 people there have HIV, but only 400 are seeking treatment. But now one man is trying to change that. Magid is the first HIV positive person to speak out in Egypt about his experience. He told Al Jazeera his story.

  • Psychiatry vs. The Chilean Miners Educational Material by The Blue Panthers Party. This video is intended to be a critique of psychiatry using psychiatric labels to stigmatise, control and punish people based on how they behave, think and feel about occurrences in their lives. These occurrences obviously include issues that you do not hear so much about in the media and they include social problems such as the disregard for, exploitation, oppression and abuses of a group of people (eg working class) by a more powerful group of people (eg elite, ruling class, middle class) . So it happens, for example, that one group is send to war and gets blown to bits or sent down a mine shaft and contracts all sorts of physical health problems or gets buried alive while the other groups makes a profit and is celebrated as the real heroes (apparently "front-line soldiers do not win wars", and "workers in factories do not create internationally successful corporations). When something goes wrong blame virtually always travels down and when individuals protest against what is happening to them they can get quickly stigmatised by being defined as "mentally ill" and punished by being forcefully admitted to psychiatric hospitals, as well as being drugged (psychoactive drugs) and shocked (electroconvulsive therapy). The use of "psychiatric labels" can lead to the belief that people can be afflicted by factual things (eg mental illness, psychological disorders) without realising that these "psychiatric disorders" are ...

The Make a PACT website: What they are doing: Stepping Stoned Nigeria: Children's Rights and Rehabilitation Center (CRARN): My original video on this subject 'Witch?': PACT (Prevent Abuse of Children Today) is a global campaign established by the UK-based child rights charity, Stepping Stones Nigeria and their Nigerian partner organisations. The aim of PACT is to bring long-term positive social change to vulnerable children in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, particularly those at risk of witchcraft accusations, abuse and trafficking. With high levels of malnutrition, poverty, persistent violent conflicts and disease, increasing numbers of children in the Niger Delta are being forced to the streets putting them at risk of abuse, rape and trafficking. Witchcraft is often seen as the source of problems within Nigerian society with vulnerable children being the group most at risk of witchcraft accusations. Children stigmatised as witches face abandonment by their families and communities, torture, public humiliation, disgrace and even murder. Otherwise if she has been diagnosed with BPD and you know for a fact that her life has not been a history of pathology, then she might just be immature, compulsive or selfish. These are not diseases of themselves - just something she has to work through. How you deal with this is your own choice. Get a second opinion if you yourself are diagnosed with BPD. You may find yourself stigmatised and pumped full of drugs for being a normal human being going through a difficult patch. Or, you might be a psychopathic female who got a free ticket. When evidence of peer-reviewed scientific studies are presented, backed up with empirical evidence underpinning the validity of BPD, I will respectfully remove this video and publically announce I was wrong. Until then the title of this video remians.
  • Obstetric fistula: Sentenced to injury and shame Obstetric fistula is a little-known social affliction which is extremely stigmatised within society. It is a hole in the birth c*** that causes women to become incontinent, most commonly a result of an obstructed labour. It is a condition that has largely disappeared in the western world, but remains a problem in many developing countries. More than 2 million women worldwide suffer from fistula, mostly in Africa. As International Women's Day approaches MSF draws attention to the fact that this injury continues to exist and destroy the lives of women in many countries around the world. It can however be prevented and treated and MSF projects impact significantly on the lives of affected women. MSF tackles this in two ways: preventing fistula by obstetrical healthcare available to women, as well as organising fistula sessions to treat women.

  • Holocaust - The Silent Partners of Hitler www.israelpalestine- All that is necessary For evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. ~Edmond Burke~ The mass of ordinary Germans did know about the evolving terror of Hitler's Holocaust, according to a new research study. They knew concentration camps were full of Jewish people who were stigmatised as sub-human and race-defilers. They knew that these, like other groups and minorities, were being killed out of hand. They knew that Adolf Hitler had repeatedly forecast the extermination of every Jew on German soil. They knew these details because they had read about them. They knew because the camps and the measures which led up to them had been prominently and proudly reported step by step in thousands of officially-inspired German media articles and posters according to the study. BUT THEY ARE SAYING: WE DIDN'T KNOW!!!! The reports, in newspapers and magazines all over the country were phases in a public process of "desensitization" which worked all too well, culminating in the killing of 6 million Jews. In November, 1938 the anti-Jewish pogrom on and after "The Night of Broken Glass" was reported countrywide in papers as heroic.
