This technique is not meant for very large or heavy cameras, but is ideal for consumer-sized camcorders like the HV20.

- DIY iPhone 4 Steadicam Here's a little instructional vid I did to show you how to make a steadicam for your iPhone (it also works great for small camcorders). Be sure to check out the demo vid over at . Edit: Not trying to take credit for inventing any part of this, lots of people have great posts on YouTube and elsewhere on how to make every part of this, and I highly recommend them. I can't credit them all, so use the search bar or Google. This is just my take on how to do it for an iPhone or small camcorder. It's just for fun. If anyone wants more details and instructions just let me know. Edit 2: Thanks for all the comments, I'm using your advice to tweak this thing and post one more video (and then I'm done with this thing, it's on to more useful tools). Right now this is more a stabilizer than a steadicam. A real steadicam needs to be completely balanced, which this rig is not. So stay tuned. Also as some have pointed out BE CAREFUL HEATING PVC PIPE! IF IT BURNS IT IS HIGHLY TOXIC (puts off Dioxin)! Don't let it catch fire, and perform in a well ventilated area, preferably with a mask. And the camera I used to film this How To was a Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm 1.2L lens. No lighting, or post effects were used. Lastly if you want to purchase the phone holder I used, you can find it here, along with all the gear I used to film this How To: Thanks!

- Zero-cost Steadicam! Build a crude and simple 'steadicam' with no equipment at all. You just need the concept: a camera with a counterweight. Then simply grasp it at the balance point. (No, it's not QUITE as good as an expensive professional version. Heh.) Also: turn the tripod's pan handle sideways and grab it for more horizontal stability. - DIY Steadicam Merlin Finally spent the time to make my very own Merlin. I need to modify a couple of things then it should be ready to get black anodized. 95% of the parts made on a manual mill, the rest on CNC mill and manual lathe. Handle is a 21 LED flashlight. The all-metal u-joint is from a 1/8 scale R/C truck. It will handle a 5 Lb. camera just like the real Merlin and weights less than a pound without weights. My first test of it will be at the up coming hot air balloon show.
