SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS, one of Australias most celebrated music festivals is set to commemorate its 10-year anniversary with its most exciting event yet. 2010 and the beautiful site of WOODFORDIA in the QLD Sunshine Coast hinterland will play host to SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS in this very special anniversary year. And this year, the birthday party will take place over three magnificent days from Friday July 30th to Sunday August 1st 2010. This year, for the first time, were proud to serve up our much-anticipated line-up on one big, fat platter. Thats more than 80 acts that will perform across our three main stages the Amphitheatre, Mix Up Tent and GW McLennan Stage. The capacity at Woodfordia is 30000, with enough room on site for 20000 campers. As a result, there will be a combined event and camping ticket available for the first time. The event/camping ticket will provide access to the campgrounds from Wednesday 28th July with the actual event site opening 4pm Thursday 29th July until 12 midday on Monday 2nd August. Please note the Amphitheatre, Mix Up and McLennan stages will be operating on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only. Mario Lanza - Oh, Nights Of Splendour Mario Lanza singing Oh, Nights Of Splendour for his Coca-Cola Show radio broadcast... Not sure which recording/broadcast this relates to as there is nothing on the booklet with the CD, but according to the sources(see below) Lanza recorded this twice on 10th July 1951, one which was broadcast on 22nd July 1951(CBS Coca-Cola radio show - it is not stated if the original or alternate take was used, but one would assume it was the alternate). The song was also broadcast on 22nd October 1951(NBC Coca-Cola radio show), but I can't find a relative recording for this date, so it's possible this is the same recording as used for 22nd July, or it could be the original/alternate take. Recorded at Radio Recorders Studio, Hollywood; orchestra conducted by Ray Sinatra(sources: Mario Lanza - An American Tragedy by Armando Cesari; Mario Lanza - A Biography by Derek Mannering) Just listen to the phrase, "...make love surrender till stars are gone..." at the beginning of this song - this is just one of the reasons that Lanza was in a class of his own, particularly when it came to this sort of song! Formed in 1975 they predated the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, already a serious hard hitting live act before the NWOBHM bands came on the scene. They had a fearsome reputation for blowing big name bands off the stage when playing support slots. Everyone, me included, thought they would be huge one day, especially when NWOBHM fever hit in 1980. Maddeningly, bizzarely, myseriosly - they were never signed by a major label. The legacy they left behind, two EPs and a self released cassette tape, are fantastic and they have aquired cult status as one of the very best unsigned bands ever... ...but the story isn't quite finished, yet. They have a new website, COPYRIGHT Information: This record was self released by the band on the GBH label.
