  • Sorrel-Weed Ghost Hunters Tour This is from my September 25, 2009 Ghost Hunters tour of the Sorrel-Weed House in Savannah. The home has been beautifully restored and has a scandalous past. Francis Sorrel came to the US from Hispaniola. He left his country just before a slave revolt broke in 1793. His mother was of half French and Haitian heritage. Francis denied his Haitian heritage and it is said that his mothers family placed a voodoo curse on him when he left. He married Lucinda Moxley and had 2 children. She was found dead at the age of 29 from the Yellow Fever. He then married her sister, Matilda with whom he had 8 more children. As did many wealthy families of the time, the Sorrel family has slaves that worked for them. Francis had a romantic relationship with one of the slaves, Molly. When Matilda caught Francis and Molly together, she committed suicide by jumping head first into the courtyard. Two short weeks after her suicide, Molly was found hanging dead in her room. The original explanation was that Molly, overcome with grief and shame from her affair subsequent suicide of Matilda, committed suicide herself. Though many believed Molly's death was the result of her own doing, the scene offered little evidence to support it. Apparently, there was nothing nearby that Molly would have stood on in order to hang herself. The Ghost Hunters crew investigated the Sorrel-Weed home in 2005 and captured an EVP from the carriage house that reveals a female voice shouting "...NO!... STOP!...HELP!...OH MY ...

  • Haunted Sorrel-Weed House Ghost - Savannah We took the last tour of the evening on 07/07/09 and after the tour we stayed around getting more video. The last few seconds of the last clip I shot, long after the tour ended, shows a woman, dressed in a black, full, antebellum style dress, and clutching a cape at her breast, walking across the porch. The exit from the property is through a gate near the tree in the middle of the video. Our car was parked just off screen on the left. There were 3 of us and we saw no one exit the house nor pass out through the gate onto the street. We were there for awhile and the streets were completely deserted as it was after 1:00 AM. If someone from the house had exited I would have talked to them to gather more footage about the house, but we saw no one else in the area. Whats that you say? It has to be an employee leaving the house that we did not notice... That must be it cause we all know there aren't any REAL ghosts.... Right? • Bilimbi, Averrhoa Bilimbi, Cucumber Tree, Tree Sorrel, Belimbing Sayur Averrhoa bilimbi, commonly known as balimbing, bilimbi, blim-blim, bimbli, belimbing, blimbling, biling, (and also bimbiri in Sinhala and iba in Cebuano), cucumber tree, kamias, tree sorrel, soure, or khế tàu is a close relative of the carambola, of genus Averrhoa, family Oxalidaceae. The bilimbi tree is long-lived and reaches 5-10 m in height. Its trunk is short and quickly divides up into ramifications. Bilimbi leaves, 3-6 cm long, are alternate, imparipinnate and cluster at branch extremities. There are around 11 to 37 alternate or subopposite oblong leaflets. The leaves are quite similar to those of the Otaheite gooseberry. Possibly originating on the Moluccas, Indonesia, the species is cultivated or found semi-wild throughout Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Myanmar (Burma). It is common in other Southeast Asian countries. In India, where it is usually found in gardens, the bilimbi has gone wild in the warmest regions of the country. Outside of Asia, the tree is cultivated in Zanzibar. In 1793, the bilimbi was introduced to Jamaica from Timor and after several years, was cultivated throughout Central and South America where it is known as mimbro. Introduced to Queensland at the end of the 19th century, it has been grown commercially in the region since that time. This is essentially a tropical tree, less resistant to cold than the carambola, growing best in rich and well-drained soil (but also stands limestone and sand). It prefers evenly ...

  • Da Spirits - Black Cake and Sorrel (A Ma$tamind Christmas) In early 2006, Ma$taMind Productions released an instrumental track, "J'Ouvert Fiddla," performed by what was thought to be a group of musicians going by the name Da $pirit$. By February many a reveler chipped down the road to the tune without knowing who or what Da $pirit$ was but enjoying the music. Soon it was revealed that Shawn "Da Ma$taMind" Noel was the man behind the sound. "I grew up listening to a lot of older music I especially enjoyed and will always be inspired by The Mighty Spoiler, Roy Cape, Frankie Francis, Syl Dopson, Gene Lawrence Joey Lewis, and my Dad Simon Noel. So I have a lot of respect for the Pioneers of the artform. That old time sound has been and will always be something that inspires me." "I chose the name "Da $pirit$ as a way of paying tribute to all of the musicians we've had - recognizing every one from the pan arrangers to members of the old time brass bands. I actually finished 'J'Ouvert Fiddla' quite a while before we released it. At first the plan was to have another artist put vocals on the track but my wife insisted that the music was great just the way it is and that I should leave it as an instrumental track and it grew from there," explained Noel. So Da $pirts was born and inspired Noel to go from one instrumental to the next , After the J'Ouvert Fiddla, Noel Composed Black Cake and Sorrel a very festive instrumental that brought the Christmas feeling to people everywhere. It was fascinating when we learned that Noel had single ...

  • How to make Sorrel aka Agua de Jamaica Agua de Jamaica Makes about 2 quarts -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ingredients 2 cups (2 ounces) dried jamaica flowers 1 ¼ cups sugar -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Directions In a medium (3-quart) stainless steel saucepan, bring 1 ½ quarts of water to a boil. Add the sorrel/jamaica and sugar. Stir for a minute or so, while the liquid returns to a boil and the sugar dissolves. Cover and let steep for at least an hour, but no more than 2. Pour the mixture through colander or strainer into a large bowl, pressing on the sorrel/jamaica to extract as much liquid as possible. Stir in 3 cups water. This recipe makes a tart version of agua de jamaica; feel free to stir in more sugar, if that appeals to you. Store covered in the refrigerator in a noncorrosive container (preferably one that wont strain). Note: for Sorrel, add cinnamon, cloves and/or orange peel to your liking/taste.
