  1. a style of dance music originating in the united states but popularized on the island of Jamaica in the 1960"s and characterised by its use of saxophone and brass sound with a fast tempo and accented off-beat. Ska from the 1960"s is referred to as first wave ska and is well known as Reggae. in the late 1970"s the sounds of the exploding punk scene were thrown into the mix creating a fast, full-throttle sound that excited listeners. This wave is described as the second wave and is called 2-Tone. The newest wave has come out of the early nineties and is still popular. The third wave is often called Ska-Core with several 2-Tone bands returning from retirement to play along side the new guys.
