Roubini: Worst Recession in 40 Years - P1 Roubini Sees Worst Recession in 40 Years, Stock Drop (Update3) Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Nouriel Roubini, the professor who predicted the financial crisis in 2006, said the US will suffer its worst recession in 40 years, driving the stock market lower after it rallied the most in seven decades yesterday. ``There are significant downside risks still to the market and the economy,'' Roubini, 50, a New York University professor of economics, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. ``We're going to be surprised by the severity of the recession and the severity of the financial losses.'' The economist said the recession will last 18 to 24 months, pushing unemployment to 9 percent, and already depressed home prices will fall another 15 percent. The US government will need to double its purchase of bank stakes and force lenders to eliminate dividends to save them from bankruptcy, Roubini added. Treatment for Children with OCD Few children are without certain worries or fears, and its normal for children to develop rituals, such as at bedtime. But for the estimated 1-2 percent of children with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), these thoughts and behaviors become so intense they can be both greatly distressing and disruptive of the childs ability to function. UCLAs Semel Institute and the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA have opened one of the nations few hospital-based intensive outpatient treatment programs for these children. The UCLA Pediatric OCD Intensive Outpatient Program provides three hours of daily individual and group treatment for children ages 8-17, along with family therapy, parent education and support, and medication management. The program is offered four days a week for a minimum of two weeks, depending on the severity of the childs disorder. The severity and types of symptoms exhibited by children with OCD vary greatly, says R. Lindsey Bergman, Ph.D., the programs director. Though OCD is often portrayed as a fear of contamination or the need for things to be orderly, there is a wide range of symptoms. Dr. Bergman explains that most people with OCD have both obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are anxiety-producing, difficult-to-control intrusive thoughts and fears, while compulsions are behaviors or rituals typically developed in an attempt to reduce the anxiety associated with the obsessive thoughts. Pectus Excavatum -Clinton- Day Before Surgery I am 27 years old and this makes my case of Pectus Excavatum a little differnt than most because people usually get this repaired in early *** years. I suffer from a disorder called Pectus Excavatum. This disorder causes my chest (sternum) to grow inwards instead of across. This disorder is more prevalent in males. It occurs in 1 - 1000 births. The severity of the deformity differs per individual. Mine is classified as "severe" in the America. The cause is unknown but usually if you have it someone in your family might have had a mild case (ex. fa or grand fa). The insurance companies measures the severity of the deformity by the Haller Index (distance between breast bone and sternum divided distance from each axilary wall. To qualify as "medical necessity" you must have a Haller Index over 3.25. Mine was 4.41. I had difficulty breathing and my heart/chest would hurt when I would work out and ran. I have always had this dent or hole in my chest. I never knew that it was a medical problem until I fainted in the gym back in Feb 09. I was given referral to see a Thoracic Surgeon and Rileys Childrens Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. I had 3 test done. Puliminary Functions (breathing), Echo (heart), and a CT scan. Test Results were: Mitral Valve Prolapse causing heart murmur. PFT tests showed I inhale at 62% and exhale at 68% of a normal person and the CT scan showed my Haller Index to be 4.41. How is a Heart Attack Diagnosed? Janice B. Dennis, RN, BC, M-CNS, with Cardiovascular Consultants of St. Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, explains how heart attack is diagnosed and treated. Dennis gives a tour of the cardiac catheterization lab and goes in depth with what a patient in the cath-lab would experience. She breaks down what kind of medication and intervention will be used to treat a heart attack. A patients symptoms and a physical examination are important parts of diagnosing a heart attack. The time of onset of symptoms and the description of the discomfort, including location, quality and severity, are important in determining how to treat the heart attack. Tests are done to evaluate the cardiac enzymes and an electric cardiogram is used to determine the severity of the attack. A code STEMI (or ST Elevated Myocardial Infarction) is activated when 100% of the artery is occluded. The emergency team, led by a board certified interventional cardiologist, a STEMI registered nursed and a Cath-lab team, works to open the artery as quickly as possible. In the emergency department, the patient often receives oral antiplatelet medications (such as aspirin and plavix), IV medications (such as Intravenous Heparin and Intravenous Narcotics). A top Coast Guard official talked to News Five Wednesday afternoon. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry attended a coastal recovery meeting in Orange Beach. Landry said the Coast Guard operated under a "worst case scenario situation." She said, "From day one, we said our doctrine, under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, if you go back to the doctrine and all the message traffic that came out, our responsibility is to prepare for a worst case scenario, so we used the term from day one 'worst case scenario spill,' which is a total loss of the well."
