  • Indonesia launches a tsunami early warning system. ANCHOR: Indonesia plans to complete the installation of more than 22 special buoys with sea-floor pressure sensors by next year, but so far international funding has been slow coming in. STORY: These are the latest of the buoys which will form Indonesia's planned tsunami early warning system. The buoys, or darts, are fitted with sea-floor pressure sensors, and are intended to form part of a chain of more than 20 such devices. Officials say they hope to install the system quickly. [Ridwan Djamaluddin, Centre for Marine Surveys]: "We aim to install 17 or 18 units by the end of this year." Thousands of people lost their lives in 2004 when a tsunami up to 10 meters high was triggered by a huge undersea earthquake off Indonesia's coast. Despite the scale of the disaster, putting a warning system in place is hitting some rocks on the way. Experts say the full chain of buoys must be in place, as well as tide readers and seismographs, to deliver tsunami alerts within five minutes of an undersea quake. The country's plans to protect the world's largest archipelago of over 17, 000 islands has some international support but crucial foreign cash to fund it is slow to come.

  • Seconds From Disaster - S03E03 - Russia's Nuclear Sub Nightmare On 12 August 2000, the Russian Oscar II class submarine Kursk sank in the Barents Sea after an explosion. The investigation showed that a leak of hydrogen peroxide in a tor*** led to explosion of its fuel, causing the submarine to hit the bottom which in turn triggered the detonation of further tor*** warheads about two minutes later. This second explosion was equivalent to about 2-3 tonnes of TNT, large enough to register on seismographs across Northern Europe. Despite a rescue attempt by British and Norwegian teams, which was severely delayed due to the Russians refusing them access, all 118 sailors and officers aboard Kursk died. The next year, a Dutch team recovered the wreckage and all of the bodies, which were buried in Russia.

  • 2009 Earthquakes [Mags] I redid the last video converting the sum of the energy released in an interval of time to magnitudes which makes a bit more sense logically than the use of energy per unit time. Again, the result was smoothed somewhat. It's still difficult to make sense of what's happening. There appear to be "lulls", periods of reduced seismic activity, from time to time like the one at the end of 2009. At these times the seismographs look particularly quiet.

  • Diamond Fireburst Fuzz -The Diamond Pedals FBR-1 Fireburst is a crazy-thick fuzz pedal with juicy, saturated tones galore. The Diamond Fireburst is also a punchy, rocking distortion pedal. Amazingly it accomplishes both tasks in a spectacularly toneful fashion with no compromises on either end of the spectrum. You just can't make the Fireburst pedal sound bad. The Diamond Fireburst features two switches, one True Bypass on/off switch and one mid-boost switch. Without the mid-boost engaged the Fireburst is a thick, saturated fuzz that puts out an incredible amount of low-end. The bass response on this thing will set off seismographs in neighboring states. Kick in the mid-boost switch and the Fireburst morphs into a punchy rock distortion. Each switch has it's own corresponding LED. Active Baxandall Treble and Bass controls offer further options for maniacal tone sculpting. The Fireburst features audiophile-grade components, True Bypass switching, and an Active Baxandall equalization. Diamond Pedals are handmade in Canada by Canadians and carry a Five-Year Manufacturer's Warranty on registered pedals.
  • Tornado Research Remote controlled helicopters, seismographs, dilocams & airplanes are just some of the many ways that tornadoes have been researched. Unfortunately they were all doomed to fail. The helicopter would be instantly grounded by hail of any size. The seismograph was not very practical and does not study the actual tornadoes themselves. But it did pick up strong underground vibrations from trees & telephone poles as the tornado passed, presumably from the great winds of the tornado. The Dilocam was meant to be the first camera probe to videotape the inside of a tornado. Unfortunately the lens was penetrated by flying debris and soon was filled with rain, mud & dirt. But it did survive the F2 winds of the large tornado (yes, despite the impressive appearance of the tornado it was F2). The airplanes were not meant to really research tornadoes but to deploy silver iodine to suppress hail in supercell thunderstorms. But they were able to fly through tornadoes safely and captured some incredible footage of up close funnel clouds and lightning.

  • Major Activity On The Sea Floor In The Gulf!.mp4 Original here youtu.be BeePeeOilDisaster | August 02, 2010 This video was made on Monday 8-2-2010 at 7:25 am pacific time. You can see the sea floor having contractions as if getting ready to blow... This is only hours after an earthquake being reported. The sea floor is 1 mile below the surface and BP drilled another 2 miles, if you look at the earthquake information you will see the depth was 3.1 miles! The same depth as the relief well! Coincidence? Maybe they dropped a nuclear device down that hole? If they did it will show up on the seismograph reading as all underground explosions have their own signatures as far as what the pattern looks like for instance some are heart shaped and some look like a little bell etc. A person at the University of Washington who has been reading the seismograph for 20 years confirmed that on the day of the original blow out the shape that was recorded is that for an underground nuclear explosion so it is my belief that BP was using nuclear explosives in drilling the second well just as the Russians have been doing for year except the Russians have never done anything like this under water and they said that BP was crazy for making such an attempt! WARNING: The rabbit hole is very, very, very deep if you step in it may be a while before you are able to once again find your way back out... Blue pill or red pill? This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends and you believe ...

  • A PRAYER FOR JAPAN: Japan Earthquake Maginitude 8.9 March 11, 2011 Visit bit.ly The magnitude 8.9 earthquake that struck Friday off the coast of Japan is going to be among the top 10 earthquakes recorded since we have had seismographs. It's bigger than any known historic earthquake in Japan. Geologists had expected the portion of the Ring of Fire that produced this quake to yield a 8.5 Thursday's quake occurred in the Japan Trench, where the Pacific tectonic plate slides under the Japan plate. Scientists did not expect such a big quake There have been two aftershocks of magnitude 7 or greater. The quake was very shallow. The quake was 80 miles offshore with 15-foot wave. the wave started spreading out away from Japan at about 500 mph. Its suppose to reach Hawaii just before 3 am and the West Coast around 8 am PST. They are not sure how high the waves will be by the time they reach US shores. The buoys are monitoring the waves power and speed. The largest quake on record was the 9.5 Chile in 1960. The west coast of the united states in California has also been given a tsunami warning. And last year on January 12, 2010 Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake. There has been several earthquakes since then. A nuclear reactor has also been affected along with an oil refinery. We must all pray for Japan!

  • Demolition of P Reactor Stack at SRS October 23, 2010, the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site (SRS) removed two exhaust stacks from the Site's P & R reactors. With less than 40 pounds of dynamite and in a matter of seconds, the two 145-foot tall, 700-ton stacks that have towered over the P and R Reactors for more than 50 years came down. The demolition is part of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project that is decommissioning the two Cold War era reactors. This $185 million Recovery Act demolition project is part of in situ, or in-place, decommissioning of the two reactors, a Recovery Act Program managed by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), the SRS management and operations contractor. The project employed 108 people to complete the stack demolition. The rubble from the stacks will be placed below grade and grouted in place at each of the reactors. In preparation for the demolition, SRNS modified the base of each stack to create "columns" into which they will drill 80 15-inch-deep horizontal holes for explosive loading. The explosive charge was initiated by nonelectric detonators ranging in time from 25-200 milliseconds to assist in controlling the rate and direction of the fall of each stack. Seismographs where used in the immediate area to monitor the vibration and air blast generated by the demolition. The P Reactor stack fell first, followed by the R Reactor stack. A video of the demolition is available [here]. The demolitions were performed by Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI ...

  • Be Prepared For Earthquakes In America New Madrid Eathquakes 1811-1812 This sequence of three very large earthquakes is usually referred to as the New Madrid earthquakes, after the Missouri town that was the largest settlement on the Mississippi River between St. Louis, Missouri and Natchez, Mississippi. On the basis of the large area of damage (600000 square kilometers), the widespread area of perceptibility (5000000 square kilometers), and the complex physiographic changes that occurred, the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812 rank as some of the largest in the United States since its settlement by Europeans. They were by far the largest east of the Rocky Mountains in the US and Canada. The area of strong shaking associated with these shocks is two to three times as large as that of the 1964 Alaska earthquake and 10 times as large as that of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Because there were no seismographs in North America at that time, and very few people in the New Madrid region, the estimated magnitudes of this series of earthquakes vary considerably and depend on modern researchers' interpretations of journals, newspaper reports, and other accounts of the ground shaking and damage. The magnitudes of the three principal earthquakes of 1811-1812 described below are the preferred values taken from research involved with producing the 2008 USGS National Seismic Hazard Map (pubs.usgs.gov
