  • Klan War for Segregation in 1963 Haven to the South's most violent Ku Klux Klan chapter, Birmingham was probably the most segregated city in the country. Dozens of unsolved bombings and police killings had terrorized the black community since World War II. On Sunday, 15th September, 1963, a white man was seen getting out of a white and turquoise Chevrolet car and placing a box under the steps of the Six***th Street Baptist Church. Soon afterwards, at 10.22 am, the bomb exploded killing Denise McNair (11), Addie Mae Collins (14), Carole Robertson (14) and Cynthia Wesley (14). The four girls had been attending Sunday school classes at the church. Twenty-three other people were also hurt by the blast. Both women got on a bus, and both women were attacked by two Orthodox Jews for - in one event, sitting next to him in a seat that is reserved for elderly people, and on the other, for sitting at the same kind of seat, in a "separated" line. Now, before I go on I'll explain what meticulous lines are and why they exist in the first place According to Orthodox Judaism, a woman is bad influence and can cause men to stray from their ways; meaning, they won't pray, or that they will be aroused by her, god forbid. That can be caused by either a woman being in the same room with them, or, sitting next to them in public transportation, for that matter. In some cities in Israel it is common to find separated lines, where women - just like in good ol' apartheid days, sit in the back whilst men sit in the front - for the comfort of the Orthodox Jews public. That is, even though ...

  • WTF!!!?US Senate Apologizes For Slavery & Segregation For First Time Negro is a term referring to people of Black ancestry. Prior to the shift in the lexicon of American and worldwide classification of race and ethnicity in the late 1960s, the appellation was accepted as a normal completely neutral formal term both by those of Black African descent as well as those of non-African black descent. Because the term was objected to by the African American leader Malcolm X, by the late 1960s, it came to be considered as being an ethnic slur.[1][2] The term is now considered archaic and is not commonly used as a racist slur. The term is still used in some contexts for historical reasons such as in the name of the United Negro College Fund.[3][4] "Negro" means "black" in Spanish, Portuguese, and ancient Italian[5]; all of these derive from the Latin niger (ie, "black"). • Banksy - Israel's Segregation Wall "The segregation wall is a disgrace... The possibility I find exciting is you could turn the world's most invasive and degrading structure into the world's longest gallery of free speech and bad art..." - Banksy In 2004 the international court of justice declared the wall illegal and against international law and that all contruction should be stopped immediatley. The international court ruled -the construction and its associated regime was contrary to international law; -Israel was under obligation to cease construction and dismantle the wall; -Israel should compensate owners of land seized to construct the barrier and those harmed by the barrier; -all states are under obligation not to recognise the situation and ensure Israel's compliance with international law; -the UN should consider what further action to take. In the same year a United Nations general assembly resolution was passed demanding Israel comply with the world court and dismantle and compensate all Palestinians affected by the wall's construction. The resolution was passed with 150 to 6. Israel and the United States being among the states that voted against the resolution. Israel has yet to comply with any demands made by the UN, the world court, the intternational courst of justice or human rights watch.

  • 8. Nash equilibrium: location, segregation and randomization Game Theory (ECON 159) We first complete our discussion of the candidate-voter model showing, in particular, that, in equilibrium, two candidates cannot be too far apart. Then we play and ***yze Schelling's location game. We discuss how segregation can occur in society even if no one desires it. We also learn that seemingly irrelevant details of a model can matter. We consider randomizations first by a central authority (such as in a bussing policy), and then decentralized randomization by the individuals themselves, "mixed strategies." Finally, we look at rock, paper, scissors to see an example of a mixed-strategy equilibrium to a game. Complete course materials are available at the Open Yale Courses website: This course was recorded in Fall 2007.
