  • NASA | Satellites View Growing Gulf Oil Spill (Update: 7/14/2010) Two NASA satellites are capturing images of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which began April 20, 2010 with the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. This short video reveals a space-based view of the burning oil rig and, later, the resulting spread of the oil spill. This version updates a previous version of the video through July 14th. The timelapse uses imagery from the MODIS instrument, on board NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. The oil slick appears grayish-beige in the image and changes due to changing weather, currents, and use of oil dispersing chemicals. The oil slick only appears clearly in MODIS imagery when the sun is aa particular angle in relation to the satellite's position as it orbits over the Gulf. In areas where sunlight reflects off the ocean's surface toward the satellite, oil-slicked water usually looks brighter than cleaner ocean water in the region. (no narration, music only) This video can be downloaded in full resolution at: svs.gsfc.nasa.gov Images in this video times series were selected that show the spill most clearly. • Spy Satellites used to Control American Citizens! - Alex Jones Tv Spy Satellites Used to Control American Citizens Kurt Nimmo and Alex Jones www.prisonplanet.tv August 31, 2010 According to the CNN report below, the government will use satellites "sparingly" to spy on the American people. However, as and Prison have reported at least since 2007, the government has used this technology consistently to prey into the affairs of the citizenry. Spy satellite technology — lasers, infrared, electromagnetic data and other technologies — is a primary component in the police state control and surveillance grid. The technology was not designed to protect us from foreign terrorists. In 2007, then director of National Intelligence, Michael McConnell, authorized Michael Chertoff's Department of Homeland Security to use data collected from satellites and pass this information on to civilian agencies and law enforcement. Prior to this, we are told, access to only the most basic spy-satellite data was limited to a handful of federal civilian agencies, such as NASA and the US Geological Survey, which used the images for scientific and environmental study. So egregious was the plan to spy on the American people, the Department of Homeland Security's top intelligence, privacy and civil rights officials were called before Congress in August of 2007 to answer questions about violating the privacy rights of Americans. DHS never got around to creating a legal framework or standard operating procedures for the National ...

  • Life-Saving Satellites Science & Reason on Facebook: NASA GOES: Life-Saving Satellites - Search And Rescue: Saved By A Weather Satellite --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • • • • --- When weather struck ... His only chance for survival, was a signal sent to space just before he was dragged under water. Denniss emergency beacon activated and transmitted a distress signal triggering a chain reaction into an intricate Search And Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking System that has been saving lives since 1982. NASA, NOAA, the US Air Force, and the US Coast Guard are working together to eliminate this search, out of search and rescue to reduce the amount of time to reach victims in distress. There have been over twenty seven thousand people saved by this system, many of which were been done by the GOES satellites. The GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites) weather satellites have the ability to constantly oversee a large area of the Earth, and send real time data to users. Every country that can see the GOES satellite is able to pick up the distress down link. The beacon goes of and sends a message out to whoever can hear it. A GOES satellite if its in view of the beacon will see it and then itll take that message and just relay it, repeat it back down to the ground. If the distress is from an old beacon, which does not transmit its own location, then the GOES satellites provide an immediate alert ...
