Vincent Van Gogh Vincent Willem van Gogh (Dutch: faŋˈxɔx listen (help·info), or English: ˌvæn ˈɡɒx,[note 1] 30 March 1853 -- 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art for its vivid colors and emotional impact. Julian Wild - 'System No. 30' London based artist, Julian Wild has been commissioned to make one of this years residency projects at Sculpture in the Parklands in the bog lands of Co.Offaly. Over the last 2 years Julian has gleaned pieces of metal scrap from the Bord na Mona workshops in Lough Boora. He sees the process as a kind of archaeology in which each old cog and piece of metal tells part of the story of the industrial heritage of the site. Welding these scraps of peat wagons and cutting machinery together, the artist will construct an 18 metre long sculpture in a c*** at the site. The concept is to create a disk that appears to bounce over the surface of the c***, like a skimming stone. The disk is held in the air by a trajectory trail of scrap that it leaves behind. Since 2003 Julian has been making a series of works called Systems. These works are sequentially numbered. The numerical order of the series is partly an attempt to de-romanticise the titling process and partly to encourage the viewer to focus on their response to the work. You see, we've noticed almost everywhere that we've been in Italy that there are some very large doors and many, large or not, are adorned with ornate and often large knockers. This is certainly true (the knockers that is) of the places we've been visiting this week. We've been staying the week in a Tuscan Villa and using it as our base we've visited, Florence, Sienna and several times San Gimignano and Cetraldo which are just a few kilometres down our windy road. The countryside is everything that you ever here about Tuscany and many brilliant writers will have captured it better than I. With spring in the air everything about us has the feel of renewal. The fields are tinged and fresh looking as new crops add green and gold to the blue skies with wisps of white cloud overhead. The tidy rows of grape vines, here interspersed with groves of olive trees, make it easy to imagine you could fall in love with staying and I suppose finding that terracotta coloured farmhouse to live in. Si Bheag Si Mhor A lovely old Irish Folk tune by Turlough O'Carolan. For somebody very special. This is said to have been O'Carolan's first song. The title translates as "The little fairy hill and the big fairy hill" and is said to be based upon a local legend about a war between two fairy armies. This is an arrangement by Keith Chappell who plays this in related vids on acoustic and beautifully. Thanks Keith. I tend to play things slower and over-romanticise in all I play. With this I hope it hasn't lost it's Celtic feel.

The End of the American Dream - Death of Democracy In this interview on Canadian television Chris Hedges basically states that American democracy is dead and that only 'a revolution of the people' can restore the USA to democratic values. Since this is extremely unlikely, America will further degenerate, and end up as a semi-fascist corporate state, probably culminating in a right-wing backlash in the form of ***-like purges against Muslims, immigrants and other minority groups. And, of course, there will be more endless wars on defenceless nations to boost the arms industry and divert attention from the internal rot. Maybe the Americans should learn from the Egyptians rather than vice versa!

Vincent van Gogh's Art - From 1882 to 1890 Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 -- 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art for its vivid colors and emotional impact. He suffered from anxiety and increasingly frequent bouts of mental illness throughout his life and died, largely unknown, at the age of 37 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cricket Art Prize Promo Jan10 A Cricket Art Prize painting is a composition depicting life in and around the game of cricket in settings of backyard, beach, social or local club cricket. This annual cricket art competition offers cash prizes to the winning artist, Highly Commended and Peoples' Choice awards with international exposure for the finalists in the travelling exhibition. Cricket, in all its forms has inspired the arts over the ages, most of which romanticise and celebrate the game. Painters and poets have used cricket as the vehicle to unsettle preconceptions, generate new ideas and challenge our contemporary culture. More importantly, cricket and the arts bring people of all backgrounds and nationalities together. The organisers received 232 entries and the judges selected 32 of those paintings to assemble the exhibition in the Members Pavilion at the SCG in October 2009. Entries will be accepted in 2010 from any citizen residing in a full member registered ICC country ie - Australia, England & Wales, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe who create and complete their work in the 12 months leading up to the closing date - 1st September 2010. Recording of the voice of Vincent Van Gogh! THis is truly unbelievable! I was searching on YouTube and then i found a recording of Vincent Van Gogh, the greatest painter of all time. I downloaded it using some program but then it was taken offline only minutes after that. I re-uploaded it here wit the translation for everybody to listen too. Its all in dutch but maybe somebody from Holland can translate this? This was recorded when Vincent was with his brother Theo in Paris, somewhere around 1890.
