  • Virtual Dive: Remora l l Scuba Diving l Florida l Fort Lauderdale l Ft Lauderdale l Pompano l Miami l Key Largo l Keys l Bahamas Get up close with the Remora, as it tries to attach itself to our cameraman. Typically, Remoras like to attach themselves to bigger sea creatures, like sharks, mantas, and whales, so they can get free transportation and protection. Also, it benefits from the left over scaps not consumed by the bigger animal. Free transportation, protection, and food? Nice plan. However, this Remora tries to attach itself to our cameraman. Notice the suction/gripping area on the topside of the Remora's head. It is very hard and extremely painful to remove an attached Remora from bare skin. Fortunately, the cameraman kept the camera between himself and the Remora. Notice that even after we exit the water, the Remora still pursues us. • Turtles and Remoras of Marsa Dabbab Very large turtles inhabit the seegrass beds near the beach at Marsa Dabbab near Marsa Alam in Egypt. They graze the seegrass without taking mutch notice of divers and snorklers watching them. A lot of them are accompanied by one or more remoras (shark suckers). We've seen at least 10 of these big turtles during one dive. Some of them are on the video.

  • The Remoras - Apple Canyon, Northwest Island, Capricornia Cays (Great Barrier Reef) Two Remoras we saw at Apple Canyon - Northwest Island, Capricornia Cays on the January '08 Reef Trip. I thought they were baby reef sharks at first, but looking them up I found out they are actually called remoras, and stick to large animals/boats with a sucker on their head! They use this ability to hitch a ride and swim far, far, away! These two were really curious but stayed close to each other at all times! :D UNSW Underwater Club January Reef Trip '08

  • The friendly remora Most people consider remoras to be no-good hangers-on, sponging off well-meaning marine megafauna. But on a recent Georgia Aquarium research trip to Mexico to study whale sharks, one of the staff divers, Elliott Jessup, had an incredible encounter with one of the most inquisitive fish any of us have ever seen, and scientist/videographer Bruce Carlson caught the whole thing in HD. The waters were full of whale sharks and their attendant remoras, when this little guy took a real liking to Elliott, even attaching to his butt, and eating his hair. • Outdoor Forklift magnetic sweeper - Remoras Series by Bluestreak Equipment This hanging magnetic sweeper is different from most because it has a protective cage around it for severe off road conditions. This magnet was installed on this outdoor forklift to pickup debris all day long while the forklift was driven at this concrete yard. This outdoor storage yard had big ruts where the products were stored in rows and the magnet had withstand hitting the ground each time the forklift placed a product in the row for storage or withdrew a product for shipment. And it had to do this year round. The Remoras's protective steel cage, and UHMW runners take the abuse and keep the magnet safe from damage. The Remoras magnet picks up a 2 1/2" nail from 8" (inches) above the ground. Picking up the debris has kept the forklifts from getting flat tires as well as the trucks that have to enter the yard for loading.
  • Military Remoras Military men are chosen to do work. Military remoras are chosen to fill quotas. Military men work hard and paid decently. Military remoras work far less and are paid equally. Do not take my word for it. I am just "some *** who hates women". So ask ANY military man that you know; but ask him when you two are alone. Otherwise, if he tells you the truth, then he risks being charged with a crime. Military men CANNOT say that military remoras are underworked and overpaid. That would be "***ist". And that "***ism" would be a crime, under the UCMJ, because it would "undermine unit morale or cohesion". Military men are chosen to do work. Military remoras are chosen to fill quotas. Military men work hard and are paid decently. Military remoras work far less and are paid equally. Military women are allowed to be lazy.

  • Red Sea diving - Turtle eating sea grass in Marsa Abu Dabab - Remoras on the back This is a video I shot diving in abu dabab, not far from Marsa Alam. I had a base at Marsa Nakari Eco lodge. This sandy bottom has sea grass which attracts turtles, several of them are feeding here. You can also see the remoras on the back. I'm a little bit worried about the amount of divers and snorklers at this site. We saw a snorkler breaking off corals, tried to warn him but he didn't pay attention. Hopefully the place won't get too crowded and scare away people, but there is a hotel located on the beach so it will continue. The turtles didn't seem to mind the divers, but some got interrupted in the meal and moved away if they got surrounded. There are reefs on each side of the marsa(natural bay), we went diving on the south one and it was good, even saw a stone fish. When I was shooting this I was paying more attention to looking at it rather than through the screen on the camera. The video was shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 with underwater housing.
