Thea Gilmore: My Voice (another montage video) Here's a video made by me for Thea's new song, which she released to the public Sunday morning, accompanied by a handful of still images - the salient ones of which are used here, along with footage from old election broadcasts (copyright BBC), footage from the ITV debate, some shots of polling stations (copyright ITN) and footage of the disgraceful sight of voters being turned away at Sheffield. And just to make it seem like an actual music video, some live handheld camera footage of Thea herself. The last two are presumably copyright whoever held the camera at the time. The video quality varies wildly from ITN-crisp to a brief period in the middle eight in which we're being remonstrated at by a cloud of translucent squares. Thea has said several times before that she has little to no interest in music videos, which I understand but still think is a bit of a shame. "That'll Be Christmas", for example, could have been a much bigger hit with a better video (what we got was some slightly shaky black and white V/T of her and her band in front of a black curtain with tinsel). I mean, I know she's not interested in hit singles, but anything to brighten the damn charts up, you know? Cremation Customs Pollute Ganges River The Ganga in Allahabad is being polluted by the tradition of immersing cremated corpses. When Ajeet was in the 9th Standard, he had himself participated in the Hindu custom of immersing the dead in the Ganga river, which is considered holy. "That time, I didn't think about it. I was upset that my cousin had died and I didn't realize what I was doing. But now, I have many environmentalist friends who told me that I can't drink water from the Ganga anymore because it is so polluted. They explained all the things that people are doing which are making the waters dirty. I felt so bad." Although there is a law in place to avoid further pollution of the river waters, it has never been enforced. It is because of ignorance on the part of the community and apathy on the part of the police that no one has been charged, fined or even remonstrated with. Ajeet says,"The law has to be enforced, yes, but not only be the police. Everyone who bathes in the river, who drinks its water, has to realize what they are doing. They should burn their bodies in a crematorium so that the remains are disposed of properly." Ajeet's own family partakes in this tradition. He says he has tried to convince them many times but they won't listen. "It is up to us who know better to keep trying. It's an ongoing process. I've realized that these traditions cause more bad than good, so I've stopped doing them. Hopefully others will also realize this."

Police officials in Seattle have launched an investigation into the conduct of an officer after he was filmed punching a ***age girl in the face. Officer Ian Walsh was trying to arrest another girl for jaywalking when he lashed out as the second girl remonstrated with him. Officials said they have a "number of concerns" over the officer's actions, which was captured on several mobile phone cameras. "The issue we have to investigate is whether the force he used is reasonable given the combative resistance he was facing," Assistant Seattle Police Chief Nick Metz said. "And we're not going to pass judgement on that until the matter has been thoroughly investigated." According to a police statement, an officer stopped a ***age male after he walked across a street instead of using a footbridge, and while talking to him four girls jaywalked at the same spot. Walsh, 39, alleged the group was "verbally antagonistic" and events escalated when the 19-year-old girl, Marilyn Levias, tried to walk away. The younger girl tried to intervene as Walsh attempted to handcuff Levias, and as the officer struggled to contain the situation he eventually lashed out and hit the 17-year-old girl with a single blow to the face. Louth fans attack referee after controversial goal - Louth vs Meath Leinster football final 2010 Meath 1-12 Louth 1-10: Shameful scenes marred the conclusion of today's Leinster football final as Louth were controversially denied a first provincial title since 1957. A hugely contentious goal handed Meath the title deep into injury time, whereupon a number of Louth fans attempted to attack match referee Martin Sludden. As the match entered the third and final minute of injury time, Louth led by a single point and were on course for a famous win. But when Meath launched one final assault on the Louth goal, the ball found its way to Joe Sheridan inside the square. In a scramble of bodies, the Meath forward appeared to roll over the line with the ball in hand before simply throwing it into the net. Sludden and his umpires failed to spot the infraction and the referee allowed the goal to stand, prompting furious reactions from the Louth players, management and supporters. When he blew up for full time moments later, Sludden required a Garda escort off the Croke Park pitch as at least four different fans remonstrated with the official and aimed blows in his direction.
