If Atheists Acted Religious I doubt many religious people could stomach a taste of their own medicine. I've known people who got fired when it was discovered that they were an atheist. Atheists are one of the last groups that it is still okay to discriminate against (not only okay, but encouraged). A major reason for this is because religion cannot hold up to our criticisms; therefore, censoring us becomes the only viable solution. The truth offends. Everyone who did audio in this animation is VERY much worth your subscription. Roger Federer as Religious Experience "If you've never seen [Roger Federer] play live, and then do, in person, on the sacred grass of Wimbledon, ... you are apt to have what one of the tournament's press bus drivers describes as a "bloody near-religious experience." It may be tempting, at first, to hear a phrase like this as just one more of the overheated tropes that people resort to to describe the feeling of Federer Moments. But the driver's phrase turns out to be true — literally, for an instant ecstatically." -- David Foster Wallace, from the special to New York Times' Play Magazine, "Roger Federer as Religious Experience" "To bear witness ... is to evoke some sort of spiritual experience that occurs only a handful of times in a lifetime - if you're lucky. To try to describe the way Federer plays tennis is like trying to describe how Nureyev danced or Heifetz played the violin. Common words or images cannot do justice." --The Age "Part of the pleasure of the Federer experience comes from watching people watch him. On Sunday, a spectator is propelled by awe out of his seat when confronted by a short cross-court forehand that lands and runs almost parallel to the net. Later, a fellow simply bows in Federer's direction, as if applause is an unsatisfactory response. ... Some sigh, exhale, cry "Oh my God". It is an opera of exclamation. Cynics who believe they have seen everything need to watch Federer. ... How, how, we ask, as if mind is still disputing what the eyes have seen. With other players, even in ...

Neil deGrasse Tyson stops a religious troll At the end of the Q&A period after Tyson and Dawkins' magnificent presentation "The Poetry of Science", this douchebag troll (who refused to sit and insisted on getting his "question" out) tries to bait Dawkins/Tyson into a religious discussion with the mildly retarded question about what they would do when they're about to die with nothing to console themselves but their knowledge of science (implying that they're incomplete without the source of origin:god). Dawkins passed the opportunity for retort to Tyson, who answers in a fantastically poetic way.
Thanksgiving Religious Debate - All in the Family This is a selection of clips from an episode of America's most popular TV show of the 1970's - All in the Family. The episode was in Season 6 and was titled 'The Little Atheist'. In this episode, Mike Stivic (an atheist) and his wife Gloria are expecting a baby and they are adamant about letting the child decide for itself whether it will follow a religion or not. Gloria's father, Archie Bunker, has other ideas, and at Thanksgiving dinner an argument ensues. Enjoy. You can find the whole episode in three parts here: My US subscribers will no doubt be familiar with the show, but for the benefit of my non-US subs and younger subs who don't know much about the show, here is the wikipedia link: Mike and Archie often had humorous religious debates on the show, and if this video does well, I will post more of them.

Atheist Life vs Religious Life Some argue that religious life is the best way to live. They claim life without a god is sad and depressing. Statements like "I could not imagine my life without God", and "My life would be meaningless without God", are common defenses for a religious life. The following is a list of advantages atheists enjoy over a religious life. I invite the religious viewers to submit a response video with the advantages of a religious life. Atheists can make moral decisions based on the specific context. Having absolutes like "Though Shall not Lie" stops people from thinking for themselves and making the right decision based on the situation at hand. In what situation would be okay to lie? Most religious people would say, never. Atheists would disagree. For example: If you were living in Germany hiding Jews in your attic during the holocaust, and Hitler's ***s knocked on your door and asked if you were hiding Jews, would it be okay to lie to save the lives of the Jews in your attic? I believe trying to save their lives would the moral and proper choice. Atheists have the power to do what's right for all humanity, rather than the forced perspective of doing what is right for a god. Atheists can experience healthy outrage at the outrageous without fear of questioning God's plan. We can be outraged when a friend dies of a horrible disease, or is killed in a car accident. It is okay to be upset at disasters and horrible events. It is not a part of any plan. It is just a horrible event ...

Several of Mark's YouTube videos have went viral, earning him a mention on ABC's The View, Fox News' O'Reilly Factor, , and other mainstream media outlets. He also habitually calls into several top-rated talk shows, including the Sean Hannity Show, Glenn Beck, and Michael Savage, and verbally battles with the hosts on various issues since he has never been asked to be a guest on them as of yet. Christopher Hitchens vs. Religious Right The Decadence of American Conservatism: The Religious Right Gets it Wrong A modern American Christian is altogether a different creature than the original faithful in ancient Palestine. This is a rather straight point but the fact that these people who claim to know and represent this Jesus cannot even think on this is a sign of the bankruptcy and intellectual dishonesty of this unexamined movement. It lacks "metacognition" the ability to think about itself in context and instead relys on the narrow limitations of its immediate surroudings. The decadence of American conservatism is that it has traded away its internal integrity for a play at power to force a standard of living on others that it fails to uphold in its own homes and congregations. It resembles not the historical Jesus or the New Testament version but a Jesus that is somehow an english speaking American that revels in power politics and money making schemes. Charlatans and political power lead the way to the frugal and passive Nazarene? One of the ironies of the Bush political system and use of the religious right is that its master mind is an agnostic by the name of Karl Rove. The hypocrisy is there to see but there is also another injustice. The murder of wisdom for the sake of the appearance of morality. So much wisdom is censored in the cause of this puritan instinct that aims to hide from human reality and break the mirrors that reflect ugly truths. To the christianist the ...

Rabbi David Novak on Religious Freedom berkleycenter.georgetown.edu January 21, 2010 | William James once quipped that "in this age of toleration," no one "will ever try actively to interfere with our religious faith, provided we enjoy it quietly with our friends and do not make a public nuisance of it." Unfortunately -- at least for the privatizers and the secularists -- religion is a very public matter for a simple reason most religions make definitive moral claims that implicate the common good. So says Rabbi David Novak in his new book about religious liberty, why it is endangered, and why it should be protected. His is not, however, a book about attacks on religious freedom in Saudi Arabia or China. It is about liberal democracies such as the United States and Canada, where religious actors and institutions are increasingly vulnerable because of their public dissent to emerging laws and norms on issues like same-*** marriage. Novak, a Professor of Jewish Studies and Philosophy at the University of Toronto, discussed the perils and the remedies - including the need to ground democratic religious liberty once again (as did America's founders) in divine law. To discuss this important new book, the Berkley Center featured a vigorous discussion between Novak, William Galston of the Brookings Institution, and George Weigel of the Ethics and Public Policy Center. The event was moderated by the Berkley Center's Thomas Farr. David Novak holds the J. Richard and Dorothy Shiff Chair of Jewish Studies as Professor of ...

Religulous (Trailer) with Bill Maher In Theaters October 3rd Known for his stance against religion, Bill Maher's views on the various world religions are explored as he travels to numerous religious destinations, such as Jerusalem, the Vatican, and Salt Lake City, interviewing believers from a variety of backgrounds and groups, including Jews for Jesus, Muslims, polygamists, Satanists, Hasidic scholars and even Rael of the Raelian Movement.[2][3] In the trailer and documentary Maher also interviews research neuroscientist Andrew Newberg, MD, (author of Why We Believe What We Believe) who brain-scans people at the University of Pennyslvania as they pray, meditate and speak in tongues. The documentary was produced by Thousand Words and is being distributed by Lionsgate. Originally slated for intentional release date coinciding with the religious Easter holiday 2008, post-production delays resulting from a screenwriters guild strike pushed the release date back to July 11, 2008.[4] Release has now been pushed back to October 3, 2008.[5]
