"If you need to know one thing about this bill, it's that it would make it official government policy to bail out the biggest Wall Street banks," said McConnell. Dodd rose to set the record straight on McConnell's claims today. "Suggesting somehow that there's a bailout provision in this bill -- nothing could be further from the truth," Dodd explained. "The bill, as drafted, ends bailouts. Nothing could be more clear in the legislation. And let me tell you how we do it...This bill imposes tougher standards on large, risky Wall Street firms. It eliminates the federal government's capacity to bail out financial companies and it requires that the financial firms write their own shut down plans an even pay for the liquidation process if it's needed."

  • Does 1Timothy 2:4 Refute Calvinism? (James White) First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1Ti 2:1-4) "GOD WILL HAVE ALL MEN TO BE SAVED! READ 1TIM 2:4!" It's one of the "big three" verses that are often used to say that God has no particularity in His dispensation of grace. James White shows from Scripture that this argument is taken out of context and is not verifiable when one exegetes the verse. Special thanks to James White (DrOakley1689) for allowing me to post this.

  • Refuting Theist Arguments - Negative Proof Many theists will often fall back on a few common arguments when they cannot refute an atheist's points and counter-points. This video is about one argument that theists often fall back on: The 'You can't prove that God doesn't exist, so god exists' argument. The problem with this argument is that it is a negative proof fallacy. The fallacy of appealing to lack of proof of the negative follows the following basic form: X is true, because there is no proof that X is false. Examples of arguments that are based on this fallacy: -Superman exists because you can't prove that he doesn't. -Pink elephants exist because you can't prove that they don't. -Sentient hot dogs exist, because you can't prove that they do not. From these basic counter-examples we can clearly see why appealing to lack of proof of the negative is a logical fallacy. This also brings up another extremely important point: the burden of proof. It is important to remember that the burden of proof rests with the individual who makes the claim. EX. If I claim that pink elephants exist, then I am the one who has to prove that they exist. The burden of proof is not on everyone else to disprove my claim; the burden is on he who makes the claim (me). The same applies to God (or any other claim). If someone asserts or claims that their God is real, then it is up to them to provide proof. Other individuals do not have to disprove such a claim; the person who makes the claim has to prove it. To all theists who use the ...

  • Refuting Theist Arguments - Why Atheism is Not a Religion Refuting Theist Arguments -- Why Atheism is Not a Religion Often times, theists will make the claim that "Atheism is a religion." Over the next few minutes I will show why this claim is absurd. Lets' examine one definition of religion (this definition is fairly typical): Religion: 1a. Belief in and reference for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator or governor of the universe b. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief -- American Heritage Dictionary (fourth edition) Clearly atheists do not believe in a supernatural power or powers. So, by this definition, atheism is not a religion. That was too easy... Let's broaden our search and examine the criteria that are common to most definitions of religion: 1.) Belief in one or more supernatural forces -Atheists do not believe in any supernatural forces 2.) Belief in one or more gods and/or goddesses -Obviously, atheists do not believe in any deities 3.) A system of shared beliefs and practices -There are no beliefs or practices that are universal to all atheists 4.) A shared set of moral values -Atheists do not have a shared set of moral values As we can see, even when we broaden our criteria, atheism is not a religion. Atheism is not a political, social, moral, or philosophical system... There are no beliefs, practices, rituals, etc. that are inherently tied to atheism. Atheism does not prescribe any beliefs, rituals, practices, morals, political values, etc However, this in no way means ...
  • How to Refute Evolution It's not likely one will refute evolution without first understanding it, because those brain-washed, fanatical scientists keep demanding things like physical evidence. If current evidence already refutes evolution, it should be a simple matter to locate that evidence and explain it without sounding like an idiot. How to Refute Evolution Creationists, including ID Creationists, are committed to destroying evolution and materialism and announce smugly, loudly, and vehemently that existing evidence refutes it. There's a lot of hooting and hollering about all their silver bullets, but among qualified scientists, their penetrating insights are greeted with either rolling eyes or utter astonishment that someone so thoroughly ignorant would have the audacity to make such loudly and obviously ignorant pronouncements and expect to be taken seriously. In short, while the creationists have been moderately successful at rousing the choir to sing Hallelujah, their progress among scientists has been almost non-existent. An intelligent observer might wonder if maybe the actual scientists know a little more about ***yzing scientific data than preachers ranting from the pulpit. But that observer has been taken in by his own intelligence, because all those scientists are really deluded. A magical being has interfered with their judgment, because they are only looking for physical evidence and honest investigators have to consider even the magical evidence and the magical explanation. At ...

  • Sh Salih Al Fawzaan Praises Sh Rabee's Refutation Of Qutb Sh Salih Al Fawzaan Praises Sh Rabee's Refutation Of Sayyid Qutb. Question: Is the statement of one who says that: "Whoever refutes the Ahlul-Bid'ah is considered a mujaahid in the Path of Allaah" - is this statement correct or not? Response: Yes. The one who refutes the Ahlul-Bid'ah (people of innovation) is a mujaahid, and there is no doubt about this. Since when Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal was told about a man who fasts, and offers salaah, and gives in charity, and performs the i'tikaaf, and does (other) good deeds, and was (then) told about a man who refutes the innovators - implying which of the two was better? He (Imaam Ahmad) said: ((Whoever offers salaah and fasts and gives in charity and performs i'tikaaf, then (all of) this is for himself, and as for he who refutes the innovators, then this is for (the benefit of) the people)). So there is no doubt that whoever refutes the innovators is better, and the statements of the 'ulamaa. regarding this are many. Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmee al-Fataawa al-Jaliyyah 'anil-Manaahij ad-Da'wiyyah - Page 24, Question 29 Shaikh Rabee said in his book: Destoying the false claims of Abdul Lateef Bashmeel: I visited Shaikh Ibn Baz and he advised me to refute anyone who has conflicted with the truth and what a beautiful and great advice and how compulsory it is upon those who have the ability to do so
  • Ron Hatch: Using GPS to Refute the Equivalence Principle - Part 1 The GPS system along with other experimental evidence is used to refute the equivalence principle. The paper is divided into three major parts followed at the end by a short section which deals with a look at some as yet unexplained experimental data. The first major section looks at the equivalence principle in the light of "falling" electromagnetic radiation. In this first section the equivalence principle is defined and the arguments of Einstein, Feynman and Clifford Will are presented. Each of the arguments is refuted and the GPS evidence plays a significant role in that refutation. The section is closed with a strange quote from the "GPS Bible" regarding the equivalence principle. This quote is followed by a transitional argument to the next section using two clocks, fore and aft, in an accelerating rocket. The second major section deals with the relationship of the equivalence principle to infinitesimal Lorentz Transformations (ILTs). Goldstein, Meisner Thorne and Wheeler, Muller, and Ashby and Spilker are quoted in support of ILTs. Goy provides a valid alternative to the ILTs. The difference between ILTs and the "clock hypothesis" of Goy is explored. Evidence from multiple sources (including GPS) is cited in support of the clock hypothesis. This evidence contradicts ILTs. The section is closed with the suggestion for a fairly simple experiment which could remove any doubt as to the validity (or lack thereof) of the ILTs. The third major section returns to the ...

  • RE: Refuting YouTube Atheist Myth (Round Two) (Actually doing more to refute yourself, Brock.) Another response to more of the verbose yet vacuous claims made by Brock Lawley, aka TheAtheistAndidote. On a less venomous tone, Brock has finally manned up and unblocked me. We'll see how long that lasts. It'll depend on how much a beating his falsely inflated ego can handle. On a side note, we know that Christian apologists commonly commit a variety of fallacies in their attempt to denigrate other faiths and atheists, but the one that Brock is most guilty of is argumentum verbosium. Using ( or Proof by intimidation if you want to look it up on Wikipedia). From Wiki: Argumentum verbosium Proof by verbosity is also used colloquially in forensic debate to describe a logical fallacy (sometimes called argumentum verbosium) that tries to persuade by overwhelming the reader or listener with such a volume of material that a proposition sounds plausible, superficially appears to be well-researched, or is so laborious to untangle and check that the proposition is allowed to slide by unchallenged. It is the fallacy epitomized by WC Fields' statement, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull."[citation needed] TheAtheistAntidote, Brock's video:

  • Refuting Creationist Arguments - Mutations In this video I will address some of the misconceptions, lies, and other false claims made by creationists regarding mutations. Due to time constraints I will only be addressing the most commonly used creationist arguments regarding mutations. Throughout this video I will use superscripted numbers to indicate sources. At the end of the video I will list my references; the superscripted numbers will correspond to particular sources Claim 1: Mutations are Rare Actually mutations are fairly common. Consider the following facts: -In humans, the average mutation rate per genome per replication is 0.0041. -We must also take into consideration that the mutation rate may actually be higher than this, because mutations with very small effects may be hard to detect. -This number may seem small to some people, but consider the following: -- in humans, the number of cell divisions prior to sperm formation in a male of age 30 is about 4002. -- This works out to about 1.6 mutations per sperm cell. -Including neutral mutations, each human zygote has approximately 64 new mutations1. -Also, mutation rates are generally higher, and life cycles shorter, in lower organisms. This is why bacteria, and other lower organisms, evolve faster than humans do. -Even if many of these mutations occur in 'junk' DNA (by some estimates 'junk' DNA accounts for 90% of human DNA2), mutations are not nearly as rare as many creationists would like people to believe. Claim 2: Most Mutations are Harmful Most ...

  • Refuting Theist Arguments - Why People are Religious Refuting Theist Arguments -- Why People are Religious In this video I will touch on a few of the reasons why religious individuals stay religious. This video will not deal with the genesis of religion; it only deals with why religious individuals remain religious in modern societies. Due to time constraints I will not go too far into each point. It is also important to note that this list is not comprehensive, and not all of these reasons will apply to all theists. 1) Social Evolutionary Reasons --Beliefs that, in the past, were the biggest sources of pride, promoted group cohesion, and enabled the culture to survive, are the beliefs that people are least willing to surrender. This makes perfect sense from an evolutionary perspective; but societies have now evolved to the point that religion is no longer needed. In fact, religion creates conflict and group mentalities; not peace and cooperation. 2) Other Social Reasons --Many people have been falsely taught that religion is the only source of 'moral behavior.' Many theists act as if there is no way for people to be moral without religion. This is false. Codes of morality existed long before any of the major modern religions. Morality evolved to support human survival, religions just borrowed preexisting moral concepts. --Many theists are reluctant to give up their religion because of their family, friends, and peer groups. They are afraid of being shunned by their loved ones. They are afraid of losing valuable social ...
  • EU Parliamentarians openly refute claims by Kadeer During a discussion hosted by the European Parliament's Sub-Committee on Human Rights, European Parliament members refuted claims of leader of the World Uygur Congress, Rebiya Kadeer, regarding Xinjiang independence, and pointed out "the Chinese government's preferential policies for ethnic minorities and the numerous and newly built mosques to guarantee Islamic religious beliefs." Nirj Deva, a British member of the European Parliament, said he was confused as Kadeer's personal experience ran counter to her accusations. "How is it possible for her to become one of the richest women in China if she has been discriminated? If her human rights were trampled, is it possible for her to become a member of the Chinese National Committee of the Political Consultative Conference, which is one of the highest bodies of China's national assembly?" Deva added: "If the Uygur language is banned, how could Kadeer speak it so fluently today?" he said. Charles Tannock, now European Parliament member and former Vice-President of the Human Rights Subcommittee of the Parliament, also pointed out the Chinese government's preferential policies for ethnic minorities and the numerous and newly built mosques to guarantee Islamic religious beliefs in China, and added that "the European Parliament should not support separatist forces inside China or any sponsored extremist religious organizations." Kadeer was reminded by EU Parliamentarians that Chinese government policies allowed her to achieve ...

Unfortunately his name isn't uncommon, which in this day is a great disadvantage. It's hard to separate all the references; for example there was a Pre-Rapaelite painter of the same name, also a high street chain of gentlemen's tailors and many others. I suppose when we name the kid we have to think these days, "Is that name distinctive enough to Google?" This story was written in 1940. I had to cut a couple of minutes to shorten it to ten. The terrible fate of sinners at the hands of the Devil was painted as "The Last Judgement" in The Scrovegni Chapel, about 1305 by Giotto - properly called Giotto di Bondone.
  • Refuting Theist Arguments - Why Atheists Care About Religion Refuting Theist Arguments -- Why Atheists Care About Religion I am often asked by theists: "If you don't believe in any gods or supernatural forces, then why do you care about religion?" Sometimes it seems like they are just tired of debating and want to find a polite way to tell me to get lost. Sometimes they seem genuinely perplexed. I cannot speak for all atheists, but I can explain why I care about religion. In this video I will give a few of the reasons why I, as an atheist, care about religion. I will not present all of the reasons why I care, due to time constraints, but here are some of the major reasons. Note: I will only provide one or two examples for each reason that I present. I could provide a plethora of examples for each point, but, yet again, time constraints apply. It is also important to note that not all of these reasons will apply to all religions. Reason 1: --Religions attempt to restrict the free will, and freedoms, of other individuals, even when those individuals are not harming anyone else or society. Example: Muslims try to silence anyone who speaks badly of Mohammed, Allah, the Qur'an, or Islam in general. Even 'moderate' Muslims will often try to force unbelievers to 'respect their religion' while they show no respect for anyone who is not a Muslim. Reason 2: --Religion promotes discrimination (religious discrimination, ***ism, etc.) Example 1: Fundamentalist Christians are against homo***uality because their 'holy book' tells them that their ...
  • Refuting Theist Arguments - Why Religion is Delusional Refuting Theist Arguments -- Why Religion is Inherently Delusional Many theists get upset when I say that religion is a system of delusions, or when I say that there is a taboo against criticizing mass delusions that are in the form of religion. In this video I will explain why religions (ie systems that hold a belief in one or more supernatural forces) are inherently delusional. Let us start out by examining a set of criteria for determining if a belief is delusional. Karl Jaspers, a German psychiatrist who had a strong influence on modern psychiatry, defined a delusion by three criteria: -1) Certainty (held with absolute conviction) -2) Incorrigible (not changeable by compelling counter-argument or proof to the contrary) -3) Impossibility or falsity of context (implausible, bizarre, or patently untrue) Let's see if religion meets the criteria: -1) Religious individuals do hold their beliefs with absolute certainty. For example: When asked what would make them become an atheist, many Christians say "nothing, because I have found god." -2) There are compelling counter-arguments against religious belief (lack of proof, 'celestial teapot', etc.), and there is circumstantial evidence that would suggest that all religions were constructed by people. -3) The belief in an omnipotent deity, or ANY supernatural force, is implausible (there is ZERO evidence to even suggest that supernatural forces exist), and bizarre (yet again, purely magical forces are quite a bizarre notion ...
  • Osama Bin Laden & Co. REFUTED by Senior Muslim Scholars!! 1 of 2 The Senior Scholars of Saudi Arabia have refuted Bin Laden BEFORE the Western Nations have even heard of him. Allaah, His Messenger sallah Allaahu 'alayhi wassalam and his companions refute Bin Laden in the following: Qur'an [4:59] O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad sallah Allaahu 'alayhi wasalam), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger (sallah Allaahu 'alayhi wasalam), if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. (Ibn katheer said those in authority are the rulers and scholars) Allah's Messenger sallahu alayhi wa salam said: There will come leaders who will not follow my guidance and will not follow my Sunnah. There will be amongst them men who have the hearts of devils in the bodies of humans. He (Hudhayfullah) asked: What should I Do O Messenger of Allah if I reach that? He replied, "You should hear and obey the ruler even if he flogs your back and takes your wealth, then still hear and obey" Muslim" SAHIH MUSLIM Book 20, Number 4554 Alluding to the hadith of Ibn 'Abbaas, radiallaahu 'anhummaa, who said: Allaah's Messenger said,"He who sees from his ruler something he dislikes, let him be patient with him, for he who splits away from the Jamaa'ah by a handspan and then dies, dies a death of Jaahiliyyah" and in a narration, "then he has thrown off the yoke of Islaam from his neck ...
  • Tesla Coils Refute Science! and Other Absurd Claims by VFX VFX fails once again and in spectacular fashion. I am mainly making this video to address the claims he makes because for once one of his videos raised above the usual Evilution is a lie nonsense. In other words he has for slightly more sophisticated apologetics to parrot. I particularly loved the part where the admonished the atheists for not using philosophy and reason, especially in light of the fact that he shows in this very video an abject ignorance to the philosophy of empiricism, naturalism and science, as well as an utter ignorance of the positions and results of cognitive science. He says that with naturalism, we would never be able to say that he is conscious as opposed to him being a mindless robot well lets just say I have my doubts about him not being a robot! by the way, where did he get the idea that making reasoned inferences is not a part of empiricism? In fact it IS, and doing so does not falsify a naturalistic world view in any way, shape or form. The ONLY way to not be a naturalist is to believe in something supernatural.
  • Did the Salaf refute Ahlul Bid'ah ?! Shaykh Muqbil This is the statement of (Muhammad) Ibn Seereen (d. 110H) where the shaykh was talking about: Asmaa' Bint 'Ubayd said: Two of the people of vain desires and innovations entered upon Ibn Seereen (d.110H), and said: O Abaa Bakr, may we speak with you? So he said: "No!" They said: "May we recite an aayah from the Book of Allaah?" He said: "No, indeed either you must get up and leave me, or I will get up and leave." So they left, so some of the people said, O Abaa Bakr, what harm would it have done to you, for them to recite an aayah from the Book of Allaah? He said, I feared that they would read an aayah to me and distort it, and that would remain in my heart Related by ad-Daarimiee in his Sunan (1/109)
  • Examples Of Living Fossils Refute The Theory Of Evolution FOSSILS HAVE DISCREDITED EVOLUTION: www.baltic- www.bird- fossil- www.living- www.reptile- Tens of thousands of fossils embedded in amber show that termites have always been termites. Ants have always been ants, frogs have always been frogs, snakes have always been snakes, butterflies have always been butterflies. In short, living things have always existed in the forms they first displayed when they first came into the world, with the same features. There is no difference between living things preserved in amber millions of years ago and their present day counterparts.
  • Richard Dawkins: One Fact to Refute Creationism Complete video at: fora.tv Biologist Richard Dawkins identifies what he views is the single most compelling fact to refute Creationism -- but states that the real problem lies in convincing Creationists to listen to the evidence. "What they do is simply stick their fingers in their ears and say 'La la la,'" says Dawkins. "You cannot argue with a mind like that." ----- Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion created a storm of controversy over the question of God's existence. Now, in The Greatest Show on Earth, Dawkins presents a stunning counterattack against advocates of "Intelligent Design" that explains the evidence for evolution while keeping an eye trained on the absurdities of the creationist argument. More than an argument of his own, it's a thrilling tour into our distant past and into the interstices of life on earth. Taking us through the case for evolution step-by-step, Dawkins looks at DNA, selective breeding, anatomical similarities, molecular family trees, geography, time, fossils, vestiges and imperfections, human evolution, and the formula for a strong scientific theory. Dawkins' trademark wit and ferocity is joined by an infectious passion for the beauty and strangeness of the natural world, proving along the way that the mechanisms of the natural world are more miraculous -- a "greater show" -- than any creation story generated by any religion on earth. - Berkeley Arts and Letters Richard Dawkins is a world-renowned evolutionary biologist and author. He is a ...
