Ruthless Ramsey 101 (cassette scratching) DJ Ruthless Ramsey, aka Ramsey Higgins, the original and still undefeated master of the art of cassette deck scratching is now taking his art to the masses. As a DJ with several battles under his belt and crowds gathering from across the country he now passes the torch to the next generation of DJs as a professor of turntablism at Scottsdale Community College (SCC). With the growing popularity of the digital media age he takes music back to its roots in the hopes of helping reestablish the fundamental role of a DJ in the progression of music as a whole. The DJ who once was the gatekeeper to what got played and what didn't must retake their thrown to hold artist to a higher standard in order to recultivate the music landscape with MCs amongst a sea of rappers, B boys amidst a crowd of dancers, and producers digging in the crates to gain appeal over their MP3 and harddrive jockey counterparts. Whether on the wheels or blowing minds on the dual decks, Ramsey is keeping music moving forward and for that hip-hop heads are eternally grateful as we move into the beyond for generations to come. GLOBAL 3000 | Robust and Profitable - a region transformed b A portrait of social entrepreneur Ismael Ferreira from Bahia,Brazil:The Sertao in the Brazilian state of Bahia is a barren,semi-arid region. In Bahia,over 50 percent of the population live below the poverty line. Those who are able,tend to move elsewhere. Ismael Ferreira is one of those who decided to stay in his home town of Valente. The son of a farmer,he opted to study Agriculture. Then,more than 20 years ago,he started to recultivate sisal,a plant that no one wanted to grow anymore. And yet nothing grows as well in this semi-arid region as sisal,able to survive with very little water. Ismael Ferreira set up a kind of cooperative,which today is the biggest employer in and around Valente. The company also has a factory where sisal fibers are used to make carpets. A lot of the company's output is exported abroad. And that is where this company in a small town in Brazil is feeling the effects of globalization. For quite some time now,the factory has been fighting to survive because of currency fluctuations,in particular because of the weak dollar. For months,wages have not been paid in full. But Ferreira has not given up and has come up with some ideas for weathering the crisis. We paid him a visit in Valente.

Schlachthof Wiesbaden Wall of Fame Graffiti 1995 Early nineties the slaughter-place of the city of Wiesbaden was not in use anymore. Very soon it got discovered and established as a Graffiti-Hall-Of-Fame where artists could paint almost legal during day-time on thousands of squaremeters surface. Mid nineties plans of the city-council got public to tear down the area, instead of recultivating the buildings. To resist the plans of destruction the "Int. Wall Street Meeting" was created in order to present the area as a melting-point of urban street-culture. Annually Graffiti-Artists from all over the world gathered in the spirit of colaboration and exchange, so during a weekend in summer the entire area got a new outlook, created by hundreds of artists. In the years from 1997-2001 more than 25.000 visitors from all over the world attended the events to join pure flavour of urban street-culture. Eventhough the event managed to delay the demolition for years, it was not possible to preserve the area.
