  • Megadeth's "Dawn Patrol & Rust in Peace (Polaris)" on bass - LRRG An epic diddy off of Megadeth's best album, Rust in Peace. First off, apologies for the errors in this video, both technical as well as flubbed notes. They can't all be hits, hehehe, and my ear playing doesn't help things. I set the bass for a different EQ setting in order to bring the mid-tones out enough to be heard for this one...that way you can tell where I am hitting the notes...and I suppressed the lows a bit so it does not rumble when I am playing fast. Typically I would not do this sort of thing in a live situation, relying on the guitars to carry the punctate part of the band's tone. As a way to pick on myself, I counted my big mistakes in this tune. There were quite a few, and no surprise they are highly-concentrated towards the last part of the tune. What can I say? My hands get tired by the time I get to the end when it gets ridiculously fast, and I had been playing stuff all day, so I was a bit winded to begin with. And I am doing Mustaine's part on that as well as Ellefson's...blah blah blah. I know...excuses, excuses. Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy this. As an aside, the "Virtual Maiden" band that I was involved with last year has been revived with a new drummer and a vocalist (same guitar duo with better sound!). Our first video should be out soon, and it is a barn-burner from the Piece of Mind album. So watch for it! • Oral Cavity and Oropharynx Examination Oral cavity extends from the mucosal surface of the lips until the anterior pillar of the tonsils and the oropharynx begins behind these and entends from the level of soft palate superiorly to the level of tongue base and vallecula inferiorly. Systematic examinations begins by inspection followed by bimanual palpation (for submandibular glands) and testing the tongue and palatal movements. Attention need to be given when examining retromolar trigones, buccoalveous sulci, Stensen's and Wharton's ducts openings, and state of dentitions. The tongue is tested by asking the patient to stick it out and moving at various directions and uvulopalatal symmetry documented. Gag refled should be present upon pharyngeal mucosal stimulation. Taste sensations can be tested in selected cases. This video shows an essentially normal examination of the oral cavity and throat with the exceptions of multiple teeth fillings and few punctate venular dilatation near the tongue frenulum.

  • Maxillofacial - 3D medical model - Cosmetic Surgery - 267471-02 This is a 3D model (from CT scan data) on this 33 year old female to study: Cosmetic surgery. A physical 3D model of this item (SKU: 267471-02) can be ordered at www.Medical3 and patient-specific 3D models are available at . CLINICAL HISTORY: History of cosmetic surgery. TECHNIQUE: A noncontrast CT scan of the maxillofacial bones was acquired at 1.0 mm slice thickness in the axial orientation. 2D sagittal and coronal reformatted images were provided, in addition to 3D surfacerendered reformatted images. FINDINGS: No previous examinations performed at this facility. There are bilateral mandibular implants, extending from the posterior aspect of the body of the mandibles to the rami. The implants are interposed between the masseter muscles and the buccal cortex of the mandibles. Note is made of periosteal reaction which extends along the posterior margin of the implant in the region of the rami, more pronounced on the left than the right. No osseous destructive lesions are identified in the mandible. An implant is also identified to extend along the inferior aspect of the mandible, extending from the mandibular symphysis to the mid-portions of the body of the mandibles. There is also an implant identified in the midline, from the nasofrontal suture inferiorly, extending beyond the inferior margin of the nasal bones. There are multiple subcutaneous calcifications noted in the premalar region varying from size from punctate to approximately 6 mm. No ...

  • Iron Maiden's "Flash of the Blade" on bass - LRRG Well, here is another gem from the awesomely awesome Powerslave album, done on request. To be honest, I never worked this song up in my past, so I spent this morning giving it a crack. There may be some, uh....discrepancies, as there always is when you get my wonky ear after one of these tunes de novo. Yes, that is a pick in my mouth. I found that the bridge sounds better if I give my fingers a bit of a rest during that part and play with a more punctate sounding style, hence the plectron. It looks like a green tongue sticking out of my mouth. Right after I make a half-step error that I have to correct for....(blushes). Anyways, enjoy a morning exercise in learning a Maiden tune.

  • Cherry Poppin' Daddies' "Master and Slave" on bass - LRRG For a change of pace, I decided to drag out some swing music. I know what you're thinking...you play all of this rock, why the heck are you playing swing? Well, because it swings! Where else do you get that beat? The Cherry Poppin' daddies are by far my favorite modern swing band. Every stinking musician in the band can play his butt off, and the singer is as greased up as you can get. Wonderful stuff with a little hard edge to it. I picked this tune versus "Zoot Suit Riot" because the bass line is exquisite. The punctate notes mixed with the doublets creates a rhythm that I had never heard before this song, and I just HAD to learn it (well, mostly, as in everything I do). Swing Heil! my fellow LRRGs!

  • Minutemen - Mike Watt -Trilogy of Tunes II on bass - LRRG "Cut" "Pure Joy" "Sell or be Sold" Here is my second installment of Minutemen tunes on bass...three in all. The tunes featured here come from two of their albums: "What Makes Man Start Fires?", and "Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat". Once again, for those of you not familiar with the Minutemen, they were an excellent punk band from the 80's that put out a different brand of punk than most...it has funk and style and taste. Their bass player, Mike Watt, is one of the strongest, tightest, most melodic bass players ever...a real powerhouse with fingers or pick. Every bass player that plays punk should learn some Mike Watt...it is kinda of like Les Claypool, but you need strength instead of finesse to play it. The opening tune, "Cut" is just an all-around rocker....great beat, great feel. The second tune, "Pure Joy", has a real punctate sound that Make Watt was known for, alongside an excellent bridge and ending bass solo. The last tune, "Sell or be Sold" has a great chordy riff that works out the flamenco hand coupled with some strong walky scale work in between. Great stuff, and not too hard to learn since the tunes are short enough (1-2mins) to play over and over quickly (you can only practice "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" 4 times an hour, after all).
