  • Stereotype 4th World, the St. Lucian reggae band that rocked the crowd at the 2010 Montreal International Reggae Festival, and who has announced its tour of the Northeastern USA soon after its participation in St. Lucia Jazz 2011, has released its 5th single, Stereotype, from its debut album, Can't Stop Us, to be launched March of this year. The strength, originality and prolificacy of 4th World rest in the fact that it has three lead singers all of whom double as songwriters and instrument players. In previous 4th World releases, we heard from Nijah "Cold Sweat" St. Catherine (Reggae Party, Taking Blows, and Can't Stop Us), and from Sylvester "Itoobaa" Peter (Now She is Gone), now with the release of Stereotype we are hearing from the third leg of 4th World lead singers and songwriters--Darrel "Frenchy" Augier. Employing the full force of nature--wind, thunder, lightning, fire and water—the lyrics and music in Stereotype come down with elemental force. And like the other 4th World releases, Stereotype is edgy, irresistible, revolutionary in arrangement and lyrics, yet it is as true to roots reggae as the music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. What a treat, what a thrill to listen to 4th World; What variety of music and voices. There is Cold Sweat, the vocal maestro, who some say possesses one of the best voices in world reggae. There is the veteran, Itoobaa, the man whose rustic and unyielding voice conjure all the great reggae artists of old, and who has a knack of combining reggae ...
  • Kishwar Sultan - da cha pa zrru kay A BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE [Ameer Ghulam Sadiq; 1920s -1998]: Ameer Ghulam Sadiq was born in Nowshera Kalan, Pakhtunkhwa in late 1920s, and died in 1998. Although he did not have formal education beyond the primary level, he stands tall among Pakhtun scholars, poets and literary giants. People of his caliber are just rarely born; he was an in-born poet imbued with a poetic sense. Ameer Ghulam sadiq had a keen sense of Pakhtun culture, its ethos and psyche. Early on he had realized his love for poetry and considered Pashto poet Abdullah Ustaaz (of Nowshera) as his teacher. While he was still very popular and had many pashto poetry books to his credit, and his lyrics (mainly Ballads) were recorded by best pashto singer of the 1960s (eg, Fazal Rabi, Ahmad Khan, Insaan Shah), the start of pashto movie production in 1969 just provided the kind of environment he needed to realize his potentials. During the course of 1970 through 1996, he wrote lyrics for over 250 pashto movies. Given an average of 5 lyrics per movie, by conservative estimates this amounts to 1250 songs. Ameer Ghulam Sadiq was well aware how other lyricists fared when it came to prolificacy. Laughingly, in my interview with him, Ameer Ghulam Sadiq mentioned the number of months Ayub Sabir of Kohat needed to write just a few lyrics for a Pashto movie. However, he was not just a prolific poet but wrote quality items that distinguished Ameer Ghulam Sadiq among his peers (eg, Murad Shinwari, Younas Qiyasi, Ali Haider Joshi ...

Alessandro Scarlatti, Letter to Ferdinando de Medici, Rome, May 29, 1706 After the Renaissance madrigal, it was the cantata-its introduction prepared by Monteverdi-that became the vehicle of choice for setting love poetry to music in Italy up to the middle of the 18th century (the genre was a religious one only in Germany). The cantata's melodic and rhythmic figures, and its successions of harmonic colours, were ideal for evoking the heart's many conditions-imitating its various states of passion, from exaltation to anguish, and its progressions of heartbreak, jealousy or happiness. Except for the employment of a narrator, made necessary by the poetry, and the fact that a single voice occasionally sings several roles, the form's alternating recitatives and arias often make it a miniature unstaged opera. • Dryft - Vector Step (Regeneration) Ventricle Label: n5MD Released: Sep 2010 Footage from BBC's Planet Earth - Fresh Water Ventricle is the latest album from Mike Cadoo's long dormant Dryft side-project. The album deviates from Cadoo's current main project Bitcrush just as previous Dryft efforts strayed from his previous group Gridlock. This time, however, it's fair to describe Dryft as bearing more resemblance to Cadoo's past than to any passing flirtation with fringe genres. Moreover, like a message in a bottle, it is as though all that Cadoo had failed to completely express through Gridlock had been stored away subconsciously and now, as Ventricle, that bottle has finally washed ashore. While Cadoo is the first to acknowledge the stylistic similarities between Ventricle and his contributions to Gridlock, he warns against making specific comparisons. This is new music. Caveats aside, the massive, enveloping drones and rusty clatter that anchored his former band are omnipresent. Powered by overdriven, symphonic walls of slowly evolving melodies matched with rhythms that recall the drum-n-bass of Cell (2000), the industrial battery of Gridlock and the jammed funk of his Mytotyc Exyt EP (2002), Ventricle is a true opus that offers revolution and retrospective in one. No matter the degree of hyperbole applied, the term "side-project" has never felt more out of place. The process by which musicians name their projects can sometimes seem just as arbitrary as the way in which cars are assigned license plates ...

  • A Song For a Son - Smashing Pumpkins Bass Audition I love this song. At first I thought this was the most complicated bass line of all the Smashing Pumpkins songs. Is that true? Granted I still have some practicing to do, which I'm doing every day. :) I learned this one by ear. I listened to it on four different sets of speakers. They all have different frequency responses, so not all the notes come out properly on each set of speakers. Some might emphasize a low E, whereas on other speakers you wouldn't even hear that particular note. I thought I had the song nailed, then I listened to it in my car - and found some additional notes to play. Also, with the many layers of instruments in the mix, it's sometimes a challenge to pick out what is what. I had a blast working up this song. I believe this is pretty accurate. Constructive feedback welcome! Thanks Billy for your creative prolificacy. It's one thing to learn somebody else's song. It's a whole different thing to be creating them yourself.

Early on he had realized his love for poetry and considered Pashto poet Abdullah Ustaaz (of Nowshera) as his teacher. The soothing and enchanting music of Muhammad Rafeeq Shinwari, STSunny, Fazal Rabi Pardesi, Rahdat Hussain, Bakhtyar, and SherAfghan further strengthened his bond. While he was still very popular and had many pashto poetry books to his credit, and his poetry was recorded by best pashto singer of the 1960s (eg, Fazal Rabi, Ahmad Khan), it was essentially the start of pashto movie production in 1969 that provided the kind of environment Sadiq Ustaaz needed to realize his potentials. • MTV Cribs, Orgiva, Spain MTV presents Cribs. Casa el Bobby Lee Malaga was built in the early 1900s by the legendary lothario Col. Lee Malaga Snr. Known for his revolutionary warfare tactics in the American Civil War he was banished from assisting the Americans in 1868 for what was described, somewhat tenebrously, as 'inappropriate behaviour'. He later settled in Orgiva in Granada, Spain, after a few unaccounted for years. He quickly rose to notoriety as a lover with unparalleled rivalry and boasted a tonk rate of 3.04 per night/day - a strike rate which even Don Juan himself could not compete with. Rumour has it that his knowledge of the carnal realm was so in depth that he re-wrote the Karma Sutra, introducing techniques never before documented by mankind. Furthermore, legend has it that the Colonel's redacted text resides deep within the Orgiva village itself, although clues as to its whereabouts are somewhat cloudy, although a multitude of historians make reference to 'powderussnatchus' - the etymology of the word remains unclear and it is thought that Malaga Snr. may have developed his own ***ual lexicon. Little is known about the Colonel's later years although it can be assumed that many an offspring now roam the south coast of Spain. The Villa's compound itself is set in rural, mountainous surroundings just outside of the aforementioned Orgiva. Nowadays, given its ***, romantic history it provides a summer getaway for some of the worlds biggest most exclusive international players ...
  • Dryft - Vapours and Waste Ventricle Label: n5MD Released: Sep 2010 Footage from Earth From Above - The Major Rivers The film is based on the photographs by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, which appeared in the bestseller book Earth From Above. The major rivers are the arteries of our planet, but they are in acute danger. Many threaten to dry up and no longer reach the sea. Others have been blocked by dams or poisoned by waste. And not just the rivers, our whole planet is threatened by this disease. Yann Arthus-Bertrand and his team lead us these relationships in mind and show us how we can influence the fate of the rivers. Ventricle is the latest album from Mike Cadoo's long dormant Dryft side-project. • Geoff White - Ince With his amazing talent and prolificacy, Geoff White sets the standard in the techno realm. White is a producer, DJ, and live performer, always branching out into new musical territory and realizing his ambitious aspirations. Ince continues the momentum of his ingenuity. Although Ince is his first release for Spectral, White has made music for a plethora of other record labels. His first full-length, Questions and Comments, was issued by Force Inc., and he has also recorded music for Tigerbeat6, Traum, Morris Audio, Persona, Background, The Leaf Label, Source, and Force Lab. Additionally, he has cut records on his own label Edit. Ince's title track is tough, cut-up minimal techno featuring chopped guitar and breaths. The flip is heavy roll-out minimal, extremely concise but fluid. This 12" is a stellar addition to Geoff White's array of quality releases. "Ince, White's first release on Ghostly's sub-label Spectral, is dramatically unlike Viscous Solid, his elegantly textured Aeroc full-length recently issued by the Michigan-based imprint. While the mix in the more grooves-oriented Ince naturally accentuates the bottom end, White artfully fashions moody atmospheres by inserting faint hovering tones into the tracks' backgrounds. A classic exercise in fluid minimal techno, 'Ince' combines propulsive bass throbs with funky guitar chatter, rubbery synth patterns, and breath sample accents. White ingeniously mixes things up by restlessly dropping beats in and out before ...

  • Welcome to liverpool david ngog Liverpool have today signed French hotshot David Ngog from Paris Saint Germain. The 19-year-old becomes the fourth addition to Rafa Benitez's first-team squad after penning a four-year deal at Anfield Ngog is one of the brightest young talents in French football. His tally of just one goal from 18 league appearances last term was largely down to PSG's disappointing form -- a contention backed up by his prolificacy on the international stage. The lightning quick forward has scored goals at every youth level for France, including two absolute corkers against England Under-19s last season. Ngog is the cousin of former Newcastle United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong.
