  • CONFIRMED UFO SIGHTING UNAM SCIENCE LAB !! The Holy Spirit prepares for the reception of Christ 1093 In the sacramental economy the Holy Spirit fulfills what was prefigured in the Old Covenant. Since Christ's Church was "prepared in marvelous fashion in the history of the people of Israel and in the Old Covenant,"14 the Church's liturgy has retained certain elements of the worship of the Old Covenant as integral and irreplaceable, adopting them as her own: -notably, reading the Old Testament; -praying the Psalms; -above all, recalling the saving events and significant realities which have found their fulfillment in the mystery of Christ (promise and covenant, Exodus and Passover, kingdom and temple, exile and return). 1094 It is on this harmony of the two Testaments that the Paschal catechesis of the Lord is built,15 and then, that of the Apostles and the Fathers of the Church. This catechesis unveils what lay hidden under the letter of the Old Testament: the mystery of Christ. It is called "typological" because it reveals the newness of Christ on the basis of the "figures" (types) which announce him in the deeds, words, and symbols of the first covenant. By this re-reading in the Spirit of Truth, starting from Christ, the figures are unveiled.16 Thus the flood and Noah's ark prefigured salvation by Baptism,17 as did the cloud and the crossing of the Red Sea. Water from the rock was the figure of the spiritual gifts of Christ, and manna in the desert prefigured the Eucharist, "the true bread from heaven."18 1095 ...
  • Ohio Express - Four Best Songs from BEG, BORROW, AND STEAL We all know that the Ohio Express became famous for their bubblegum pop hits like "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" and "Mercy," but like most bubblegum groups, they started off as a garage band, and their debut album, BEG, BORROW, AND STEAL shows them in their early incarnation--much more at home in the garage than the candy shop. These early Ohio Express recordings are, in fact, the work of at least three different bands: the Rare Breed from New York (who recorded the hit "Beg, Borrow, and Steal"); Joe Walsh's early band the Measles from Kent, Ohio; and the actual Ohio Express, from Mansfield, Ohio. Here are four of the best songs from their garage-rocking debut album on the Cameo label. These songs, you'll see, sound much more like "It's Cold Outside" than "1-2-3 Red Light": 1) "Try It" 2) "I Find I Think of You" 3) "Had to Be Me" 4) "Soul Struttin'" "Try It," of course, is a cover of the hit song by the Standells. Although Ohio Express change the lyrics to make them more innocuous, that roaring fuzz guitar more than makes up for it. "I Find I Think of You" is one of the songs from the album that was recorded by Joe Walsh's Measles. The Measles were students at Kent State University, and the group prefigured Walsh's later, much better-known band, the James Gang. I decided not to include the song "Beg, Borrow, and Steal" because most garage rock enthusiasts already have it in their collections; the Rare Breed's "Beg, Borrow, and Steal" is featured on the NUGGETS box set, and it's ...

  • Hail Mary Devotion to the Mother of God is not something that the Church "invented" adjacent to Scripture. Marian devotion of the people of God is not only prefigured in the Old Testament, but was prophesied in the New by Mary herself, when, inspired by the Holy Spirit, she exclaimed: "All generations will call me blessed". In honoring Mary as do Her own Spouse (the Holy Spirit, of Whom she conceived Jesus), her Almighty Father (Who has done "great things" - plural - for her) and her Divine Son (Who shares even His Father and His Mother with His disciples - plural - who He loves), and in praying to the Queen of Heaven to intercede for them to her Divine Son, Christians simply do what they have to do - with truly miraculous results.

Sunday - fulfillment of the sabbath 2175 Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the sabbath. In Christ's Passover, Sunday fulfills the spiritual truth of the Jewish sabbath and announces man's eternal rest in God. For worship under the Law prepared for the mystery of Christ, and what was done there prefigured some aspects of Christ:107 Those who lived according to the old order of things have come to a new hope, no longer keeping the sabbath, but the Lord's Day, in which our life is blessed by him and by his death.108 2176 The celebration of Sunday observes the moral commandment inscribed by nature in the human heart to render to God an outward, visible, public, and regular worship "as a sign of his universal beneficence to all."109 Sunday worship fulfills the moral command of the Old Covenant, taking up its rhythm and spirit in the weekly celebration of the Creator and Redeemer of his people. The Sunday Eucharist 2177 The Sunday celebration of the Lord's Day and his Eucharist is at the heart of the Church's life. • Cavafy poem 91: Was He Really Dead? 91. Was He Really Dead? "Into what hidden mountain cave in what obscure and distant wilderness did our all-reverenced leader disappear? After such miracles, such ministry famed now among the disbelieving nations, where did the Great One go? And in what manner? What circumstance attended his eclipse? If it be true, as some say, he is dead, where can be found his monument or grave? It's rumoured he passed away at Ephesus. His Assyrian disciple, worthy Damis, in his gospel of the master, mentions nothing. Some state his disappearance dates from Lindos. Others that he ascended into heaven at holy Diktynna on ancient Crete. Another account: he miraculously appeared to a doubting befuddled student at Tyana. "Perhaps this sordid world is yet unready to receive the blessing of a second coming. Perhaps he passes even now unrecognised among us; we know him not. Doubtless when time is ripe, the prefigured stars fixed in their positions, he will in glory reinstate the worship of our ancient wonder-working erstwhile gods." ...This was written, in his miserable hovel (after reading revered Philostratus' 'Concerning Apollonios of Tyana') by one of our discreeter neo-pagans; who, though at heart a reborn worshipper of the pure Hellene Olympus, toddled off to church with all the rest, ostensibly a very pious man of the time of the Elder Justin in that godly christian city by the sea our wholly holy Alexandria!

  • Cambodia: SIHANOUK's SANGKUM REASTRE NIYUM (3of8) [KH] In Sihanouk's day one, did not need to know Khmer to travel about the city; French, Vietnamese, or Chinese would suffice? In the untroubled years of Sihanouk's Cambodia, the Vietnamese occupied a minor place in the pecking order of Cambodians commerce. They were tailors, shoemakers and bookshop owners, the latter selling material sympathetic to the Vietnamese communists cause. Vietnamese were clerks in banks and foreign businesses, maintaining relationships that had been established long before independence. The throne, which Sihanouk mounted in 1941, had a history that stretched back to the days of the great Angkorian empire, when Cambodian power extended over much of present day mainland southeast Asia. But with the abandonment of Angkor in the fif***th century, Cambodia progressively lost territory to its more vigorous western and eastern neighbors, Thailand and Vietnam. By the end of the eigh***th century there seemed little prospect that Cambodia would survive as an independence state. During the early decades of the nine***th century it was scarcely that, as Thailand and Vietnam contended for dominance over the pitifully weak Cambodian court, Vietnam gaining the ascendancy in the 1830s. Sihanouk's protests against these measures were of no avail. Equally, unavailing were his protests against continuing efforts by the French to promote the Romanization of the Cambodian writing system and the substitution of the Gregorian calendar for the traditional Cambodian ...

  • SAINT JOSEPH !! THE PERFECT FATHER !! VIRGIN FATHER OF JESUS PERFECTLY CHASTE !! 2 . . . which participates in the liturgy of heaven 1090 "In the earthly liturgy we share in a foretaste of that heavenly liturgy which is celebrated in the Holy City of Jerusalem toward which we journey as pilgrims, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God, Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle. With all the warriors of the heavenly army we sing a hymn of glory to the Lord; venerating the memory of the saints, we hope for some part and fellowship with them; we eagerly await the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ, until he, our life, shall appear and we too will appear with him in glory."13 III. THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CHURCH IN THE LITURGY 1091 In the liturgy the Holy Spirit is teacher of the faith of the People of God and artisan of "God's masterpieces," the sacraments of the New Covenant. The desire and work of the Spirit in the heart of the Church is that we may live from the life of the risen Christ. When the Spirit encounters in us the response of faith which he has aroused in us, he brings about genuine cooperation. Through it, the liturgy becomes the common work of the Holy Spirit and the Church. 1092 In this sacramental dispensation of Christ's mystery the Holy Spirit acts in the same way as at other times in the economy of salvation: he prepares the Church to encounter her Lord; he recalls and makes Christ manifest to the faith of the assembly. By his transforming power, he makes the mystery of Christ present here and now. Finally the Spirit of ...
  • STAR SHAPED UFO S TOLUCA MEXICO !! ARTICLE 1 THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM 1213 Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua),4 and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."5 I. WHAT IS THIS SACRAMENT CALLED? 1214 This sacrament is called Baptism, after the central rite by which it is carried out: to baptize (Greek baptizein) means to "plunge" or "immerse"; the "plunge" into the water symbolizes the catechumen's burial into Christ's death, from which he rises up by resurrection with him, as "a new creature."6 1215 This sacrament is also called "the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit," for it signifies and actually brings about the birth of water and the Spirit without which no one "can enter the kingdom of God."7 1216 "This bath is called enlightenment, because those who receive this [catechetical] instruction are enlightened in their understanding . . . ."8 Having received in Baptism the Word, "the true light that enlightens every man," the person baptized has been "enlightened," he becomes a "son of light," indeed, he becomes "light" himself:9 Baptism is God's most beautiful and magnificent gift. . . .We call it gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of ...

  • Barack Hussein Obama: Once a Muslim, Always A Muslim In 1985, Barack Obama had just arrived in Chicago for his new job as a community organizer when he headed to Smitty's Barbershop, a tiny storefront on the South Side. As Smitty cut his hair, Obama listened to the men in the shop talk politics and racial grievance. When the barber finished, he handed Obama a mirror and said, "Haircut's ten dollars. What's your name, anyway?" "Barack." "Barack, huh," Smitty responded. "You a Muslim?" "Grandfather was," Obama said, according to his memoir Dreams From My Father. Smitty's question, which Obama didn't exactly answer, prefigured a controversy that continues to this day. A new poll by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life shows that 18 percent of Americans believe Obama is a Muslim. That is up from the 12 percent who believed that in October 2008, just before Obama was elected president. At the same time, the number of Pew respondents who say Obama is a Christian — in Dreams From My Father, he describes his conversion to Christianity under the tutelage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright — has declined from 51 percent in October 2008 to 34 percent now. And the number of people who say they don't know Obama's religion is growing, from 32 percent back then to 43 percent today. The White House blames the situation on a "misinformation campaign" from Obama's opponents. But Obama and his aides might also blame themselves for the way they've handled the Muslim issue over the years. The question did not come out of nowhere. As Obama said, his ...
  • Hardrock Gunter - Hesitation Boogie (1951) Sidney Louie Gunter Jr. (b 27 February 1925, Birmingham, Alabama), known as Hardrock Gunter, is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose music at the turn of the 1950s prefigured rock and roll and rockabilly music. He formed his first group, the Hoot Owl Ramblers, in his ***s, and also performed a solo novelty act in talent shows. In 1939, he joined Happy Wilson's Golden River Boys, a country swing group, and acquired his nickname when a van trunk lid fell on him before a show and he never flinched. After wartime service he returned to work with the group, before leaving to become their agent and starting to appear on local TV. As a popular local personality, he was approached to record by Birminghams Bama label. He recorded his own song "Birmingham Bounce" in early 1950, the Golden River Boys being renamed the Pebbles on the record. It became a regional hit, and led to over 20 cover versions, the most successful being by Red Foley. Gunters original version has become regarded as a contender for the first rock and roll record, predating "Rocket 88" by a year. Gunter followed up with "Gonna Dance All Night", one of the first records to feature the actual words "rocknroll". When the Bama label folded, Gunter signed to Decca, and his 1951 duet with Roberta Lee, "Sixty Minute Man," was one of the first country records to cross over to R&B audiences. In 1953 he began working at a radio station, and also remade "Gonna Dance All Night" and recorded "Jukebox Help Me Find My Baby ...
  • Capicu Open Mic 4th Anniversary Featuring Felipe Luciano! - Part 1 We are honored and proud to celebrate our 4th year of work in the arts community, and birthday of Capicu cofounder PaPo Swiggity- by featuring one of our most celebrated voices! A Poet, activist, two-time Emmy recipient, former WNBC-TV news anchor, and lecturer, Felipe Luciano is one of the most dynamic Latino public figures in the United States of the late twentieth- and early twenty-first centuries. His eloquence, vis...ion, and passion for issues of social justice are extraordinary and reminiscent of the oratory talent of civil rights leaders of the 1960s. Luciano was born in New York City and raised in poverty in East Harlem and Brooklyn by a single Puerto Rican mother. In 1964, at the age of seven***, Luciano was convicted of attempted manslaughter in the second degree in the State of New York and sentenced to five years in prison. Upon his release, the Harlem antipoverty agency recognized his academic potential and creative talent and urged the young Luciano to apply to college. With the support of the college readiness program, SEEK, he enrolled in the City University of New York Queens College campus, where he immediately became involved in the student activism of the 1960s. Luciano soon became known within activist circles for his membership in the Last Poets, the group of black power era artists mentored by Amiri Baraka, whose politically charged live-music and spoken word poetry performances in the 1960s prefigured the emergence of hip hop and rap in the 1970s ...

  • Barbara Bonney "Fulget amica dies" "Tu Virginum Corona" K 165 WA Mozart The Blessed Virgin Mary The Mother of God, Mother of Jesus, wife of St. Joseph, and the greatest of all Christian saints. The Virgin Mother was, after her Son, exalted by divine grace above all angels and men. The principal events of her life are celebrated as liturgical feasts of the universal Church. Marys life and role in the history of salvation is prefigured in the Old Testament, while the events of her life are recorded in the New Testament. Traditionally, she was declared the daughter of Sts. Joachim and Anne. Born in Jerusalem, Mary was presented in the Temple and took a vow of virginity. Living in Nazareth, Mary was visited by the archangel Gabriel, who announced to her that she would become the Mother of Jesus, by the Holy Spirit. She became betrothed to St. Joseph and went to visit her cousin, Elizabeth, who was bearing St. John the Baptist. Acknowledged by Elizabeth as the Mother of God, Mary intoned the Magnificat. When Emperor Augustus declared a census throughout the vast Roman Empire, Mary and St. Joseph went to Bethlehem, his city of lineage, as he belonged to the House of David. There Mary gave birth to Jesus. Warned to flee, St. Joseph and Mary went to Egypt to escape the wrath of King Herod. They remained in Egypt until King Herod died and then returned to Nazareth. Nothing is known of Marys life during the next years except for a visit to the Temple of Jerusalem, at which time Mary and Joseph sought the young Jesus, who was in the Temple with the ...
  • The Royal Priesthood of the Laity Brian Kelly first had to assure his audience that he was not going to espouse any heresy by introducing such a topic, which, in actual fact, has not been emphasized as strongly as it ought to be among Catholics loyal to the traditional Latin Mass. After giving a few personal anecdotes from the days of his youth in the 1950s, when there was still a residue of Catholic culture left in homes and parishes, the speaker moved right into the issue by showing how the royal priesthood of the laity was prefigured by the priestly kingdom of the Old Testament. As a nation God called the Jews from the time of Moses on to be a priestly kingdom; in the New Testament, however, Mr. Kelly explains that God reversed the role by inspiring Saint Peter to write in his Epistle to the whole Church: You are a kingly priesthood. Then, he explains how this royalty and priesthood are a participation of the members of the Mystical Body in the Priesthood of Christ the King. We are royal, the speaker pointed out, because we are members of His Body and our Head, Jesus Christ, is the King of the Universe. The most important part of Mr. Kellys talk was his examination of the participation of the faithful with the sacrificing priest at the altar in Holy Mass. He quickly ran through the prayers of the Mass to show how almost all of them are given in the plural: our sacrifice, our oblation which we offer, grant us we beseech Thee. What deputes the laity to offer what Saint Paul calls spiritual sacrifices is ...

The first half of this lecture examines Shakespeare's economic insights in depth, and sees how they sometimes prefigured or even surpassed Irving Fisher's intuitions. • CANON MEANS FIXED RULE St. Cyprian of Carthage, Letter to Cecil, 253 AD 63:4, Also in the priest Melchisedech we see the Sacrament of the Sacrifice of the Lord prefigured, in accord with that to which the Divine Scriptures testify, where it says; "And Melchisedech, the King of Salem, brought out bread and wine, for he was a priest of the most high GOD (Gen 14:18)." "Because outside the unity of faith and love which makes us sons and members of the Church, no one can be saved, hence if the Sacraments are received outside the Church, they are not effective for salvation, although they are true sacraments. However, they can become useful if one returns to Holy Mother the Church, the only Spouse of Christ, whose sons alone Christ the Spouse deems worthy of inheritance. Doctor of the church St Bonaventure " Liturgical Language. Holy Mass is to be cele brated in the liturgical language proper to each one s Rite, as approved by the Church (819). Quoted from 1917 Code of Canon Law 'THE CANON IS ABOVE ALL OTHERS THE TRADITIONAL PRAYER OF THE CHURCH.' St Andrews 1945 Daily Missal

  • Holy Friday - "Moses the great" & Great Doxology At St George Cathedral, Tripoli, with Archbishop Elias Kurban. "Great Moses mystically prefigured this present day when he said 'and God blessed the seventh day.' For this is the blessed Sabbath, this the day of rest on which the only-begotten Son of God rested from all his works. Through the dispensation in accordance with death, he kept the Sabbath in the flesh, and, returning once again to what he was, through the Resurrection he has granted us eternal life, for he alone is good and loves mankind."
  • The Easter Rising in counties Galway, Wexford and Meath Irish Volunteer units turned out for the Rising in several places outside of Dublin, but due to Eoin MacNeill's countermanding order, most of them returned home without fighting. In addition, due to the interception of the German arms aboard the Aud, the provincial Volunteer units were very poorly armed. At Ashbourne, County Meath, the North County Dublin Volunteers (also known as the Fingal Volunteers), led by Thomas Ashe and his second in command Richard Mulcahy, attacked the RIC barracks. Reinforcements came from Slane and after a five-hour battle, the Volunteers captured over 90 prisoners. There were 810 RIC deaths and two Volunteer fatalities, John Crennigan and Thomas Rafferty. The action pre-figured the guerrilla tactics of the Irish Republican Army in Tan War from 1919 to 1921. Elsewhere in the east, Seán MacEntee and County Louth Volunteers killed a policeman and a prison guard. In County Wexford, the Volunteers took over Enniscorthy from Tuesday until Friday, before symbolically surrendering to the British Army at Vinegar Hill site of a famous battle during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. In the west, Liam Mellows led 600-700 Volunteers in abortive attacks on several police stations, at Oranmore and Clarinbridge in County Galway. There was also a skirmish at Carnmore in which two RIC men were killed. However his men were poorly-armed, with only 25 rifles and 300 shotguns, many of them being equipped only with pikes. Towards the end of the week, Mellows' followers ...

  • Friedrich Nietzsche - Human...All Too Human 1 of 6 Friedrich Nietzsche: Beyond Good and Evil The prescient seeds of thought disseminated by Friedrich Nietzsche in the 19th century prefigured the pivotal 20th-century concepts of existentialism and psycho***ysis. In this program, interviews with Nietzsche biographers Ronald Hayman and Leslie Chamberlain, archivist Dr. Andrea Bollinger, translator Reg Hollingdale, writer Will Self, and philosopher Keith Ansell Pearson probe Nietzsches life and elucidate his writings. In addition, his sisters role in editing his works for use as *** propaganda is highlighted. Extracts of Nietzsches aphoristic prose, drawn from works such as The Parable of a Madman and Thus Spoke Zarathustra, aptly convey the essence of a supreme stylist and prophetic thinker.
  • The Jorvik Ensemble - Anois 's Arís (for Psaltery and Electronics) This piece for psaltery and electronics was composed collaboratively by Irish composers Peter Moran and Judith Ring, who gave this premiere performance at the Jorvik Ensembles debut concert. The psaltery is an ancient zither which prefigured the development of later keyboard instruments like the harpsichord and piano. The form of the instrument played here was common around the twelfth and thir***th centuries, when it was often played with a feather, or held in the arm and plucked like a lyre. A beautifully versatile instrument made simply of open strings stretched over a sound-box, it was tuned for this performance not to any particular mode or scale, but to a specific collection of melodic and microtonal intervals required of the part. Given the quiet dynamic of the instrument and the rich range of sounds it offers, the psaltery suggests itself well to amplification and sampling, which is how this collaboration came about. The title translates (from the Irish) as now and then. This captures something of the irregular meetings that bore the piece, and the historical juxtapositions the work would seem to suggest.

  • SECRET SPACE THE DOCUMENTARY !! UFO S AND ALIENS !! LAST The one priesthood of Christ 1544 Everything that the priesthood of the Old Covenant prefigured finds its fulfillment in Christ Jesus, the "one mediator between God and men."15 The Christian tradition considers Melchizedek, "priest of God Most High," as a prefiguration of the priesthood of Christ, the unique "high priest after the order of Melchizedek";16 "holy, blameless, unstained,"17 "by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified,"18 that is, by the unique sacrifice of the cross. 1545 The redemptive sacrifice of Christ is unique, accomplished once for all; yet it is made present in the Eucharistic sacrifice of the Church. The same is true of the one priesthood of Christ; it is made present through the ministerial priesthood without diminishing the uniqueness of Christ's priesthood: "Only Christ is the true priest, the others being only his ministers."19 Two participations in the one priesthood of Christ 1546 Christ, high priest and unique mediator, has made of the Church "a kingdom, priests for his God and Father."20 The whole community of believers is, as such, priestly. The faithful exercise their baptismal priesthood through their participation, each according to his own vocation, in Christ's mission as priest, prophet, and king. Through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation the faithful are "consecrated to be . . . a holy priesthood."21 1547 The ministerial or hierarchical priesthood of bishops and priests, and the common ...
  • ELENA BAJO Performance at 179 C*** Part 1 Nothing More Than a Theatre of Fluctuating Ideas and Echoes of Future Moments (A New Refutation of Time), an experimental, itinerant, ever unfolding, site-specific performed sculpture, an abstract ensemble of philosophical texts de-coded into musical notes, improvised actions and choreographed movements. Having as a point of departure art production processes, working with places as they are given to her and limited by the materials available around them, Elena Bajo rearranges these found elements into a new composition, juxtaposing the identities of prefigured social and political spaces and dimensions, creating a sometimes cryptic but always revealing new code of signifiers. A re-staging of a space and time, of the past, into future events that uses chance, contingency and ambiguity of the moment. Elena Bajo is a spanish artist living and working between New York and Berlin. Her concept-generated practice is concerned with the social and political dimensions of everyday actions and common spaces, the strategies to conceptualize resistance, the poetics of ideologies, and the relationship between temporalities and subjectivities. She works individually and collectively across installation, performance, participatory events, video and writing. She has recently participated in projects at White Columns, New York (2009), Prague Festival, Prague (2009), Sculpture Center, LIC (2009), ISCP, New York (2009), Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin (2008) and was one of the ...

The Son's indictment of a certain soul who was to be condemned in the presence of the bride, and Christ's answer to the devil about why he permitted this soul and permits other evildoers to touch and take or receive his own true body. Book 2 - Chapter 2 SAINT BRIDGET PATRON SAINT OF EUROPE PART II The Son answered: "Blessed Mother, you know and see all things in me. Even though this soul kept you in mind, he did so more for the sake of his temporary than his spiritual welfare. He did not treat my most pure body as he should have. His foul mouth kept him from enjoying my charity. Worldly love and dissolution hid my suffering from him. His taking my pardon too much for granted and not thinking about his end accelerated his death. Although he received me continuously, it did not improve him much, because he did not prepare himself properly. A person who wishes to receive his noble Lord and guest should not only get the guest room ready but also all the utensils. This man did not do so, since, although he cleaned the house, he did not sweep it reverently with care. He did not strew the floor with the flowers of his virtues or fill the utensils of his limbs with abstinence. Therefore, you see well enough that what must be done to him is what he deserves. Although I may be invulnerable and beyond comprehension and am everywhere by reason of my divinity, my delight is in the pure, even if I enter the good and the damned alike. The good receive my body, which was crucified and ...
  • SWARMS OF UFO 'S SEOUL SOUTH KOREA MEXICO RUSSIA NEW YORK WORLDWIDE !! 1 EVIL II. BAPTISM IN THE ECONOMY OF SALVATION Prefigurations of Baptism in the Old Covenant 1217 In the liturgy of the Easter Vigil, during the blessing of the baptismal water, the Church solemnly commemorates the great events in salvation history that already prefigured the mystery of Baptism: Father, you give us grace through sacramental signs, which tell us of the wonders of your unseen power. In Baptism we use your gift of water, which you have made a rich symbol of the grace you give us in this sacrament.11 1218 Since the beginning of the world, water, so humble and wonderful a creature, has been the source of life and fruitfulness. Sacred Scripture sees it as "overshadowed" by the Spirit of God:12 At the very dawn of creation your Spirit breathed on the waters, making them the wellspring of all holiness.13 1219 The Church has seen in Noah's ark a prefiguring of salvation by Baptism, for by it "a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water":14 The waters of the great flood you made a sign of the waters of Baptism, that make an end of sin and a new beginning of goodness.15 1220 If water springing up from the earth symbolizes life, the water of the sea is a symbol of death and so can represent the mystery of the cross. By this symbolism Baptism signifies communion with Christ's death. 1221 But above all, the crossing of the Red Sea, literally the liberation of Israel from the slavery of Egypt, announces the liberation wrought by Baptism: You freed the children of ...
