  • Beyond Theology Mysticism Perennial Philosophy Charles Atkins, Jr 1 Beyond Theology Mysticism and the Perennial Philosophy hoasted by Charles Atkins, Jr According to Huxley, the perennial philosophy is: the metaphysic that recognizes a divine Reality substantial to the world of things and lives and minds; the psychology that finds in the soul something similar to, or even identical with, divine Reality; the ethic that places man's final end in the knowledge of the immanent and transcendent Ground of all being; the thing is immemorial and universal. Rudiments of the perennial philosophy may be found among the traditional lore of primitive peoples in every region of the world, and in its fully developed forms it has a place in every one of the higher religions (The Perennial Philosophy, p. vii).
  • Perennial Garden: Full Sun Perennial Flowers 3 things you need to know to have a great full sun perennial garden www.gardening-tips- from nurseryman and award winning garden author Doug Green. Great perennial gardens come down to plant selection, flower care and a few easily-learned gardening techniques. Adequate water is the first to ensure your plants thrive instead of just survive. A good layer of mulch is another trick that will keep a good level of soil moisture and help perennial plants grow. This may not be appropriate for gardens in damper climates where the mulch encourages snails but it clearly works in the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions. There are a range of other environmental techniques specific to the region and individual perennial plants and these are best learned from local experts. This video points out three of the best do it yourself tips for perennial garden success. Note that new perennial flowers are reviewed at
  • Perennial Garden: Shade perennials 3 things you need to know to grow great perennial flowers in the shade www.gardening-tips- for more articles on shade gardening. The major problem gardeners have with shade - besides the lack of sunlight - is a lack of water. When trees are providing the garden shade, they are very greedy with water and will starve and out-compete most plants. Tree roots are very efficient so it is necessary to give the trees their 1.5 inches of water and the perennials their 1.5 inches. Instead of watering then to 1-2 inches of water, you're going to have to provide 2-3 inches of water to keep both plants happy. The other thing that shade gardeners sometimes moan about is the lack of flowers on many shade plants. Let me simply say that perennial flowers for the shade make up with smaller flowers by having much more colorful leaves. These leaves provide a season-long show in our gardens rather than a burst-and-gone display. Another issue that's sometimes brought up is the lack of perennials for the shade. This isn't true although many garden centers pretend it is by not stocking great shade plants. I've written about a few of them on my perennial website above and review new perennial flowers at

  • Perennial Flowers Growing Lavender 3 tips on how to successfully grow lavender by professional herbalist. Other tips can be found here www.gardening-tips- on garden author Doug Green's perennial flower website. This amazingly fragrant herb is one of those plants that loves the full hot sunshine and well-drained rocky soils where this lavender farm is located. The lavender plant has been growing in herb gardens for centuries and used as an antiseptic, aphrodisiac and a range of other uses that may or may not be a reason to grow. The fragrance is one of the top 5 most-used fragrances in the world, adding its magic to all manner of products. Full sun, very well drained soils (clay soils kill this plant) and moderate climates for the most part. This garden is however in Canada and quite cold. Listen as the grower explains his techniques for overwintering this tender plant. The fun thing about growing lavender is there is no reason to spray it for anything - it's an organic gardeners best friend. So grow this herb for its fragrance as well as its culinary value (lavender cookies are to die-for!) :-) If you want to see my ebook on Growing Lavender, it's here

  • How to Plant a Perennial Garden - Garden Club Select Perennials are plants that return each spring and bloom year after year. With the help of Lowe's, you can create a visually appealing and fragrant garden. Garden Club Select perennials are Lowe's plants that are recent introductions and have been selected for their special characteristics. These are outlined on the plant tag, which is a valuable source of information and will aid you in becoming a more successful gardener. Step 1 -- Selecting the Plants The five different Garden Club Select Dianthus perennials used in this video are very free blooming and will bloom from early spring to late summer. This garden will use 25 plants, using 5 of each type of Dianthus. Avoid using only one type of plant. Step 2 -- Place the Plants Set the plants on the ground where they will be planted. Move them around until you are satisfied with the look. Refer to the plant tag for the spacing. Avoid straight lines and geometric shapes when planting Dianthus, unless you are looking for a more formal look. Step 3 -- Planting Dig the holes twice as wide and once as deep as the pot. Set the top of the root bowl even with the top of the soil. If you are using a planting mix combine it with the soil and backfill it to ground level. Tamp, lightly fertilize, water and mulch. • Eric Toensmeier, author of Perennial Vegetables, tours his perennial root crop. The garden that never stops giving. There is a fantastic array of vegetables you can grow in your garden, and not all of them are annuals. In Perennial Vegetables the adventurous gardener will find information, tips, and sound advice on less common edibles that will make any garden a perpetual, lowmaintenance source of food. Imagine growing vegetables that require just about the same amount of care as the flowers in your perennial beds and borders--no annual tilling and planting. They thrive and produce abundant and nutritious crops throughout the season. It sounds too good to be true, but in Perennial Vegetables author and plant specialist Eric Toensmeier (Edible Forest Gardens) introduces gardeners to a world of little-known and wholly underappreciated plants. Ranging beyond the usual suspects (asparagus, rhubarb, and artichoke) to include such "minor" crops as ground cherry and ramps (both have found their way onto exclusive restaurant menus) and the much sought-after, antioxidant-rich wolfberry (also known as goji berries), Toensmeier explains how to raise, tend, harvest, and cook with plants that yield great crops and satisfaction. Perennial vegetables are perfect as part of an edible landscape plan or permaculture garden. Profiling more than a hundred species, with dozens of color photographs and illustrations, and filled with valuable growing tips, recipes, and resources, Perennial Vegetables is a groundbreaking and ground-healing book that will open the eyes of ...
  • Perennial Garden Flowers Award Wining Favorites The descriptions for these perennial garden flowers are all found at www.gardening-tips- written by garden author Doug Green. These plants have all been given the Perennial Plant Assoc "Perennial Flower of the Year" award and are some of my favorite garden plants. These perennials are long-blooming and survive in the toughest of garden zones with no protection and little care other than deadheading to remove spent flowers. All of these plants are described for bloom time, hardiness, height and the amount of sunlight they require. Echinacea or coneflower is a marvellous long-blooming, tough perennial garden flower that now comes in a wide variety of colors. Do not allow them to flower in their first year from the nursery to make them bone-hardy. Allowing them to flower delays extensive root formation and creates a more tender plant that may not survive it's first winter. Veronica sunny border blue is a very long blooming perennial flower that is a marvellous shade of blue flower. Perovskia or Russian Sage is a tough plant for a very well drained location in full sun. It makes an excellent combination plant with Echinacea as they bloom at the same time. Black Eyed Susan (brown eyed susan) or Rudbeckia Goldsturm is a superb plant that is well-behaved and reliably tough. Blooming for a very long time in late summer, this perennial plant belongs in every perennial border. Hellebore or Christmas Rose is a superb plant for the part shade to shade garden and is one ...

  • Perennial Garden Tour This was a quick tour of my perennial garden (and annuals and vegetables) that go around the outside of our pool. We live in Sudbury, Ontario and the video was taken on June 21st. I hope to do a few more of the vegetable garden and later in the season. I didn't name all the flowers we have but just ask if you want to know one. And I kept skipping over the large Phlox bushes because I couldn't remember what they were called. Many of the perennials were transplanted from other parts of the garden or from under where the pool is now. We bought some from a nursery and also from the Horticultural Society plant sale. I hope you enjoy the tour.

  • New Paper Released About Perennial Wheat Perennial grains--one of the largest innovations in the 10000 year history of agriculture--could be here in the next two decades, according to scientists from Washington State University and other institutions writing in the current issue of Science. The crops, which reestablish themselves every growing season, can be raised with less fertilizer, herbicide, fuel, and erosion than grains planted annually. They're particularly promising as half the world's growing population lives off marginal land at risk of being degraded by annual grain production.
  • The Butterfly Garden and Perennial Flowers Butterfly gardens and some perennial flower plants for them www.gardening-tips- for the full list. This live butterfly garden plant list has to take into account that there are two stages to the butterflies life. The second is the one we all love - watching butterflies flit around our perennial gardens and (hopefully) landing near enough to us we can appreciate them in their lovely coloring. If you'd like help identifying your butterflies go to where there are several page of live butterflies to help you sort out your insect. The most important thing to understand though is the first stage of the live butterfly garden is a caterpillar. And this stage eats perennial flowers. So identify the plant the caterpillars want to eat (you can't have butterflies without caterpillars) and plant them at the back of the garden. In this way, the caterpillars get to eat and you don't see the damage. Also, by giving them their preferred plants, we hope they'll leave your good ones alone. The last component of the butterfly garden is water. Sinking an old garden can lid in the garden so the top is even to the soil - filling it back up with soil and then keeping this area free of weeds but constantly muddy will give this insect a place to drink in the garden. Do this during the heat of the summer and you're going to find yourself home to more and more butterflies over the years.
  • Death - Perennial Quest Symbolic is the sixth album by American death metal band Death. The album was released on March 21, 1995 through Roadrunner Records. The album was remastered and reissued on April 1, 2008 with five bonus tracks. Like its predecessors, the album is progressive and technically advanced. It is notable that the average song length on this album is around five minutes, while it was around four minutes on Human and Individual Thought Patterns, perhaps due to slowed down song tempos closer to that of traditional death metal. As a result, the album was not quite as "technical" as its predecessors but more straightforward, "progressive". No video was released for the album, but "Empty Words" was released as a single. The song "Symbolic" was covered by Scariot on their Momentum Shift album. Metal- ranks the album as the seventh greatest extreme metal album and the 58th greatest heavy metal album of all time. • Perennial Flowers Award Winning Hakonechloa Perennial Flower of the Year 2009 is Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' www.gardening-tips- here's how to grow it and say it. This wonderful Japanese grass is perfect for the shade flower garden and is quite hardy up into USDA zone 4 This grass is readily available in garden centers and you'll be able to find several different varieties of it in better garden shops. It's perfect for organic growing as it doesn't have any significant pests or problems. It does prefer a bit of extra moisture in my garden and I wouldn't consider it a drought resistant plant by any means. Cut it to the ground in the spring and it will quickly regrow into a gorgeous specimen for summer enjoyment.
