Negros Oriental Provincial Jail Eco-KALAN Presentation, Dumaguete City, Philippines, April 8, 2011 The Negros Oriental Detention and Rehabilitation Center is a provincial jail managed under the Office of the Governor in the Province of Negros Oriental, Philippines. It is one of the two jails in Dumaguete City and resembles a ghetto community. Negotiations between the Province of Negros Oriental and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Department of Interior and Local Government of the Philippines are taking place for the transfer of the facility to BJMP. At present, the provincial jail has 208 inmates and many boarders -- families of inmates from towns and communities far from Dumaguete City. These boarders, including small children, live within the prison compound in tiny shacks without drinkable water supply and adequate sanitary facilities. The inmates are confined to their cells from 5 PM to 7AM and at mealtimes. During the day, the inmates are out of their cells performing jail duties such as housekeeping, cooking and serving food, collecting firewood, building and yard maintenance, etc. The majority of the inmates are detained for drug related offences and many are young adults. The eco-KALAN presentation to the provincial jail kitchens and selected inmates is an eco-KALAN Project done in collaboration with the Chaplain Prison Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Dumaguete under Father Burton Villarmente. JAILBREAK CONCERT AD (part2) - A joint project by ACPW and BJMP - Davao.avi It is a call for all to support the Jailbreak Concert, a unique event where selected Davao City jail detainees will go outside to perform a musical concert organized by the Archdiocesan Commission on Prison Welfare (ACPW) in coordination with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Jailbreak Concert is slated to be shown on April 4, 2009. The concert will be a simple local musical event at Davao City but it is hoped to inspire humanity.
