  • Biblical Movie of King Solomon 13 18 Thebiblical accounts identify Solomon as the son of David. He is also called Jedidiah in 2 Samuel 12:25, and is described as the third king of the United Monarchy, and the final king before the northern Kingdom of Israel and the southern Kingdom of Judah split; following the split his patrilineal descendants ruled over Judah alone. The Bible accredits Solomon as the builder of the First Temple in Jerusalem, and portrays him as great in wisdom, wealth, and power, but ultimately as a king whose sin, including idolatry and turning away from God, leads to the kingdom being torn in two during the reign of his son Rehoboam. Solomon is the subject of many other later references and legends.

  • Rabbi Jason Miller interviewed by Punk Torah for Sh'ma "Sh'ma: a Journal of Jewish Responsibilty" asked three panelists to respond to a statement by Punk Torah creators Patrick Aleph and Michael Sabani. Rabbi Jason Miller wrote the response below and was then interviewed by Aleph and Sabani via Skype. Rabbi Jason: "Jewish identity is a tricky subject. We have no consensus on how to define it, what it should feel like, or to what extent it should be particularistic. I find that Judaism has much wisdom to offer, both to adherents of the faith and to the rest of the world. I'm often, therefore, baffled by our numbers — that we account for such a small fraction of the population. Should we worry more about monotheism, as Michael Sabani and Patrick Aleph suggest? Should we worry less about the cultural components of our peoplehood? These are decisions that each individual "member of the tribe" must make. Some Jews will be enthralled with bagels and lox on Sunday mornings, federation meetings, Seinfeld reruns, and B'nai Brith softball. Other Jews will recharge their spiritual batteries in traditional synagogue life. Some will look to Jewish summer camp as their source of Jewishness, and for other people it will be the connection to the State of Israel. We are a club, but we're not sure who is included and who decides our boundaries. It is good for us to stand out as tribally different, but we should also count our blessings that we are included in the larger fabric as well."

  • Medieval Times - The Nobility THE NOBILITY DURING THE MIDDLE AGES European nobility originated in the feudal/seignorial system that arose in Europe during the Middle Ages. Originally, knights or nobles were mounted warriors who swore allegiance to their sovereign and promised to fight for him in exchange for an allocation of land (usually together with serfs living thereon). During the time period known as the Military Revolution, nobles gradually lost their role in raising and commanding private armies, as many nations created cohesive national armies. This was coupled with a loss of the socio-economic power of the nobility, owing to the economic changes of the Renaissance and the growing economic importance of the merchant classes (or bourgeoisie), which increased still further during the Industrial Revolution. In countries where the nobility was the dominant class, the bourgeoisie gradually grew in power; a rich city merchant came to be more influential than a nobleman, and the latter sometimes sought inter-marriage with families of the former to maintain their noble lifestyles. However, in many countries at this time, the nobility retained substantial political importance and social influence; for instance, the UK's government was dominated by the nobility until the middle of the 19th century. Thereafter the powers of the nobility were progressively reduced by legislation (see Reform of the House of Lords). RANK WITHIN NOVILITY The nobility of a person might be either inherited or conferred by a ...

Obama debunks claim about Islamic school Calls the reports 'scurrilous'; Jakarta school open to all faiths The Associated Press updated 1:29 pm PT, Thurs., Jan. 25, 2007 WASHINGTON - Sen. Barack Obama fought back against an allegation that he was educated at a radical Islamic school as a child in Indonesia, determined to avoid being tripped up by unsubstantiated charges like those that undermined John Kerry in 2004. Interviews by The Associated Press at the elementary school in Jakarta found that it's a public and secular institution that has been open to students of all faiths since before the White House hopeful attended in the late 1960s. Obama, who was born in Hawaii, moved to Indonesia at age 6 to live with his mother and stepfather, attending schools in the country until age 10, when he returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents. "The allegations are completely baseless," said Akmad Solichin, the vice principal at SDN Menteng 1, who added, "Yes, most of our students are Muslim, but there are Christians as well. Everyone's welcome here ... it's a public school." A spokesman for Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs said claims that Obama studied at an Islamic school ...

  • Obama Is A Muslim / Video Obama Is A Muslim Based on 36 Facts - Part 1. On January 24 2007, the Obama campaign released the following statement, "To be clear, Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ in Chicago. On March 14th, in a statement to The Times, the Obama campaign corrected that statement with this: "Obama has never been a practicing Muslim. The statement added that as a child, Obama had spent time in the neighborhood's Islamic center." In two months the Obama Campaign has gone from describing the US presidential hopeful as never having been a Muslim and never having been raised as a Muslim to now having never having been a practicing Muslim. Islam is patrilineal. Patrilineality is a system in which one belongs to one's father's lineage. In Islam, religion passes from the father to the child. For Muslims, the fact that Obama was born to a line of Muslim males makes him born a Muslim. Obama's father was a Muslim. Obama's grandfather was a Muslim. Obama's stepfather was a Muslim. Sarah, who Obama calls grandmother, is a Muslim. Obama's half-brothers and sisters are Muslims. To Muslims, Obama is a Muslim, no matter what he says. Obama's sister Maya was quoted by the New York Times as saying, "My whole family was Muslim." One assumes she considers Obama a member of her family. After all, she refers to him as "my brother." Barack Hussein Obama, Senior, born 1936 died 1982 -- was a Muslim who named his ...
  • Genealogist Lloyd Bockstruck @ The Allen Public Library Genealogist Lloyd Bockstruck discusses genealogical trends and methodologies at Allen Public Library Monday, July 26 2010, 300 N. Allen Dr. Sponsored by the Friends of the Allen Public Library's Bach to Books Cultural Art Series and the Allen Senior Genealogy Club. After a deathbed request from my mother to place a marker on her father's grave, I pursued genealogy. A US Army veteran, my grandfather died from injuries sustained in World War One. Unfortunately, my mother did not know where he was buried. The Dallas Public Library's Genealogy section taught me how to research death and burial records which eventually led me to his grave site. That discovery inspired me to continue to learn more about my ancestors, a quest that ultimately led me as back as the Holy Roman Empire. Genealogy is the study of family ancestries or histories and can lead to discovering fascinating stories. For example, if your ancestor was a Hessian soldier paid by the British to fight the American colonists, you might unearth some previously unknown facts. You may discover how your family members originated from Pennsylvania, which had a large population of German-Americans at that time, and how many of these Hessians deserted the British and later fought for the Americans. For some, genealogy helps honor ancestors, and for others, it provides a historical context to build your own story. Both proved true for me. For over 30 years, Lloyd was manager of the Dallas Public Library's genealogy section ...
  • Toumani Diabaté~Elyne Road Toumani Diabaté~Elyne Road Toumani Diabaté~Kora From ´The Mandé Variations´ ~Elyne Road~ (Trad Kora, sauta tuning) "This is my own composition and it's my first recording of it. The melody was inspired by UB 40's recording of Kingstown Town that I first heard when I spent time in London in the late 80;s as I listened, I heard a Bamana phrase in my head that fit to the melody: 'You are as beautiful as the honey that sweetens the porridge'. This tune stayed in my head for a long time and I had to turn it into a kora piece. I decided to call it Elyne Road, after a street in London where I played it for the parents of Nick Gold - One memorable night." Toumani Diabaté The kora is a West African harp-lute with a deep and delicate sound. It can be played as a solo instrument, accompanying songs or in any musical ensemble. Thanks to the richness of its history and to the great diversity of its performers, it can naturally be associated to any interdisciplinal or cross-cultural project; because of its unique sound qualities and of its specific playing technique, the kora may also be a valious support for meditation and self-awakening. In the following lines, you will find a historic panorama of the instrument, from its legendary origins to its contemporary fulfillments; you will cross the path of a great King who fought a musician Genius in the middle of a river; of great kora players like Lamine Konte, Foday Musa Suso or Toumani Diabate who spreaded the fame of the African harp ...

  • Josephine Nzerem - Human Angle Josephine Nzerem launched Human Angle to help Nigerian women defend their rights against the side-effects of a patrilineal society. Josephine NzeremJosephine Nzerem noticed that most women don't know much about the couple's property and bank accounts, as most assets are in the husband's name. "When only your brother-in-law knows who owns what and where the papers are, you don't even know what you have been disinherited from," she tells Global X as she holds her daughter playing with her mobile phone. Her organization teaches couples to write a will to protect widows and their children, and provides pro-bono access to lawyers as in the case of a woman whose husband recently died of AIDS. "She had paid for the hospital bills, not the family. She had five children. And her in-laws came to take the apartment where the couple had lived for 30 years. It was her only home!" Josephine Nzerem, who became an Ashoka Fellow in 2002, strongly believe in passion as a tool to succeed. "There will be challenges, difficulties, and people trying to discourage you," she tells Global X. "But look into the heart, keep the passion alive and you can surmount any mountains. If you don't have the passion, you have lost the walk. Keep the passion alive!"

  • Revamping My YouTube Channel and Explaining Why I Had To Revamp It I had to recreate my YouTube channel and all because people wouldn't look into what I was talking about. I have defended actual Black-colored and Black Jews, White-colored and White Jews, and other Jews. I myself am a White Jew, a Patrilineal Jew of White descent. Meanwhile, as I said, I wouldn't have had to recreate it if I could. Since I have nowhere to go and nobody to help me, I'm stuck. I know that many people will think me a coward- believe that I wish that I were rather dead or Raptured than having to censor myself in order to get through the rest of my life and college years at present. But what else can I do?
