An interview with Thomas G. Long, author of Accompany Them With Singing - The Christian Funeral Thomas G. Long, one of Americas most trusted and thoughtful pulpit voices, provides a theological and cultural critique of todays Christian funeral. Long begins by describing how the Christian funeral developed historically, theologically, and liturgically, and then discusses recent cultural trends in funeral practices, including the rise in both cremations and memorial services. He describes the basic pattern for a funeral service, details options in funeral planning, identifies characteristics of a good funeral, and provides thoughtful guidance for preaching at a funeral. But Long also notes a disturbing trend toward funeral services that seem theologically right and pastorally caring, but actually depart from the primary aims of the Christian funeral constructed around the metaphor of the deceased as a saint traveling on a baptismal journey toward God, accompanied by the community of faith on the last mile of the way. He argues that the cultural conditions for maintaining this view are under stress and a new, less-theological and less-satisfying metaphor that focuses on the mourner has begun to erode the Christian view. He contrasts the ancient grand community drama with todays trend toward body-less memorial services that focus primarily on the living and grief management. Catholicism 201 - Week 8 Clip Theres no getting around this one. It is t***! The issues are broken into two categories: ***uality and life issues. The issue of artificial birth control is used to demonstrate the principles that underlie the Catholic understanding of human ***uality. The issue of abortion is used to demonstrate the principles related to other life issues (embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, the death penalty, Just War theory). The presentation on abortion features a slide show to music that includes several disturbing images. An advisory is given by the presenter. No small group questions are included with this presentation. It is recommended that a priest or someone knowledgeable in these issues be present afterwards to facilitate a large group discussion. It is important that this person be especially pastorally sensitive to participants, but at the same time clear and faithful with regard to the teaching of the Church. The Church of The Blessed Virgin Mary Old Dilton Wiltshire This ancient church, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, formerly served the once flourishing wool producing community of Dilton. Services were held here regularly until 1844. Since that time worship has been conducted occasionally, the main service being the annual Harvest Thanksgiving.The church remained in the care of the parish until 1973 when it was declared pastorally redundant, and in 1974 vested in the care of the Redundant Churches Fund. This video begins with Fr. Pavone saying that "One of the things we do when we give a homily on abortion is to fulfill St Paul's exhortation in Ephesians 5 where he says, "Have nothing to do with the fruitless works of darkness but rather expose them." We expose abortion, for example, as we have already discussed, by showing how unsafe it is, how unregulated the abortion industry is, and how much harm it does to women. We also expose it by using one of the phrases that by research has proven to be one of the most effective for people, and that is that "abortion stops a beating heart."" In order to "counteract the notion that the choice has no effect except to solve a problem and to answer the question that so often remains unanswered "the choice of what?", Fr. Pavone will include the following in his homily: "Here is the choice, that today in America 4000 children are living and growing in their mothers' wombs, their hearts are beating, and tomorrow they are scheduled to be killed. I don't know about you, but this papist is going to strive for "that profound attitude of the man who prostrates himself before God", because "that is what the Pope wants." In an interview granted this Sunday to Spanish daily La Razón, the new Prefect of Divine Worship, Cardinal Cañizares Llovera, had this to say on an important liturgical matter: [La Razón:] Nevertheless, Benedict XVI has reiterated in some instances the propriety of receiving communion kneeling and in the mouth. Is it something important, or is it a mere matter of form? [Cañizares:] - No, it is not just a matter of form. What does it mean to receive communion in the mouth? What does it mean to kneel before the Most Holy Sacrament? What dies it mean to kneel during the consecration at Mass? It means adoration, it means recognizing the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist; it means respect and an attitude of faith of a man who prostrates before God because he knows that everything comes from Him, and we feel speechless, dumbfounded, before the wondrousness, his goodness, and his mercy. Benedict XVI comes to the Holy Land to deepen its Christian presence, bishop says Rome, Italy, May 7, 2009 / 02:01 pm (CNA).- Auxiliary Bishop Giacinto Boulos Marcuzzo of Jerusalem said during a recent interview that Pope Benedict XVI, who begins his historic visit to the Holy Land this Friday, is going to the region to confirm his brethren in the faith, to deepen the roots of the Christian presence there, and to strengthen our relations with others. In an interview with the magazine LAzione, the bishop explained, Now we still have many problems, but there is less violence right now than before. The proof is in the great number of pilgrims who are visiting our land. There is climate of non-violence, he said. For this reason, he explained, the Popes visit could contribute to improving the atmosphere and the trust between Israelis and Palestinians. He said the Pontiffs trip, while important from a diplomatic point of view, will be more important pastorally and spiritually for Holy Land. Commenting later about relations between the Church and Judaism, Bishop Marcuzzo said there have been recent tensions, but that the Popes trip would help to calm the waters in our relations. The Popes visit will show how close Christians and Jews are.

Devotion To Lotion Devotion To Lotion TEXT: Devotion to Lotion Here is the chronology of deep devotion to lotion which began in motion in the old Chevy, on the way to the ocean as Mom rubbed the Lotion potion on my skin-very soothing! Fast forward to the inner sanctum of the Examination Room of the Doctor's Office. The lotion is in the basket, so I commit the "Crime of the Century" by placing the lotion (with one motion), in my pocket. Pass the prune juice! From a distance I hear the screams of a chubby, floppy girl pleading for her life as Neves, the "Buffalo Woman", lowers the basket; he is definitely in "the zone"!
