How do we taste? The Professor explains, once again, and much faster and more completely, how the sense of taste works. He answers the question we all ask: How *do* we taste? Salty? Sweet? Well, what does that mean? And: How do we actually taste? How does it work? What are the mechanics of taste? The physics? The chemistry? What are chemo-receptors? How does smell affect taste? Does the latin word "papillae" really mean nipple, or could it be translated as "bud"? It's knowledge! Science! It's fast and it's furious. Just the way you like it. The Professor Show: You want to learn. You don't have time. Here is a solution! Knowledge in 90 seconds... fast.
Unilateral Apically Positioned Papilla or Gingival Margin Asymmetry created by apically positioned gingival margins or papillae can often be the pivotal element for the esthetics of the smile. Creating symmetry can always be accomplished in two ways, moving some things apically or moving other things coronally. Making that decision is a blend of facially generated treatment planning and discussions with the patient. This course illustrates the process of discovery and the treatment of such a case.

Hygiene refers to the set of practices perceived by a community to be associated with the preservation of health and healthy living. While in modern medical sciences there is a set of standards of hygiene recommended for different situations, what is considered hygienic or not can vary between different cultures, genders and etarian groups. Some regular hygienic practices may be considered good habits by a society while the neglect of hygiene can be considered disgusting, disrespectful or even threatening.

Roger Hanlon Part 1: Concepts and Questions Hanlon introduces the amazing adaptive coloration of cephalopods. He uses video and still photography to showcase their ability to rapidly change color, pattern and skin texture with fine control and a diversity of appearances, to produce camouflage or to send signals. He argues that all camouflage patterns in nature can be grouped into three types. In part 2, Hanlon shows us results from his lab that make a convincing case that the rapid adaptive coloration of cephalopods is controlled by their visual system; quite impressive for a color-blind animal! Part 3 focuses on the unique skin of cephalopods including the system of pigments and reflectors that allows it to quickly change to any hue and contrast, and the papillae musculature that allows the skin to deform and create multiple 3D textures.

English: Category A - full version without watermark 720x576 (check terms and conditions at ) The embed version with watermark is free of charge. - Description: At a first glance the tongue seems nothing more than a helpful tool for food intake. The back of the tongue is divided into two halves and coated with a relatively rough and thick mucosa. At a closer look, one discovers blood vessels, neurons and numerous small glands, providing constant rinsing with saliva. Saliva contains enzymes for digestion and immune defense. On the mucosa there are so called papillae. Some of them are responsible for mechanical tasks, some see to taste. All papillae are surrounded by a moat. There, little "rinsing" glands and also the taste buds are situated. Normally the tongue cleans itself by chewing solid food and constant rinsing from the little glands. If this natural process is disturbed by disease or poor diet, a white film forms from debris, mucus and micro-organisms.

How the Body Works : Taste Centers Taste Centers The taste centers are in the cortex and in the thalamus of the brain. The organ of taste is the tongue. The surface of the tongue is covered with thousands of tiny fronds or papillae, which give it a velvety sheen. The taste buds, the primary organs of taste, are found within these papillae. There are four type of papillae-filiform, fungiform, foliate and vallate. Filiform and fungiform papillae are found on the front half of the tongue, and foliate papillae at the back. Filiform are threadlike in shape and more numerous than the mushroom-shaped fungiform type. Vallate papillae form a V across the back of the tongue. The base of the tongue is devoid of papillae, but is covered with nodules of lymphoid tissue, which make up the lingual tonsil. A taste bud consists of taste cells, with hairs that project into the moats surrounding the papillae, supporting cells and nerves. The salivary glands are connected by nerves to the taste buds. Stimulation of the taste buds stimulates the salivary glands to produce saliva.

I got gooed by a peripatus Peripatus or velvet worms are little-known nocturnal creatures living in damp forest in New Zealand. Some species have striking colours and textures. Nocturnal and virtually sightless, they recognise prey using their sensitive antennae, and squirt it with a gooey fluid from glands called oral papillae on each side of the head. The twin streams trap the victim in glue.
Bitter Cyanide Cake This is a project for AP Psychology. The "Viewer Discretion Advised" is a joke. This is our first video, and it is a song based on the perception of taste. We used the song "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley, but we found the courage to rick roll our class and teacher and made them believe we were doing "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. We got a flat out 100 for this project, and had lots of fun making the lyrics and choreographing a simple but effective dance. Special thanks to Sarah Malhotra for recording without consent :-). Here are the lyrics: Were no strangers to taste The sweetness of that cherry pie Taste buds send thmessage to my tempral lobe No sensation without my saliva I just wanna tell you what Im craving Gotta eat that pie right now I dont wanna give it up I dont wanna let it down I dont wanna pass it up for dessert, babe Never gonna taste that pie Might as well just say goodbye Never gonna satisfy my papillae That sweet pie must have calories But I still want it and Im about to steal it Took a bite and its really made of cheese Its so sour that I start to vomit I cant believe that its spoiled cheese I guess that Im too blind to see It was never cherry pie Never gonna get it right Gotta eat a coffee cake for dessert, babe Overload my papillae With a heavy bitter taste So the sour flavor can dissipate Even though my tongue stings bad Theres no reason to be sad Over a sour pie for dessert, babe Because my receptors heal In a week its no big deal Even ...

The Science of Taste - KQED QUEST Did you know that about 95 percent of what we think is taste is actually smell? Or that the way we perceive flavor comes from a complex relationship between our senses, emotions, and memories? Those are just two of the surprising facts QUEST uncovers in 'The Science of Taste.' As scientists decode how our taste and olfactory receptors work, top California chefs are taking that knowledge and creating alchemy in the kitchen
