He finds the ***pit incredible small with very little workingspace - about 25% less than in a Spitfire. The very heavy and cramped canopy might have been designed with "the Kaisers" helmet in mind. On the plus-side he is very satisfied with the elevator trim wheel to the left, and the throttle grip. The undercarriage control are well positioned nicely to hand just in front of the trim wheel - the best ***pit feature - coparative to the Spitfire. The panel is very fine, and he especially likes the artificial horizon which can be locked during heavy maneouvers. Its a much more businesslike instrument than that of the Spitfires. The engine gauges and the fuel gauge are well positioned and easy to read. The bridge of the cannon, which fires through the spinner, takes up an enormous space of the ***pit. Other than that he returns to his first impression of a very small and cramped ***pit and the good details cannot change the end verdict of the ***pit: "It's Terrible!" Tony Bianchi examines the "Gustav" from the outside. He is impressed by the well built airframe. He calls the plane a second monocoque aircraft, that is much esier to manufacture than the Spitfire. As war was declared in September 1939, nine*** and a half squadrons were equipped with Spitfires. The first Spitfires had a fixed two-bladed propeller, the next had a three-bladed fixed propeller and from 1940 the following a variable pitch three- bladed propeller. This needed a special unit, that was bought from the US , as it by chance matched the Merlin perfectly. Paul Day, who flies modern jetfighters, examines a Spitfire Mark 1,and immidiately points out the undesireable position of the throttle to the left and the flaps control to the right, which meant, that the pilot had to shift hand immidiately after take off. Otherwise he was reasonably satisfied with the controls and instrumentation, while he was very unhappy with the pilots restricted vision from the ***pit compared to the vision from modern fighterplanes. He found the plane light and agile and compared to other WW2 fighters well up in its class with its clear benefit of the excellent variable pitch propeller. Softball player carried around bases by opponents The footage was taken by Sue Wallin, a parent at the game. Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon is up to bat against Central Washington. The video picks up as Tucholsky hits her first ever - in her life - home run. Just past 1st base, she tears a ligament in her knee and is unable to run any further. The umpires state that if her teammates or coaches assist her she will be declared out and if a pinch runner is substitued for her, her homer will be declared a single. Hearing this, Central Washington's Mallory Holtman and Liz Wallace offer to carry her around the bases. Thus ends Tucholsky's softball season and career.

The fuel could instantly change the plane into a blazing fire, he had less than 10 seconds to get out from, and at speeds in excess of 140 mph it was dfficult to open the canopy. The possibility of a sudden death was'nt nearly as frightening as to die in a burning plane. The strategical winner of the battle was Air Marshall Hugh Dowding , and the tactical winner was Air Vice Marshall Keith Park . The strategical and tactical looser was Hermann Göring . It is not often published, but many pilots from the occupied Europe played their vital part in defending Britain during the battle.
