- 1992 DEREK REDMOND AND THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT (DAD HELPS HIM ACROSS THE FINISH LINE)) 1992 DEREK REDMOND THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT. He is best remembered for his performance at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona where he tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final but fought through the pain and, with assistance from his father, managed to complete a full lap of the track as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. The incident has become a well-remembered moment in Olympic history, having been the subject of one of the International Olympic Committee's 'Celebrate Humanity' videos and been used in advertisements by Visa as an illustration of the Olympic spirit and featured in Nike's "Courage" commercials in 2008.

Still the Danes would not give up, and with a last chance vital goal, now Denmark and Korea would decide on a penalty shoot-out. - London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay: The lighting ceremony in Olympia With just 78 days until the London 2012 Games begin and under sunny skies, the Olympic flame has been lit in Ancient Olympia during a ceremony organized by the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The flame was created using the sun's rays and a parabolic mirror by the high Priestess -- Ino Menegaki -- at the Temple of Hera. It was then carried into the Ancient Olympic Stadium in a choreographed procession before being used to light the torch of the first torchbearer - British-born Greek open water swimming world champion and three-time Olympian Spyros Gianniotis. The flame will now be taken on an eight-day relay around Greece before being handed over to the London 2012 Organising Committee during a ceremony in Athens at the Panathenaic stadium, ahead of it being taken back to Great Britain, where the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay -- presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung -- gets underway on 19 May.

- Powerful Inspirational true story...Don't give up! When you don't give up..You cannot fail!! I want to say a BIG thank you to 'everyone' who has commented on the inspiration that they've received from this video. When I put this video together I was following my heart to inspire 'Whoever' might be discouraged to... "Not Give Up!" However, I have received the most from this posting, Life has a strange way of supporting us in our time of need. I did not know when I posted this video that 'exactly a year to the day' my daughter would die in a tragic car accident and that my spirit would be fed from the countless strangers who have directly (or indirectly) motivated me to continue forward. May we all spread the message of hope "Don't Give Up"! Warmest wishes, Connie Lynne

- The man with Charisma - Mark Todd - Equestrian - Seoul 1988 Olympic Games Until the arrival of Mark Todd, no rider from New Zealand had ever placed in the top 20 in an individual event, much less come close to winning a medal. Todd was a 28-year-old dairy farmer who sold much of his herd to finance his Olympic quest. Previously, at the Los Angeles 1984 Games, Todd and his beloved horse, Charisma, were in second place after the dressage and endurance portions of the three-day event. Four years later, at the Seoul 1988 Olympics, Todd and Charisma (at age 16) led the field in both the dressage and endurance stages, then knocked over just one fence to become only the second repeat winners of the three-day event. Mark Todd would later take part of the Barcelona 1992, Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in Sydney.
