  • Bragança (Portugal) jorgetavares.planetaclix.pt Bragança (Portugal) is a city and a municipality in north-eastern Portugal and the capital of the district of Bragança, in Alto Trás-os-Montes. The population of the municipality is 34774and its total area is 1173.6 kmª. It lies on a branch of the Sabor River south of the Culebra Mountains, 255 km northeast of Porto, 515 km from Lisbon and 22 km. from the Spanish border. The city is at an elevation of 700m. The seat of the municipality is the city of Bragança, which consists of two parishes (Sé and Santa Maria) and has a population of about 21000. The neighbouring municipalities are Vimioso in the southeast, Macedo de Cavaleiros in the southwest and Vinhais in the west. The city has a small airport. Originally Bragança was a Celtic city known as Brigantia, the name of a celtic goddess, it later romanized its name to the present form. Historically the city has been important as the seat of the House of Bragança, which provided the kings of Portugal from 1640 to 1910 and the emperors of Brazil from 1822 to 1889; their feudal castle (built 1187) still remains. Catherine of Bragança became the queen consort (1662) of Charles II of England. An episcopal see, Bragança was the capital of the historical Trás-os-Montes province. Attractions Notable landmarks in the city include the 12th-century Domus Municipalis (Portugal's oldest and largest town hall), the Renaissance cathedral, and the old town walls, which are still well preserved and look down on ...
  • FORT ERIE MAYOR on THE ACCOUNTABILITY BOTTOMLINE MISSISSAUGA WATCH Blog: Fort Erie was one of only 20 Ontario municipalities to allow its citizens a legitimate "closed meeting" investigation by the Ontario Ombudsman. As of January 17th, the Region of Niagara Council also voted in favour of allowing their citizens access to the Ombudsman's office bringing the number to just 21. As a dismal reflection on the state of Ontario hypocritical municipal governance, 112 Ontario municipalities have hired "investigators" through the Association of Ontario Municipalties (AMO) --and their "subsidiary corporation", Local Authority Services. Some municipalities are charging their residents as much as $250 for these AMO-approved hired-and-inspired "investigators". It gets worse. A few municipalities like Brampton and Ottawa preferred to choose their own "investigator" --period. Ottawa, for example, hired its former city solicitor. In the case of Brampton, its citizens get to fork over $250 to launch an "investigation" using Brampton's Brampton-approved --and-paid "investigator". It's been quite a "ride" watching Ontario municipalities twist themselves into pretzels in their attempt to avoid a legitimate, independent review. Yes, "avoid". That's exactly how the Town of Markham put it during a presentation at their October 2007 General Committee meeting. Please see: farm3 and the actual Markham presentation at: www.markham.ca

  • "All cannabis use is medical use?" Until the government steals our crops! Watch this move "the Union" for more insight. If Prop 19 was before me right now, I would vote for it. I don't like the taxation part of it, in that it would allow for excessive taxation. I believe you're right about leaving that door wide open. However, municipalities are already passing marijuana laws at a community level. Look at LA and San Diego, or Oakland for that matter. Prop 19 in my opinion was not making it easier for municipalities to do this. They do it anyway, with or without Prop 19. The best thing about Prop 19, is it was not the final chapter in the story. 2012 comes around, we revise the law via another Proposition. The second best thing that it did, was it created incentive for municipalities to compete for ganja business. In a true free market, that would play out to the advantage of all cannabis consumers. Not all municipalities would be dumb enough to force pot business out of their communities. And the ones who tried to do that (Like LA and San Diego are doing right now), will be begging for them to come back. Especially knowing that other communities would be getting revenue from these business. Free market definitely works. The competition would force municipalities to lower their licensing, or taxing codes in pricing, so that they had a healthy cannabis business. Same thing with vineyards and stuff, the history there is very similar. I also believe very strongly that all of the hysteria about how it would effect medical rights, was ...

Starting in the 1990s, the municipalities' police sections created Rapid Intervention detachments, to participate in operations that could pose a life-threatening risk to the officers involved in carrying them out. Detaşamentul de Intervenţii şi Acţiuni Speciale (DIAS, Special Actions and Interventions Detachment). DIAS groups were formed in all 41 municipalities, as well as in Bucharest. • Bornholm Island - Denmark Bornholm is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea located to the east of (most of) the rest of Denmark, the south of Sweden, and the north of Poland. The main industries on the island include fishing, arts and crafts like glass making and pottery using locally worked clay, and dairy farming. Tourism is important during the summer. The topography of the island consists of dramatic rock formations in the north, sloping down towards "pine and deciduous forests" (greatly damaged by storms in the 1950s) and farmland in the middle and sandy beaches in the south. It also refers to Bornholm Regional Municipality, the municipality (Danish: kommune) which covers the entire island. Bornholm was one of the three last Danish municipalities not belonging to a county— the others being Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. On 1 January 2007, the municipality lost its short-lived (2003 until 2006) county privileges and became part of Region Hovedstaden (ie the Copenhagen Capital Region). The small islands Ertholmene are located 18 km (11 mi) to the northeast of Bornholm. They do not belong to either a municipality or a region but are administered by the Ministry of Defence. Strategically located in the Baltic Sea, Bornholm has been a bone of contention usually ruled by Denmark, but also by Lübeck and Sweden. The castle ruin Hammershus, on the northwestern tip of the island, is the largest medieval fortress in northern Europe, testament to the importance of its location. ( source Wikipedia )

  • FCSS Family and Community Support Services Alberta Calgary Edmonton Government www.child.alberta.ca Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is an 80/20 funding partnership between the Government of Alberta, and municipalities or Metis Settlements. Provincially, the FCSS Program receives its mandate from the Family and Community Support Services Act and Regulation. The Regulation sets out the service requirements, that a municipality or Settlement must meet to be eligible for funding. At the local level, a municipality or Metis Settlement Council chooses whether to establish a Program, and enters into an agreement with the province to jointly fund the Program. Under FCSS, communities design and deliver social programs that are preventive in nature to promote and enhance well-being among individuals, families, and communities. The programs depend on community resources, often involving volunteers in management and delivery. The FCSS philosophy is based on a belief that self-help contributes to a sense of integrity, self-worth and independence. The programs developed are intended to help individuals in their community to adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby improving the quality of life and building the capacity to prevent and/or deal with crisis situations should they arise. • ALLOW THE ONTARIO OMBUDSMAN INTO MUNICIPALITIES! "Ontario remains the only province in Canada where citizens cannot turn to their Ombudsman if, for example, they have a problem with a hospital. The situation is similar for long-term care facilities, children's aid societies, school boards or police. My office hears complaints from thousands of people every year about these crucial publicly- funded services, but we are powerless to help them. The government could change this, but this past year, it expressly chose not to -- it repeatedly turned down legislative opportunities to remove these institutions from their zones of immunity. This is a downright embarrassing situation for Ontario. All is not well in the MUSH sector, yet Ontario is dead last of all provinces in providing independent oversight of these institutions. Millions of Ontarians are at the mercy of a special kind of Big Brother -- the hospitals, the long-term care facilities, the children's aid societies and the like are cleverly guised as "private entities" and deemed off-limits to proper checks and balances. Big Brother has his hand firmly planted in our back pocket -- government revenues his lifeline; unaccountability his refuge. Ontario is, shamefully, a "have-not" province in this regard." Ontario municipalities can be shameless bullies only too happy to ban you from their Corporate Property. Things could even go worse --arrest. A simple test that ...
