  • Intro - colligative properties, molarity vs molality, ionic cmpd effects molality - Part 1 This is Part 1 of a 2 part video. For the ending see part 1 of same title. Intro to colligative properties and compare molality to molarity to see the difference. Basic understanding of what colligative properties are and hold number of particles. Some molecules do not ionize and are called non-electrolytes. Molecules that are ionic, form 2 or more ions when placed in a solvent. For ionic compounds, the molality has to multiplied by the number of ions formed by the ionic molecules to calculate the total effect it has on the boiling and freezing points of the molal solution.

  • p. 881 #20 - Given g of solute and g of solvent - find fp & bp changes - Part 2 You are given grams of solute and grams of solvent. You must first calculate the molality of CuSO4 solution. Next you use the molality to find the fp and bp changes. fp goes down and bp goes up by specific amounts based on the molality of the solution. This is the most difficult type of Fp Bp based on molality problem type you will ever have. For the first half of this video see Part 1 of the same title.

  • p. 475 #35 - You find fp and bp of a 0.40 m solution of sucrose in ethanol - Part 2 p. 475 #35 - You find fp and bp of a 0.40 m solution of sucrose in ethanol. There are 2 parts to this video. This is part 2. Unfortunately Part 1 had the video sideways. This video continue that video and has picture vertical as it should be. This problem gives you 0.40 m solution of sucrose (non-electrolyte) in ethanol (solvent). You have to first calculate the ΔTf (change in freezing point) and ΔTb (the change in boiling point). To find the freezing point of the solution you subtract the ΔTf from the freezing point of the pure solvent (published in a table). To find the boiling point of the solution you add the ΔTb to the boiling point of the pure solvent (published in a table). (5.5 min video)
