  • Purgatory Explained by Greg Boyd This is a segment of a sermon called The RETURN given at Woodland Hills Church on 6/22/08 by Greg Boyd. Boyd gives a brief history of purgatory and explains how the concept of purgatory can fit in a Protestant's beliefs and how it is a disciplining of believers. This is a link to the sermon in its entirety... The context of the sermon is based on Luke 12:35-48 35 "Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. 39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." 41 Peter asked, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?" 42 The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he ...
  • Secret of the golden flower, a taoistic meditation Secret of the golden flower, a taoistic meditation brought to you by Jan Keppel Hesselink, MD, PhD, chair foundation IOCOB 1. HEAVENLY CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE HEART Master Lu Tzu said: That which exists through itself is called Meaning. (Tao). Meaning has neither name nor force. It is the one essence, the one primordial spirit. Essence and life cannot be seen. It is contained in the Light of Heaven. The light of Heaven cannot be seen. It is contained in the two eyes. Today I will be your guide and will first reveal to you the secret of the Golden Flower of the Great One, and, starting from that, I will explain the rest in detail. The Great One is the term given to that which has nothing above it. The secret of the magic of life consists in using action in order to achieve non-action. One must not wish to leave out the steps between and penetrate directly. The maxim handed down to us is to take in hand the work on the essence. In doing this it is important not to follow the wrong road. The Golden Flower is the Light. What color has the light? One uses the Golden Flower as an image. It is the true power of the transcendent Great One. The phrase, "The lead of the water-region has but one taste," refers to it. The work on the circulation of the Light depends entirely on the backward-flowing movement, so that the thoughts are gathered together (the place of Heavenly Consciousness, the Heavenly Heart). The Heavenly Heart lies between sun and moon (ie, the two eyes ...

To that place you must go; 6 there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. 7 There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the LORD your God has blessed you. 8 You are not to do as we do here today, everyone as he sees fit, 9 since you have not yet reached the resting place and the inheritance the LORD your God is giving you. 10 But you will cross the Jordan and settle in the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and he will give you rest from all your enemies ...

They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and ***ed justice. 4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead [a] us, such as all the other nations have." 6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. 7 And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do." 10 Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his ...

No money collections are kept by Gods true disciples, because all collected monies are for and given to the poor and needy, Acts 4:34,35, 5:1-11. The question still applies that Elisha asked Gehazi, Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? The answer obviously is No! But that deceptive spirit of Judas and Balaam which makes men love money has crept into todays churches and ministries to make them break a direct command from God take neither gold, nor silver, nor brass, nor scrip but Follow ME! • The King James Bible Whether the King James Version of the Bible is the inspired Word of God or not is a controversy that has raged in the ministry for many years. Although the only difference is literally one of translation, it has even on occasion come to pass that opposing views have been so fervently embraced that the Ministry of the word of God itself has suffered. We can easily understand when unbelievers stir up controversy and discontent, but not when it comes from within, from those who have been inspired by the word of God and want to come to know him in the splendor of his holiness. Regardless of one's position on the matter of the King James Bible, however, we would do well to remember that for a member of the body of Christ, charity and harmony should always prevail. So, in order to facilitate the study and to promote the better understanding of the Word, I would like to present you today with just some of the English translations of just one of the many verses of the Word of God: The Christian Bible. Todays scripture reading is Exodus 21:7. Each version, though imperfect in and of itself, can bring us closer to the intended meaning, closer to the truth, closer to the inspired Word of God. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. 6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring [a] I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east.
