The pathological study on the removed "brain" tissue concluded it was scarred and calcified gliotic tissue. So it was never a functional part of my brain. It hardly looks like real brain tissue.

  • Rachel and Patrick Strong tell their story on CBC News at Six in Windsor, ON Four weeks ago today we had our anatomy ultrasound and were so excited to "confirm" we were having a boy ... that's all we were thinking about. The thought that something may be wrong never crossed our minds. The appointment with our OB was right after the ultrasound and that's where I heard that our baby girl (yes girl, not boy) had hydrocephalus and that a meningocele (spina bifida) could not be ruled out. Our worst fears were confirmed the following Tuesday (5 days later). Our baby will born with spina bifida. Within days of getting the news we heard about a fetal surgery that would stop any further damage while the baby is still in the womb, improving the outcomes of motor & mental function and decreasing hydrocephalus. We are currently waiting for OHIP to let us know if they will cover the surgery (it would be done in Philadelphia because it is not currently available in Canada).
