Often we add voiceover or an on-camera instructor who explains each step of the process. The video illustrates how the reverse osmos (RO) system membrane elements, end caps, interconnectors, stub tubes, and o-rings fit together. For demonstration purposes, the membrane system was assembled outside their pressure vessels on cardbard sheets to demonstrate how all the components fit together inside the pressure vessels. Following this we filmed the removal of the old membrane elements and demonstrated how to properly install them in the RO system pressure vessels. Following this we energized the system took readings with a barcode scanner system to make sure there were no leaking o-rings. This video was made to assist operators in performing the infrequent procedure of membrane replacement whose details could easily be forgotten. This was an old Osmonics RO system that had been in service for over 20 years. The building it supported was to be demolished in the next few years so my client wanted to make sure it kept making high quality purified water. This required replacing the 4" diameter membrane elements every 18 months or so.

  • How to make a CPVC Membrane Pipe This video shows how to make a membrane pipe out of CPVC. The first I'd ever heard or seen of a membrane pipe was fenevadka's video of his membrane pipe on YouTube. So I set out to make my own out of some of the CPVC I already had around that I make pennywhistles out of. My first version worked somewhat, I had to hold the membrane tight by hand leaving only one hand to finger the notes. This video shows how I made my second membrane pipe, a much improved design. The pipework is all 3/4" and 1/2" CPVC pipe and 3/4" CPVC adaptors (T-joint, coupling, cap). I used 1/2" OD vinyl tubing for the mouthpiece, a piece of a Meijer grocery bag for the membrane, and some masking tape to create the bottom seal and to try to fix the pitch of some of the fingerholes. At the end of the video I demonstrate playing the pipe a little. The pipe creates a very clear, clean sound that reminds me of a clarinet or Scottish Small Pipes. The sound in the video sounds a little staticy but that is because the pipe is so loud that it clipped-out my camcorders microphone a little. I plan to make a "chanter" pipe specifically for this mouthpiece sometime that's actually in tune. When I do, I'll post a song. In the meantime, how would one make a pipe that's in-tune? First, let me say that I've not taken my own advice below on how to make an in-tune playable membrane pipe yet, but I have applied my suggestions below to making numerous home-made CPVC whistles in various keys over the years.   • FLARE - kinetic ambient reflection membrane FLARE is a pneumatic building facade system. The FLARE system consists of a number of tiltable metal flake bodies. An infinite array of flakes can be mounted on any building or wall surface in a modular system of multiplied 4x4 FLARE units. Each stainless steel flake reflects the bright sky or sunlight when in vertical standby position. When the flake is tilted downwards by a computer controlled pneumatic piston, its face is shaded from the sky light and this way appears as a dark pixel.
