  • #51 | Avery | duganA (IIPA) From Avery's website: Beer Style: Double India Pale Ale Hop Variety: Chinook, Centennial and Columbus Malt Variety: Two-row barley, dark aromatic, caramel malt OG: 1.076 ABV: 8.5% IBUs: 93 Color: Deep Gold Availability: Limited release. Inaugural batch was released in early October '09. Brewed whenever we have a little extra tank space and a desire for dank hops! Lupulin Rapture Incarnate! As fervent devotees of hops, we found ourselves on a quest to create a transcendental IPA capable of quenching our voracious lupulin desires. Our mantra became "unity of bitterness, hop flavor and aroma." Enlightened, duganA IPA was born: A brutally bitter, dank, piney and resinous ale designed for those seeking a divine hop experience. • Hops Cures Cancer and is identical to Cannabis !!! Pt 2 Hops have a long and proven history of herbal use, where they are employed mainly for their soothing, sedative, tonic and calming effect on the body and the mind. Their strongly bitter flavour largely accounts for their ability to strengthen and stimulate the digestion, increasing gastric and other secretions. The female fruiting body is anodyne, antiseptic, antispasmodic, diuretic, febrifuge, hypnotic, nervine, sedative, stomachic and tonic. Hops are widely used as a folk remedy to treat a wide range of complaints, including boils, bruises, calculus, cancer, cramps, cough, cystitis, debility, delirium, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, fever, fits, hysteria, inflammation, insomnia, jaundice, nerves, neuralgia, rheumatism, and worms. The hairs on the fruits contain lupulin, a sedative and hypnotic drug. When given to nursing mothers, lupulin increases the flow of milk - recent research has shown that it contains a related hormone that could account for this effect. The decoction from the flower is said to remedy swellings and hardness of the uterus. Hop flowers are much used as an infusion or can also be used to stuff pillows where the weight of the head will release the volatile oils. The fruit is also applied externally as a poultice to ulcers, boils, painful swellings etc, it is said to remedy painful tumours. The female flowering heads are harvested in the autumn and can be used fresh or dried. Alcoholic extracts of hops in various dosage forms have been used clinically in ...

  • Food Storage Yeast Cakes from Hops I finally succeeded like they did in the 1800's HOME MADE YEAST from (Bittersweet, Volume VI, No. 3, Spring 1979) by Patsy Watts, Photography by Mary Schmalstig The dry yeast cakes are made in part by boiling the blossoms of the hop vine. These flowers contain a fragrant yellowish oil called lupulin. The use of this oil as a preservative in beer and as a narcotic drug originated in Germany before Charlemagne. Since then its use has become wide spread and the vine cultivated in other nations, including America. The hop vine is related to the hemp and mulberry plants in the nettle family. The plant itself is twenty-five to thirty feet in length with rough lobed leaves and flowers that grow on catkin clusters. It is quite possible that many people in the Ozarks have never seen a hop vine, because although some Ozarkians have had limited success cultivating it, it grows best in sandy coastal regions. Ella Dunn, one of the few who has kept alive the tradition of making yeast. Yeast Cakes from Hops 1 cup mashed potatoes 1 cup potato water 1 cup flour 1 cup dried hops 2 Tbsp. sugar 4 cups corn meal (approx.) 1 dried yeast cake (optional) Boil 3 or 4 peeled potatoes in unsalted water. When done, drain the potatoes and mash them well, but save the potato water to use later. Cover the hop blossoms with water and bring to a boil. Drain off the water and save it, too. (Ella's mother dissolved a dried yeast cake left from her last batch into this water as a booster.) Put flour in a ...

  • Odell Brewing St Lupulin Extra Pale Ale We are not above admitting a mistake if one has been made. You never know when you first try a beverage if there was something wrong with either the drink itself or maybe the circumstances under which it was had. Whatever the case, it is always good to go back and try things again and that is what we are doing today. The St. Lupulin from Odell Brewing was a beer we tried almost two years ago at the recommendation of one of our listeners and contributors to the site, Eric Greene. At the time we were not fans of what we thought was a rather bland seasonal offering. Time has now past and at the behest of several listeners we are going to "Give It A Second Shot" and see if this ode to the resin found within the hop will change our minds.

  • Stone Ruination 10th Anniversary IPA Video Beer Review | San Diego Beer Vlog EP 312 Stone Ruination 10th Anniversary IPA, 10.8% ABV "Stone Ruination IPA, the first full-time brewed and bottled Double IPA on the planet, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this June. And what better way to celebrate a glorious decade of hoppy decadence than with even more hops? Beginning June 11th, Stone Brewing Co. will unleash the brand new, lupulin-loaded Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA. "We took the unapologetically hoppy Stone Ruination IPA—so named for its ruinous effect on the palate—and hopped it to high hell," explains Stone CEO & Co-Founder Greg Koch. "We actually amped up everything," continues Brewmaster Mitch Steele. "We added more malt to bring the abv up to 10.8%, and the amount of hops we used almost defies reason," he jokes. "Stone Ruination IPA already uses 2.5 pounds of hops per barrel, which is more than double the amount we use in any other core beer. For this anniversary version, we went double again, and used a most impressive 5 pounds of hops per barrel!"
  • hop cone microscopy SUBSCRIBE TO ME: READ THE TEXT!!!!!!!!! Got a new USB micro scope. This is a hop cone. This one is a bit green but close to harvest. Hops are used in making beer. The yellow crystals are lupulin and a little pollen and its what gives hops there "hoppy" flavor. Beer was invented/discovered/stumbled upon by the Sumarians around 4000-6000bce. Sumarians cities were getting established and this gave them extra incentive to settle down, grow some hops and grains and whatever else and start the party. They even invented the goddess NINKASI as the goddess of not only the beer but , from what I understand, the entire process from growing the grain & hops and whatever else to drinking. Kind of an early version of Bacchus from the greek times. aahhhh... Bacchus & NINKASI at the table with the FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER and about to devour him. but its ok FSM gives so that we may continue the party. and besides spaghetti is cheep.....and thats the way we like it. cheers&aloha "science is interesting..and if you dont agree you can *** off" Richard Dawkins thanx brother theo..where ever you are
